Disturbing Outcoached Explanation By Ali Marpet, Luke Goedeke
October 30th, 2023Joe’s not sure how this happens through a full game unless coaches aren’t picking up on it, or they don’t know how to adjust.
Former Bucs guard Ali Marpet is an analyst on the Buccaneers Radio Network and he talked high level offensive line play there tonight with Bucs right tackle Luke Goedeke.
Marpet, seemingly stunned by the Bills execution, mentioned to Goedeke that it appeared the Bills’ defenders successfully were timing the Bucs’ snaps all Thursday night as if they had a clear read on it. “It looked like they knew the cadence,” Marpet said.
Goedeke agreed and speculated the Bills had scouted the Bucs to the point they knew exactly what was coming.
“We had like a tell or something, like watching the film, just literally like a split-second before the ball is even snap they were starting their rush,” Goedeke said. “And you can’t catch that with a naked eye unless you really slow it down on film.”
Goedeke went on to say he talked about it after the game with fellow tackle Tristan Wirfs and the two remarked how they never experienced that previously. “It felt we were so behind,” Goedeke said.
Marpet talked about how offenses should have the advantage with cadence, and the offense needs ways to be savvy and sneaky enough to throw off defenses if they’re catching on.
Joe has to wonder where the offensive staff and the veteran quarterback were to tweak the cadence and thwart the Bills’ advantage — at least by the start of the third quarter. Surely Todd Bowles recognized what was happening on the sidelines if Marpet could see it on television.
Man, it’s hard enough to win in the NFL without a defense knowing your cadence.
Joe hopes playcaller Dave Canales learned a valuable lesson.

This is almost as bad as dressing Vaughn over Tucker

When you snap the ball with less than a second left on the play clock over and over – even late in the 4th down 2 scores, its probably pretty easy to guess the snap.

Sounds like the Bills stole a page out of Bill Belicheats handbook!

Dave Canales????? I thought it was your beloved mayfield who calls the cadence
October 30th, 2023 at 9:13 pm
We had better put a solid game together this weekend on both sides of the ball, or the pitchforks will come out.
Look sloppy with no offense, and I personally will be hoping for massive change next year. All new coaches and a new QB.
Faith is still alive, but fading.
October 30th, 2023 at 9:15 pm
So same situation as last year. Per our coaches, we can’t perform a hurry up offense or properly play zone defense because the system is too complicated the players are still learning the scheme … yet our playbook is so predictable, the opposing teams know what’s coming.
October 30th, 2023 at 9:27 pm
Gee, I think I’ve been saying this in one way or another since last season.
Most predictable team in the league.
And I blame coaching.
We are going to have a hard time stacking up many wins until the coaching staff, and Bowles especially, learn how to adapt.
October 30th, 2023 at 9:31 pm
I’ve been a Bucs fan my entire life. I really enjoyed the 2 years we dominated and think if it weren’t for Bowles calling that blitz we would have won another championship in 21, I also believe it’s his fault we haven’t been winning these last two seasons because he is stubborn as hell and try’s to shove square pegs into round holes. He should have been fired last season. I have been so disappointed and was also fooled by our 3-1 start. I do think that we will only win one more game.
October 30th, 2023 at 9:33 pm
I agree it seemed like all night the play calls were coming in late. It’s pretty easy to get a jump when you’re constantly snapping the ball with only one second left on the play clock. There may be some kind of tell in how someone is lining up or how they are positioned pre-snap which is giving teams a read on wether it’s going to be run or pass.
October 30th, 2023 at 9:35 pm
Hey, lay off the coaches, and the Oline, and the QB, and the D and the mascot, and the cheerleaders. We are wining the turnover battle and everything is rosy
Beat the Texans and prove that we know what we’re doing. Lose 5 of 6 and…
October 30th, 2023 at 9:50 pm
One thing I’ve noticed & I’m not certain how big of a deal it is, but Canales never covers his mouth when calling the offensive plays in. If I was another team I would have a lip reader at every game relaying the play call to the defense. It’s irritated me all season.
October 30th, 2023 at 10:07 pm
The is extremely frustrating. The NFL got Dave figured out 3 weeks ago. Kinda hard to make adjustments when you dont know where to start.
October 30th, 2023 at 10:09 pm
Shane it has pained me also and I posted about it weeks ago.If possible, could one of the joes mention our concerns?
October 30th, 2023 at 10:13 pm
Joe has to wonder where the offensive staff and the veteran quarterback were to tweak the cadence and thwart the Bills’ advantage”
The answer to that might in fact be easy
The same reason why the coach said they can’t play up tempo – because when you change it up the Line penalties sky rocket. Personally I’d prefer to read the riot act and threaten benchings rather than take strategies off the table but that was the answer.
October 30th, 2023 at 10:16 pm
‘Surely Todd Bowles recognized what was happening’
Why people think this clown has a clue about anything is a mystery because he has SO many games as a LOSING HC that confirms that he absolutely does NOT!
Going forward that needs to be better disguised or the offense will always be fighting an up hill battle and the opponents will constantly be in the back field blowing up the play…
October 30th, 2023 at 10:25 pm
Line sucks on the interior, inept OC, bad running backs, and a journeyman quarterback who will never improve.
October 30th, 2023 at 10:30 pm
10 false starts in 2 games….if you can’t get lined up there’s no way you can win.
October 30th, 2023 at 10:37 pm
Yet casuals defend this coaching staff
October 30th, 2023 at 10:55 pm
This is the product Licht, Bowles and company dish out week after week and we expect a different result?! Nothing will change until we get a new GM, HC and players more like Winfield and less like D. White. Bring in Harbaugh.
October 30th, 2023 at 10:59 pm
Todd Bowles doesn’t have a chance with the bucs if he doesn’t give Kyle Trask a shot. The talent on offense is just as good as any. He’s a defensive coach but his secondary is TRASH. Those guys are not NFL corners. Antonie Winfield is all we have back there. Atleast try to out score the opponent. Trask will throw the ball down the field. Baker Mayfield, is definitely not qualified to be a NFL starter. He can have a seat with Johnny Manzeil.
October 30th, 2023 at 11:02 pm
Todd Bowles said on a short week there’s not much time for game planning and studying film, so how did Buffalo have time to study film?
October 30th, 2023 at 11:03 pm
Ahh coach radio n his incompetent staff
October 30th, 2023 at 11:14 pm
Add a cadence from another team each week . I particularly liked Dak Prescott
when he says” okay, here we go now” before the snap.
October 30th, 2023 at 11:37 pm
Pete Carrol may Catch IT but Good Ole the NFL owes me T Bowles perhaps may not !! ………. And BTW Rocket Scientists the offenses have been doing the same since game 3 and the Bucs have their same defensive set timing and the offense is snapping before they are set or properly aligned several times a game …….. we call it the Mexican Border “ D ”
October 31st, 2023 at 12:12 am
The Bills knew the snap-count better than the Bucs did. Judging from the penalties.
October 31st, 2023 at 12:21 am
To be fair to Canales, this is his rookie year as OC. With Bowles likely being replaced next year, and him having no chance of success with Mayfield, I kind of feel for him.
As to the timing thing…a veteran quarterback is supposed to be able to take command. If plays are not called in quick enough, Baker could have called the plays himself.
They were not going to bench him for it, and all he had to do is explain he needs plays called faster. They would have made the adjustment for him.
That’s if everyone is making the right assumption that the delay is playcalling.
I have another theory: Play Comprehension may be the problem.
Maybe the plays are being called in, but it is taking Mayfield too long to comprehend them. We already know he takes too long to pass, even on checkdowns.

“Marpet talked about how offenses should have the advantage with cadence, and the offense needs ways to be savvy and sneaky enough to throw off defenses if they’re catching on.”
I think it may have been going on longer than that. I noticed the possibility in the Lions game.
Sometimes players have tells. Good scouting will see them. I think we had a RB years ago who had a tell and it did not take long for opponents to find it.
This has been a thing in football since back in the day when I played. There are things O linemen can do to screw with the defensive guys across from them though. It’s kinda like… Okay we know you know but you don’t know that we know, and we are gonna do this right here to fool you. A well oiled O line can pull this off with ease. It actually turns the disadvantage into an advantage.
A top notch QB will change his cadence at times during a game. But the O line has to be in the loop and it has to be practiced. I question if our O line can pull the cadence thing off right now.
Either way this is a real problem that needs to be addressed by players and coaches.
Go Bucs!
October 31st, 2023 at 5:24 am
When you pick the 5th option because he is the only one that will cowtail to the HC wishes of running a 1983 offense in 2023 – you get Dave Canales as the OC
Todd’s OC’s that have all been fired after 1 season
Chan Gailey
John Morton
Jeremy Bates
Byron Leftnut
Dave????
Todd won’t fire him, the entire staff is gone in about 4 more weeks

Ummm I might be wrong but kinda bad look by Luke G to have excuses after 3 false start penalties that were killers; 2 of them negated 1st downs
October 31st, 2023 at 6:31 am
This organization is who we thought they were before the season. A train wreck.
October 31st, 2023 at 6:53 am
2nd rate coaching staff since BA quit or got run off especially on offense
October 31st, 2023 at 7:02 am
This is turning into the biggest clown show ever. Every single coach should get a pink slip TODAY when they get to the building.
This is unreal

October 31st, 2023 at 8:11 am
Snort! It wouldn’t surprise me one bit if a little (?) homer cheating was going down. However, Bucs are going to see it in Houston so the coaches and players better get prepared.
October 31st, 2023 at 8:18 am
Ali Marpet is class personified. It’s hard enough to win a game in the NFL, but to insinuate that the opponent has an advantage (like knowing the snap cadence) is beyond belief. Most high school teams have solved this problem by day two of pre season football. So, I am going to file this accusation under Ripley’s Believe It or Not. I don’t believe that Baker Mayfield and coaches are that ill prepared to compete each game. It just doesn’t make any sense. Keeping it real.
October 31st, 2023 at 8:22 am
I still think Todd Bowles is telling Dave Canales what plays to call on offense and NOT letting Canales call the plays HE wants. Bowles sucked as HC with the Jets and we all know he sucks as HC for our beloved Bucs. He needs to stick to DC and NOT HC.
October 31st, 2023 at 8:25 am
I guess #67 decided to do something about the Bills timing the snaps by starting earlier than them, and the rest of the offense, brilliant!!
October 31st, 2023 at 8:29 am
And one more thing…Bowles doesn’t have the ability to get our team fired up…we’ve all heard his press conference’s, the guy has no fire in his belly
October 31st, 2023 at 8:34 am
THIS IS A REALLY SOLID TAKE ON OUR COACHING …
Begs the question, Who is the offense most complex for?

The Bucs offense is a huge letdown. My faith and support in Baker Mayfield is taking a beating. David Canales doesn’t seem to be adjusting the schemes and appears to be playing extremely conservative football. This tells me that Todd Bowles hands are all over the offensive schemes. At this point, I only watch hoping that the Bucs tank enough that ownership gives Bowles his walking papers. He doesn’t deserve to be HC at One Buc Place and definitely didn’t earn it. Good riddance I say. On to 2024.
October 31st, 2023 at 11:41 am
Seems like maybe he should have said something to the coaches and/or Mayfield instead of just Wirfs.
October 31st, 2023 at 1:23 pm
Right after the left guard signals the center they snap it…why is this so difficult?
October 31st, 2023 at 3:43 pm
Which Buc is selling insider info?
October 31st, 2023 at 6:37 pm
What I found really disturbing is on drive home 620 a.m show, our O-line men, with Marpet even commenting on how Buffalo timed our snap count all game and had them on their heels whole night!!! How in the world does somebody, linemen, O.C, Baker not mention it then and go on hard count, or on 3 instead of one etc to draw them offsides!!?? Hearing that was alarming at best
October 31st, 2023 at 6:38 pm
I just mentioned this in earlier post!
