Breakout Game For Rachaad White

October 27th, 2023

Yeah, the Bucs still have a pathetic rushing attack through seven games, but at least something good happened tonight.

Running back Rachaad White had his best game of the season, 9 carries for 39 yards, including his longest scamper of the season for 15 yards! (White also had a longer run called back because of a Trey Palmer hold that may or may not have affected the play’s outcome.)

That’s progress!

Joe can only hope the Bucs’ 24-year-old RB1 gained confidence from his performance. Yeah, it was rather mid in the world of the NFL, but it was special considering how putrid White has been for much of his career.

Joe will take positives anywhere they can be found.

As for the other Bucs running backs, Chase Edmonds and Ke’Shawn Vaughn combined for 6 yards on 4 carries tonight. Kudos to Chris Godwin for his 14-yard run on his lone carry in the first quarter.

White also had a special night out of the backfield in the passing game. He caught all seven of his targets for 70 yards.

Rachaad White would be an excellent 3rd down back…….he has great hands and moves very well in space..
It’s unfortunate that long run was called back….it must have been 30 yards….he had another one called back last week.

  2. Couch Fan Says:

I certainly wouldn’t call it a breakout game. But it is progress.

  3. Bucs13 Says:

The Bills have the worse run defense in the league. It means nothing.

  4. Jack Clark Says:

Wow! It’s amazing how much better Rachaad White does when he’s not getting hit before he can even cross the line of scrimmage. We might not need a new running back after all

  5. Pasadena Buc Fan since ‘97 Says:

Fire Bowles Canales and trade whomever Licht.

    Or sit whomever.

NFC south is garbage so I get it. Everyone still hanging.

But we really just shooting for one and done playoffs?

  6. unbelievable Says:

Every long run of his has been called back for holding this entire season.

    Just like Lenny last year.

And just like RoJo in 2020 and 2021 (except for his 98 yard touchdown run).

It’s almost like… Bucs offensive players absolutely suck at run blocking?!? Imagine that! Mike Evans is honesty the only guy on offense who knows how to throw a damn block. But he doesn’t even block much at his age anymore.

  7. Mike S Says:

Deebo Samuel might be a comp.

They need to draft a stud RB next season and use White in a similar back/slot tweener role.

  8. Sly Pirate Says:

All season we’ve been screaming for a scream. What do you know? They work! It’s actually a staple of the Seattle offense. Not sure why Canales forgot about this play.

  9. Phred Says:

We are praising a running back for gaining 39 yards in a game?

Bucs are not competitive this year. At best, they’re a .500 team. There’s no getting better this season.

“There aren’t many secrets in coaching. Well, there’s one secret: Get a guy like Warrick Dunn, throw him a screen pass and watch him run 52 yards with it. ”

^^^ this guy knows what’s up.

  12. Big Wally Says:

More like a breakout game for the dump off pass. Baker gives up on his primary target way to quick.

  13. rrsrq Says:

I think that’s Charles Sims out there. But we he gets the ball out of the backfield, he still lacks vision and will run to the “hole” where the play is called, even if the “hole” isn’t there. He also seeks contact instead of open field

I’ve said multiple times now that R. White is a legitimate 3rd down back in the NFL. If they really want to use him effectively, they need to run more screens with him and/or get him into space to make a play. They guy can catch the ball, but he is not an every down RB. Based on last nights use of White, I think Canales is starting to understand his strengths. Its improvement, but not the solution to cure the offenses woes.

against a team that is not good against the run though…

  16. Fred McNeil Says:

I realize the Bills aren’t good against the run. Rather than belittle a decent performance against it by White be glad.

  17. ScottyMack Says:

Bills are in the middle of the pack against the run – #16 I seem to remember reading before the game. In other words, hardly the worst in the league.

  18. Bucs Guy Says:

    Richard White = Charles Simms

    Rachaad

I’ve bin beating this drum all season. Dude has moves and hands. When he’s in space he’s hard to bring down and he looks for contact. He’s a weapon but just not at RB. Use his strengths but he’s still no ME13 or CG14 get our star players the ball. Make it happen. Also find a RB with good vision who can see the hole if there is one. White is a stud when catching the ball
