Second-Lowest Scoring Team In The NFC
October 23rd, 2023In only the first eight games of the miserable 2013 Bucs season, Tampa Bay changed quarterbacks (veteran with mental issues to a rookie third-round pick), lost its top running back to injury, and had only had one legitimate receiver to complement an undrafted rookie tight end.
No wonder the Bucs went 0-8! But they averaged in those eight games only 1 1/2 points less per game than the current Bucs.
By comparison, this season’s edition of the Tampa Bay offense is loaded with talent. There is no excuse for how badly the Bucs offense is performing through six games.
Hell, the 2012 Bucs had a first-time playcaller (Mike Sullivan) and lit up the scoreboard quite impressively in the first half of that season.
Yeah, yeah, Joe knows that Bucs team had a dynamic rookie running back.
Currently, the Bucs rank second worst in the NFC in points per game at just a shade over 17. Only the Giants are worse and their backup QB has started two games — and their RB1 has missed four games.
What’s the Bucs excuse?
Joe is eager to see Bucs offensive coordinator Dave Canales adjust now that his back is completely against the wall. Jobs are on the line.
Mike Evans is on pace for 1,326 yards and 11 touchdowns. Chris Godwin is sailing toward a 1,127-yard season. Canales may want to rely more on those guys because the Bucs’ sorry running game may not be salvagable without a new running back.
If Canales can adjust his way out of this funk, Joe will be highly impressed. However, it does feel like NFL defensive coordinators either have caught up with Canales or are closing in hard.

This is squarely on Bowels. It’s his decision to run the damn ball with a bad OL this year and last year. Outside of Wirfs this O-Line is awful…hell Jim Brown couldn’t gain 3 yards with this lot. Zero imagination on Offence will result in major overhaul in the offseason.
October 23rd, 2023 at 1:13 am
Canales gets some slack being 1st time play caller…
Bowels is failing to have his team coached up and ready to play 60 minutes!…
He is NOT fit to be a HC at any level!
October 23rd, 2023 at 1:13 am
Yes Bucs have a rookie OC but he is coaching an experienced qb with no upsides. We can’t really judge this OC with Baker playing below the average when he is missing wide open receivers and throwing picks more than Td’s in the last few games.
October 23rd, 2023 at 1:18 am
The last drive of the game he called three pass plays killing the clock allowing Falcons to escape with two time outs left in the game to kick a winning FG. They could have run the ball and forced Falcons to use their time outs before Bucs kick the FG.

No TEs, no RBs, no 3rd/4th WRs, no interior line, probably no QB is not “loaded with talent”
October 23rd, 2023 at 3:18 am
We gotta let Baker bake not cook.
Go Bucs!
October 23rd, 2023 at 3:39 am
baker is no longer cookin’ in the pot
October 23rd, 2023 at 3:45 am
we did kinda steal a win 20-15 last year at home vs atlanta…
maybe karma can be a b!tch…
i dunno…the offense is looking really really bad right about now…
and they’ve got 3-4 days to figure it out…
i hope there’s a quick fix in bowles’ back pocket

Bucs offense is loaded with talent? Please Joe, show us where? Outside of Evans, Godwin, who you got on offense with talent? White, ha, ha, Otton, lol, lil Baker? Our interior O line? sneak Vaughn? Where’s this talent Joe?
October 23rd, 2023 at 5:17 am
the offense is not stacked in talent….and our receiver duo is seemingly not as top tier as they were a couple years back with brady

Is Trask the luckiest guy ever?
Not named the starter was a blessing in disguise. His career would be toast if he was the starting QB of this team. He outplayed Baker in preseason. It could have happened. He dodged a bullet.

Canales is not coaching high school football this is the nfl either he is getting coaching tips from leftwhich or he is way over his head. How many penalties can kill these drives-had some good plays called back had a very good week of practice sick of that line.
October 23rd, 2023 at 6:40 am
All Canales has to work with are Wirfs, Evans, Godwin, and……uh….well….uh….um…hmmmmmm?
October 23rd, 2023 at 6:47 am
The O-line gets pushed around and the RBs don’t seem to be able to make anything happen on their own. False start penalties (at home!) and holding calls turn 2nd-and-4 into 2nd-and-19. And when the defense needs to batten down, they give up a huge game-losing play. 19 points at home in the last two games. With the way NFL rules favor offenses, that’s ridiculously bad. It’s a shame we fans have to watch this dreck. The Brady years were an oasis in the desert of the Lost Decade.

“There is no excuse for how badly the Bucs offense is performing through six games.”
Yes there is, it’s just not visible to members of the Cult of Mayfield.

Interesting perspective. No question that if Trask was named the starter and he performed as poorly as Mayfield, the Cult of Mayfield – led by Joe – would be calling not just for Mayfield to start, but for Trask to be RELEASED!

The lowest is ATLANTA!!!
October 23rd, 2023 at 8:30 am
Just two weeks ago Joe was worried that Canales would be gone at the end of the year with a head coaching job .
October 23rd, 2023 at 8:37 am
Should we leave Mayfield in as the starter to get a high draft pick for our next head coach. That is the biggest decision the organization should have right now.
October 23rd, 2023 at 8:45 am
Canales has the reciever run out then stop and turn back for the catch…Mayfield has problems hitting a running receiver it appears. He can hit a stationary target but not a moving target.

Where are the screens?

I can’t believe there is someone worse than us that’s just sad. Today’

The run plays are blown up before they even get started. Seems like play design more than o-line or RB issues.
October 23rd, 2023 at 9:42 am
“Can do” Canales can replace Billy Bob Thorton’s “Carl” in Slingblade 2.
October 23rd, 2023 at 9:45 am
Absolute train wreck already, just as everyone in country knew was going to happen
The Todd and Baker show – even more painful than watching Bowles neuter Brady
October 23rd, 2023 at 10:24 am
One story obviously wasn’t enough … Baker needs to read more stories here about him making the Pro Bowl.
October 23rd, 2023 at 11:20 am
17 PPG in today’s NFL is atrocious.
October 23rd, 2023 at 11:39 am
We ate dead last in rushing. Again. Hard to score when you are so one dimensional and not even leaning on your strengths of being able to pass to your star receivers
October 23rd, 2023 at 11:43 am
At this point, I’d rather live or die on Mayfield’s arm than on White’s legs.

I just don’t know why the Glaziers have not called so many of our posters for job interviews for HC and OC. From the comments on here, so many have it all figured out. HAHAHA

This is a complete mess of an offense. No identity, no razzle-dazzle, no big plays other than Evan’s TD yesterday. It is so boring to be a fan of the Bucs right now.
Watching the games, its inevitable that most of us know what is going to happen. We know there will be drive killing illegal formations, false starts and holding calls that put them in difficult play calls.
We know that just because our defense stops a couple of plays, as soon as its 3rd down, there is no pressure on the QB and they find someone downfield and get a first down and play keep-away from the Bucs offense.
We know that Devin White gets blocked out of plays and isn’t a hungry player.
We know that Dean and Davis don’t make game changing plays.
The worst thing we know is that White can’t gain more than a yard or 2 and that Devin Thompkins is too short and light to be a wide receiver.
These games are reruns of Dungy ball without 3 Hall of Famers to bail out an impotent offense.
October 23rd, 2023 at 4:01 pm
To get beat by a team that is really no good is unforgiveable. The falcons will probably end up Firing their HC. We probably will too. Ridder had all day yesterday. And The defense was completely absent in the 1st half. No pass rush at all. We need to seriously check our O line. They are getting smash mouthed up front. They are weal with the exception of Wirfs.

“ Canales has the reciever run out then stop and turn back for the catch…Mayfield has problems hitting a running receiver it appears. He can hit a stationary target but not a moving target.”
I recall Mayfield hitting Evans in stride for a 40 yd TD bomb just yesterday.

Let’s reserve judgment until later in the season. Last year the Lions started out terrible and then in the second half of the season they turned into one of the best teams in the NFL. In the second half of last season. Their coach was on the hot seat. People questioned why they traded for Goff. Now they look smart for keeping their team together.
