Robert Hainsey Explains How To Improve Run Game
October 22nd, 2023The Bucs’ run game stinks. Has since last year when it was dead last in the league. It’s even worse now.
So Joe caught up with Bucs center Robert Hainsey last week. Joe asked what’s it going to take for the run game to spring loose.
Hainsey said there’s no secret sauce or special voodoo curse. The answer, he believes, is good old-fashioned blood, sweat and toil.
Work until it works, Hainsey basically said.
“Honestly, my answer is never going to change,” Hainsey said. “It’s going to stay technique and fundamentals.
“It’s all of us to prove it together, trust in each other to do our jobs. Trust our coaches to call the plays. Trust the scheme that is in place and constantly working to improve and win one-on-one matchups.
“That’s all it is going to be.”
Hainsey said while folks outside of One Buc Palace may be freaking out, he and his fellow offensive linemen are not.
Joe mentioned to Hainsey how Bucs coach Todd Bowles said it was a matter of time.
“He’s right,” Hainsey said. “We are not worried about it. We are going to keep improving, improving and improving.”
Let’s hope the Bucs can win today because of or in spite of the league’s worst rushing attack.

Oh so maybe the oline has some role to play in the ineptitude of the putrid run game? Whah??

“We are not worried about it. We are going to keep improving, improving and improving.”
The trouble is,your not

It’s like the dawn of man stuff. Has Kubrick risen?

I know how, grow a pair and add muscle and stop sucking.

The Budweiser beer wagons were huge, heavy wagons and it took a team of 8 Clydesdales to pull them.
Bucs need to think bigger. We’re 3 Clydesdales short.

It’s time to draft true guards and centers. It’s not sexy but necessary. I would go Center in 2nd Rd and guard in 4th with RB or safety in 3rd. For me it’s best player Available in the 1st Rd every year. Sorry it’s way too early to talk draft strategy lol.

I believe Haisey is correct. I hope it all comes together sooner than later though.
Because it is gonna cost us some wins if it does not.
Go Bucs!

Sometimes it’s not the work…..but it’s the worker. I simply don’t believe we have the talent necessary to get the job done.
October 22nd, 2023 at 6:56 am
That’s an answer you give when you really don’t have an answer as to why the run game stinks.

76 – agree. But, if there was a Landon Dickerson or a Quentin Nelson type at 19 then that’s a first round pick to me. And while I would never confuse anyone playing today with the 2007 Patriots I do love how San Fran, Philly, Detroit is built. Inside/out, big and nasty in the trenches. Further – Ian Beckles may be right about our receivers. Evans and Godwin were the best combo in 2018/2019, not so much now. Offense has been a big problem for a few yrs, and it’s not just the coordinator and qb. Guys simply aren’t getting open. Of course, a semblance of a running game would help too. I guess the point is, we need another blue chipper in the receiving room with number 1 potential, a LaPorta type at TE. We aren’t near as talented as some people think we are. Still need to get faster and more dynamic. A Bijan Robinson type on THIS team at RB would make all the difference in the world too.

Hainsey is the weak link on the oline. I know he has experience but putting someone else in, might improve the run game. It can’t get any worse.
October 22nd, 2023 at 7:49 am
“Techniques and fundamentals.” That’s it? Oh. Okay.
The technique of getting pushed backwards into the backfield is not good.
October 22nd, 2023 at 8:17 am
Every running play there’s 7 or 8 guys that need to get blocked. ANY of them NOT blocked, running play likely gets stuffed. It’s mostly just that, rinse and repeat
October 22nd, 2023 at 8:24 am
Did coach really say we’re not worried about it? This is the guy so many people are confident about.
Easiest way to improve the run game is to find a better center. Didn’t he get drafted as a guard?
October 22nd, 2023 at 8:32 am
First RB needs to run where he is supposed to.
October 22nd, 2023 at 8:33 am
Eyeballs say Hainsey gets no push.
If his technique is almost perfect but he gets manhandled on 1/3 of the plays, what does it matter.

Lol…

In other words, more sorry as run blocking today 🥱 we won’t see any improvement until we either replace our offensive linemen or our coaches

Van Pran , Powers -Johnson, Zinter, or Beebe.

Whether you believe it is the Oline or the RB’s that are the cause of the ineptitude of our running game, Jason Licht is directly responsible for both position groups and their talent or lack thereof.
October 22nd, 2023 at 9:10 am
Well if you can find a running back that can see the hole and go through it then maybe. If not they will continue to bounce off of offensive linemens asses with no progress. It also seems like the running backs are afraid to get hit.
October 22nd, 2023 at 9:14 am
Hainsey isn’t bad on pass protection, but awful at run blocking. I don’t think his skillset is subpar but he just doesn’t have the power, quick feet or the nastiness as Jensen.
October 22nd, 2023 at 9:19 am
@Tampabayfan – so Jason is responsible for Marpet retiring in his prime and Jensen suffering a career ending knee injury? Got it.
October 22nd, 2023 at 9:30 am
Great GM’s NEVER reach for excuses-they find solutions.
October 22nd, 2023 at 9:46 am
Whatever the O line is doing to improve it’s not working. I just don’t think this Oline has the strength, toughness or smarts to run block. They just don’t seem capable of sealing off the defense and opening holes. They simply miss blocks and let defenders run around them and there are always 5 defenders in the backfield on top of the RB at the handoff. We may need better RBs? But we sure as hell need a better O line.
October 22nd, 2023 at 10:02 am
Why the hell do you get rid of playoff Lenny who could receive and block better than any back in the league?
October 22nd, 2023 at 10:43 am
Hainsey’s problem is he’s not naturally big.
You need naturally big for a mauling running game.
October 22nd, 2023 at 11:05 am
Have Camarda come in and play guard. Lol
October 22nd, 2023 at 11:26 am
Hainsey and White had these same problems last year, but its the new OC and line’s fault. Ok.
October 22nd, 2023 at 11:27 am
Cool. “Fundamentals, technique.” So in other words you’re not changing anything and expect different results. You’ve had HS, college and years in the NFL to nail down the fundamentals, but just another couple weeks of doing the same thing will turn it all around, eh?
The biggest and most immediate way to improve this running game is to replace Hainsey. I honestly believe that.
October 22nd, 2023 at 11:29 am
Best way to improve the run game is make them defend the passing game. I don’t see that happening and we have two #1 receivers. So where’s the problem????
October 22nd, 2023 at 11:39 am
Replace him and get a real Center. Mr Birdlegs doesn’t have the lower body to move a 3rd grader
October 22nd, 2023 at 11:40 am
Paying off the Trophy – don’t have the $ for a good free agent center, and there aren’t any on the street. Draft OLine and build for a sustained future. See Loins, Niners, Eagles. That is Bowels vision, just don’t have the horses yet.
With that said – let’s kick some azz today!

When JC Tretter of the Browns was forced out of football unjustly , JC was rated the 6th best Center in the NFL. Licht could have signed him for league minimum when Jensen went down , but did he????????????
