Anthony Nelson, Vita Vea Questionable For Dixie Chicks Game

October 20th, 2023

Sort of a weird official injury report.

Despite fully participating in each practice this week, reserve OLB Anthony Nelson is listed as questionable for Sunday’s game with the Dixie Chicks. Nelson is trying to bounce back from a concussion.

Stud defensive tackle Vita Vea is also questionable with a bum foot. Bucs coach Todd Bowles said Vea’s foot was sore this week sort of out of the blue, not from a game or practice injury.

Meanwhile, the Dixie Chicks are at full strength with no player on their injury report.

Bowles said there was no injury that Vea was sore and we will see if he is “full tilt” on Sunday. That sounds like zero chance he will not go, just might have a snap count

  2. Lombardi Lenny Says:

Vita is not gonna play. He’s lazy

Dude needs better conditioning. Takes way to many snaps off each game and gets injured every year.

We pay this guy a boatload and he should be in better shape. period.

  3. BucU Says:

How the F is nobody on the Falcons injury report? That’s unheard of.

    ____________

    Early onset adult diabetes?

  5. Marine Buc Says:

    Yikes – a 360 lb D-lineman with a bum foot?

    Not good.

A player taking multiple weeks to recover from a concussion?

    Not good.

At least the injury list isn’t very long… We really need Vea to play on Sunday – Atlanta’s run game is pretty solid.

    ^^^^^

Just because someone says something on the Internet doesn’t mean it’s true. Last year Joe wrote several articles on Vea’s snap count. You are regurgitating those ideas a year late. Dose of reality.

    Snap Count by DL/OLB
    1. Hall 63%
    2. JTS 61%
    3. Vea 61%

Also, Vea’s “lazy ass” ranks first on the team in sacks and second in TFL.

  7. Bojim Says:

    Great.

  8. Lt. Dan Says:

Love Vita but this was expected..the annual lower body injury. Like clock work.

  9. Rod Munch Says:

Also it’s worth noting Vita is much more likely around 380. I mean 350 was his peak, pro-day, best shape in his life weight. I still wish the team would sit down with him and tell him to get down to around 330. There’s no way you can convince me that he’d suddenly not be an elite run stuffer at a Suh sized 330. Plus he’d be an even better pass rusher.

As he gets older, it’s going to be more and more difficult to stay healthy at that weight.

With that said, he’s playing as well as he’s ever played right now, and the Bucs need him out there, so hopefully he’s ready to go.

  10. D-Rok Says:

^^^So let’s split the difference, Rod, and get Vea down to a svelte 340. I mean, it’s HARD to lose weight, AND be in game shape.

  11. kaimaru69 Says:

    @DoooshLaRue

Could be. Might need to pull back on the sweets

  12. TheBucsAnthem Says:

Geez……it seems as if Vita is hurt for almost half the amount of games every season…… I guess all 300+ pounds of him doesn’t scare himself at all.

As if there was barely any pass rush with Vita in……now there will be ZERO pass rush with him out of the lineup.

  13. Knucknbuc Says:

Hey vita sum jag off on joebucs fan says your lazy!!! And also early onset diabetes. Smh why can’t vita be more like dooshlarue and Lombardi Lenny I’m sure they’re the gold standard of physical fitness (rolls eyes)

  14. Jeff Says:

The Falcons will easily run for over 200 yards. This is going to be a very disappointing game for Yucs fans.

  15. TonySoprano Says:

Gotta admit, I’m a little disappointed Vea’s body composition seems to be going in the opposite direction I was hoping over the course of his career. Was hoping he’d become leaner and faster, but seems like he’s only put on more weight over the years, potentially causing more injuries and fatigue.

Then considering Hainsey, JTS and Hall have all failed to add the requisite strength over the last couple years, I do question the effectiveness of our strength and conditioning staff.

  16. Mike Johnson Says:

I’ve always said Vita was a little to heavy losing 30 to 50 pds will not hurt him if he is in shape. The older he gets with all that weight, the more injuries are gonna hit him.

    __________

The question mark at the end of my statement means…….. ready for this?
    It was a question.
Foot problems are an early indicator of diabetes along with being overweight.

    Gout – too much protein.

  19. Cobraboy Says:

I remember Vinny Testaverde suddenly having a hurt foot, and it was because he dropped something on it in the shower.

He prolly didn’t know what color it was.

  20. Rod Munch Says:

340 would be fine, if he’s around the 380 I assume he’s at.

In any case, again, it’s worth remembering he’s having his best year right now. I want him to lose weight so he can play more downs – because I think he’s an excellent player and I want him on the field more.

It’s also worth noting, and something I forgot, Sapp had his best season when he was at his heaviest, 330lb. It’s pretty remarkable. He did say after that year he dropped down to under 300lb because he felt so slow and heavy at 330lb, yet he somehow got 16.5 sacks and was the defensive MVP. Sapp was really plagued by injuries after that year, when he lost weight, so just throwing that out there. I’ve read quotes from Sapp about now liking being heavy, but I’ve never heard him talk about at length, would be interesting to hear what he has to say. Sapp has always thought Vita would have issues staying healthy playing in Florida at 350lb, and he needed to drop some weight.

  21. D-Rok Says:

So 340 is good for Vea, ummmkay. If us fans can see this, where are the voices of the conditioning coaches for the Bucs? Is it possible they know better than us and use sports physiology as part of their training acumen for these players?

I dunno man, I dunno. Someone should ask Vea what is his optimal weight…?

This fan opines that Vea at 340 would be much more of a beast than he is at…380?

Debbie Downers are out in full force today, JFC

  23. HC Grover Says:

Bucs will win this I thinks. We have to sweep NFC South and be real good at playoff time.

  24. BillyBucco Says:

Vita seems plenty fast to me and I refuse to join the crowd that is pissed off and butt hurt because someone is injured. Like he just had Hall jump on it on purpose. The fact he didn’t even notice it until the next day tells me he plays hard. So it was sore. Who cares? Obviously way too many people on here!!!
Starting to say the guy needs to lose weight and he is lazy or soft is just ridiculous.
OMG the sky is falling because a 350 lb man has a “sore” foot.
I’m sure he will continue to occupy doubles this week, sore foot or not.

  25. Defense Rules Says:

Looking at what Atlanta has done this season, we NEED Vea. In the 3 games that they’ve won, Falcons rushed 107 times & only passed 88 times (over 53% runs). On the 3 games they’ve lost, they ran only 31 times total & passed 116 times (only 19% runs).

In their 3 wins, the Falcons had a 0 Turnover Differential & Ridder only got sacked 5 times. In their 3 losses, the Falcons had a MINUS 6 Turnover Differential & Ridder got sacked 14 times.

Thus we NEED Vea (and Gaines) to hold their run game in check, then let’s see if Ridder can beat us (I think not).

  26. Rod Munch Says:

BillyBucco – The issue is (most) people actually want Vita on the field more, and think the best way for him to do that is to improve his conditioning.

If they didn’t like Vita or think he sucked, they’d be cheering on that he isn’t playing, and I don’t see anyone saying that.

  27. Ha-Ha-Ha Says:

    I remember “the Fridge” Perry.
    Unstoppable at 295 to 305.
    Great player 305 to 315
Good player at 320. Average to poor as his weight soared.

  28. Lloydmurphy19 Says:

I see a Buffalo coming and I think you can count that one as a loss. We need him this week to beat the Falcons. He can take next week off. The man is a stud! Stop complaining, we’re lucky to have him. He is truly the “anchor” on the D-line. We are not anywhere near as good without him. Vita is the key to Victory! Go Bucs!!!

  29. Larrd Says:

Funny, but my foot hurts now, too.

  30. Vea Second Stomach Says:

Vea needs to lose 30 to 40 lbs and he could really be a beast. His feet are mad at him for eating 6 pub subs Monday afternoon. So much potential wasted by not holding him accountable. Weight stipulations should be written into his contract.
