“They Really Can’t Double Him Like They Used To”

October 9th, 2023

Vita Vea might have to go shopping for a thank you card.

The architect and executive producer of the swarming Tampa Bay defense, head coach Todd Bowles, was asked about Vea’s early success this season in the sacks deparment. Vea has 3 1/2 through four games, a stunning pace for a defensive tackle.

Bowles said it ties to better play around Vea, he told the Buccaneers Radio Network. And one Vea teammate got a little more love than others: Logan Hall.

“Logan’s running, he’s getting off the ball a lot better now, so they really can’t double [Vea] like they used to,” Bowles said.

Hall leads Bucs defensive linemen in total snaps. So coaches certainly are seeing good things on film as the Bucs have other viable options at the position in Greg Gaines, Will Gholston and Mike Greene.

Another likely is returns to the lineup Sunday against the Lions, lightning-quick first round draft pick Calijah Kancey.

Kancey could/should help Vea continue his hot pace.

Hall, Kancey, and Vea will dominate the LOS Sunday.

Can’t wait to see this full rotation With CK!

  3. K2 Says:

Absolutely! The whole line including the outside backers are going to benefit. Kancey is like the fuse to the gunpowder. Get ready for a huge explosion!

Please, please, will someone explain the reason JTS is starting or even playing. I don’t understand it. For three years, same bat channel, same bat station. What is going on folks. He’s barely touched with a chip block from a rb n he falls. Against the eagles the ball is clearly outta Hurts hand after he throws a pass to I believe the tightend, it was obvious Hurts didn’t have the ball in his hand n it wasn’t a ROP play but JTS motioned to go after Hurts despite the obvious. He often slips n fall on plays as did Jalen Darden so did OJ Howard. How did JTS get two sacks this year. I’m sorry this guy is a bust.

Very simple. To use one of Ira’s favorite words, “Investiture.”

  6. Tampabaybucfan Says:

“Investiture”. Or in other words “Draft Ego”

  7. Proudbucsfan Says:

UHG- JTS is terrible I see him constantly giving up on plays. They need to start YaYa

  8. bucschamp Says:

so Logan, Winfield, Luke, Wirfs got better.

    only JTS didn’t

    2022 DRAFT CLASS
Licht took a lot of flak from a lot of fans for this draft class. Camarda, Hall, Goedeke, Zyon are AWESOME IN YEAR 2 … and getting better!!! Those guys were dedicated in the offseason. They and Licht deserve a lot of praise.

Next time you hear some fan whining about rookie busts (yourself included), tell them to take a look at 2022.

I see Kancey, Hall and Vita as the first lineup trio. They are going to make a scary group.

  11. Bojim Says:

I’ve never seen someone throw an OL player with one arm. A true beast..

  12. Fred McNeil Says:

I’m not as down on JTS as many, but in not going to sing his praises either. JTS = JAG.
It will be nice to get more than a tiny peek at Kancey Sunday.

  13. Jason Says:

Love Vea… but Bojim, you must be under 30. Reggie White anyone?

  14. Wild Bill Says:

JTS looks like Tarzan, plays like Jane.

  15. garro Says:

Hall may not be making alot of splash plays but I have noticed him.

He is playing hard and the hustle is there. Reminds me of Chris Hovan a bit this year.

    Go Bucs!

  16. garro Says:

    LOL Bojim

I think I saw a pic of Vea with one in each hand not long ago.

    Go Bucs!

Sly Pirate makes the perfect point for why we are saying JTS just isn’t the guy.
Year 2 for all those guys and you can see why they were drafted and how they are getting better. “The Investiture” idea is probably the ONE disappointing feature of Licht. I can’t stand EGO. Nobody cares as much as he thinks. I remember the Patriots shipping off 1st rounders all the time during the Brady years if they didn’t cut it. Shoot, sometimes after year 1.
We all know it was a luxury pick after winning the SB, having the last pick in round 1, trying to maybe get a top 10 talent. He was a forecast, a project player with ALL the right traits. But he looks like Tarzan, plays like Jane sums it up pretty well.
It’s AT LEAST time for him to come off the bench in n a rotation for YaYa. Ok, you don’t wanna give up, I get it, so see if subbing for YaYa lights a 🔥.
Anyone can see he IS NOT better than YaYa, or Gil, or Watts for that matter.
And didn’t Bowles admit it was stupid not getting Gil more snaps, right before they proceeded to give him 2 snaps again?
Time for some humble pie man.

Can’t wait to finally see Kancey play a full quarter. They really need him this Sunday
