Did Tom Brady Hand Jason Licht $1.2 Million?

Buccaneers general manager Jason Licht has a quite a unique retirement fund.
Not that he’ll need one after Team Glazer wises up and gives Licht another fat contract extension.
Licht was a guest on SiriusXM NFL Radio this week and, no surprise, the subject of Tom Brady arose.
The chatter moved to how Brady’s presence and drive, per Licht, raised the games of those on the business side of the Buccaneers. He gave an example of how the Bucs’ social media team was thrust into the limelight with loads of new followers and the engagement Brady brought.
Then Licht shared that Brady gave him a gift that is worth a lot more than the GM thought.
Last week, a Brady game worn Bucs jersey sold at auction for seven figures. That got Licht to pick up his phone.
“I was just texting with him [Tuesday,] Licht said of Brady. “I saw an article that one of his jerseys sold at auction for $1.2 million for charity. It was a game worn jersey. It was crazy. When he was here, he gave me a game worn jersey when we clinched the division a couple of years ago. It was the first time we’d won the division in a long time. And I had him sign it, you know, the day before he retired from here. And he signed it, he put my name on it — To Jason, Tom, all that stuff. I chewed him out, ‘Dammit, why’d you put my name on it. I could have sold this thing for $1.2 million dollars.'”
Joe had read previously that Brady game-worn Bucs jerseys are more valuable than Patriots jerseys because of the limited supply.
As for Licht, Joe would advise the GM that his jersey signed by Brady could be worth more because of the inscription.
Licht joked that he might find “some guy named Jason with a billion dollars that wants to buy it.”
Maybe Joe should offer Licht this website in exchange for the jersey?

Have you guys ever attempted to interview Brady?
Not really sure what you’re asking. Joe asked Brady plenty of questions at news conferences. Joe also talked to Brady off the record at the White House in 2021. Brady was never going to do a sitdown for JoeBucsFan. Ira talked to him privately. –Joe

I love Licht! Pay the man. Licht and Brady are close. Licht worked for the Patriots when Tom was on the team. I think Licht said Brady wouldn’t stop texting him during the Rams and Bengals SB after he retired the first time.
Brady also gave Godwin’s charity foundation his game worn jersey from the Saints game last year when he broke Peyton Manning’s comeback record. That’s a very valuable jersey. Goes to show how much he loved his teammates and his time here.

I think Brady loved the Bucs and still loves the Bucs. Brady would have been great last year if not for the divorce. IF anybody knows what blind items are and If you want Brady gossip its all there. It explains what happened that is if you believe them.

I hope that we can get Brady into the offensive team meetings. He never seemed to be a great mentor to his backup QB’s, but maybe now he will view things differently. It would be great to pick his brain this year and during the off-season. Did he move to Miami?

If I might pick a nit…Brady handed Jason Licht 1.2 million not the Bucs.
At first I thought Brady may have figured out some way to give the Bucs some of that cap money back. A guy can dream can’t he?

Two things can be possible at the same time.
Brady led the Bucs to their second SB and that’s GREAT. Great for him and great for the Bucs and great for us as fans.
He played one year too long and let his personal situation interfere with his prep for the season along with the fact that his skill set had diminished.
I respect Brady and believe that he proved who really won all those Pat SB’s it certainly wasn’t Belichek.
In a related observation about coaches who NEEDED their QB’s how about Sean Payton without Drew Brees?

@St Pete, three things can be possible at the same time. Brady led the Bucs to another superbowl and playoffs for the three years he was here. His last year here he could have been distracted by his personal crisis. Yet it could also be the offensive line was the worst offensive line he had in his 23 years in the league compounded by a defense that was so full of holes you could have had as many big plays as the opposing teams had against the Bucs last year!!!! Hmmm no OLine and a terrible defense. There is no QB that wins with that combo, yet the Bucs still made into the playoffs!!!!

St. Pete. Try this on for size. Brady has them by the short hairs, a 3 year contract at 25mil/yr (I think). He won’t retire after the SB and wants to play the contract out to get his money (’cause he lost a fortune in Bitcoin) and play till age 45. BA knows Brady is washed up and really wants Baker and Baker will be available. Now money enters into the equation. If Licht dumps Brady not only will the PR be bad but it will cost the Bucs 50mil to buy out the contract. That ain’t happening. So, BA wants Baker, Brady is no longer happy with BA and/or the offense (Leftwich) and won’t leave. Now Licht has a real dilemma. All things considered, it was complicated and messy but Licht managed to pull the rabbit out of the Kangol Hat.
Now we have come full circle. The sabotage of the offense. Oh boy, it just keeps getting better and I haven’t solved that puzzle yet after all. Likely never will but I’m not a quitter.
Jason Licht, I’m beginning to think you are really good. Your coffers are empty, you have pretty good team with an untested young QB, barely enough $ to sign the draft class, bring in a boatload (pirate ship) full of draftees and UFA’s and put them immediately to work and find a franchise QB for 4 mil. and create a winning product. Nice work.

Jason Licht came out of the Patriot front office so he presumably has a good relationship with Belechick and Kraft. The Bucs have a history of mutually beneficial trades with the Pats. Does that mean a closer bond between Brady and Licht than Brady and Arians ? Maybe.
There’s evidence reported by others of Brady’s social media indicating his fondness of the team. Now we have the story of Licht and Brady texting about the jersey indicating a mutual affection for one another.
Someone please find some evidence of a mutual fondness or respect between Bruce Arians, Byron Leftwich and Tom Brady.
