“He’s At Home Now”
October 2nd, 2023Hey, sometimes development and evaluation take time.
Fans don’t want to hear it, but that’s reality. The Bucs are enjoying the fruits of that NFL fact right now.
Joe wrote early this morning about right tackle Luke Goedeke winning his clash yesterday with future Hall of Fame defensive end Cam Jordan, a man who has made the past six Pro Bowles.
Todd Bowles joined the Goedeke chorus this afternoon. Goedeke, a Bucs 2022 second-round draft pick, had a rough time at left guard last season and lost his starting job. Then he got to start at right tackle last season in Week 18 when Tristan Wirfs and other starters rested for the playoffs.
He shined there at his old college position, and the Bucs didn’t look back.
“Luke has played well the last four games. I mean it wasn’t just this game,” Bowles said passionately. “Cam [Jordan] is a great player, obviously. Luke’s a lot more comfortable at right tackle; he’s at home now. He understands it. He loves the scheme. He works as hard as anybody, him and Tristan [Wirfs] worked out together all summer. And he’s holding his own. You don’t notice him because he’s not giving up many plays. He’s doing a heck of a job for us.”
Joe loved that “he’s home now” line from Bowles.
Joe sure hopes Goedeke is home. That would mean the Bucs have one hell of a tandem of 24-year-old tackles. Somebody ice up a cold celebratory Big Storm beer for general manager Jason Licht.

Kid is playing well. I don’t ever want to hear an offensive lineman’s name during the game. Luke is playing very well.

Now he is the glass eater ! Go luke
October 2nd, 2023 at 1:03 pm
More and more we gotta realize Bowles was given a raw deal last season
October 2nd, 2023 at 1:05 pm
Maximus and Luke Geodeke..You’re home now.

That video Joe posted of Goedekke staying with Jordan and keeping him away from Baker long enough for the magic TD pass was an eye opener for me.
As the season progresses the Bucs have a chance to develop an OL that is actually special. Again….the right side has four games of NFL experience at their position…with Mauch having only four games of NFL experience period!
Hainsey is solid if not as strong as the rest…he has the brains to call pre snap blocking assignments…pass blocks well…and seems to be very comfortable with snapping the ball.

Awesome cause he sucked at guard; would like to see canales take advatage of some of the strengths on the perimeter and get the run game going with that; all of the good run teams use some wing T techniques and get huge running lanes like eagles, maybe Canales get this done too

Keep that energy Joe when it comes to Rashad White 🤷🏾♂️
October 2nd, 2023 at 1:10 pm
I saw PFF had Goedeke ranked as the #17 OT in the NFL… Not the #17 ranked RT but the #17th ranked OT in the NFL.
That is pretty awesome for a second year player who just switched positions from his rookie year.
Nice work big fella. What a pleasant surprise.

“Hey, sometimes development and evaluation take time.”
Or just by letting them play the same position they did in college
October 2nd, 2023 at 1:12 pm
I’m still a little worried about the O line. Mayfield has been scrambling like crazy this year — Brady might have been sacked ten times yesterday. And we still can’t seem to get a push on 3rd and 1. Great win but I’d still like to see some improvement there.

Jack right on, The KISS principle is undefeated

With this outlook, it makes sense that Canales believes it is just gonna take more reps for the running game to start working.
Mauch will grow into his own as well. Next year will be even better for him.
I looked at the pics of guys boarding the plane and noticed Luke looks like a rock. Hardly any fat on the guy. Makes me wonder if he could carry even more weight. Of course you don’t wanna lose athleticism but a BIG nasty O Line could pay dividends for years to come.
We have invested heavily on D Line the last few drafts, so I believe LG will be targeted in the first round next year, of course I’m not completely sold on Mayfield yet, but after a rough start accuracy wise in the last game I didn’t think he was the answer. After the game I was proud of his intangibles and that is hard to replace. He just keeps making things happen.
Who can argue with 3-1?
October 2nd, 2023 at 1:15 pm
Whether he turns out to be a great pick or just a solid pick, at this point, he has shown that he belongs in the NFL.
Another example of our OL coaches developing a player.

You know what I didn’t hear yesterday? 3rd down Flag ,Holding on Donovan Smith !
October 2nd, 2023 at 1:19 pm
And all those that gave up on him last year. A rookie! Proud of him.
October 2nd, 2023 at 1:50 pm
#99 that is the best post of the year so far
October 2nd, 2023 at 2:05 pm
Nah, Best part of the year is when we found out we don’t have a scared turtling head coach, I was flabbergasted at the guy in charge that Minnesota game.
October 2nd, 2023 at 2:41 pm
Casuals were ready to cut him last season.
That’s why they are casuals.
October 2nd, 2023 at 3:09 pm
The interior line still needs work. No matter how many times Canales calls a run up the gut, it still fails. Since it’s looking like the Bucs won’t need to draft a QB, maybe they can use their 1st round pick on a stud C/G.

As I have said, oline and defense. Those are the base of a winning team. Not QBs and the other media skill players. Amateurs talk about tactics. Generals talk logistics. Media scumbags talk skill players. Pros talk O Line and defense. If you dont have a good Oline it really doesnt matter who the QB is. This Oline on sunday gave the skill players a chance to move the ball on sunday. And the skill players delivered! Finally!! Can they continue against the better teams?
October 2nd, 2023 at 3:22 pm
Why all the hot air being wasted on a dude who is gone: Donovan Smith? Get over it! You yahoos should have been here during the 1980s. Talk about lousy and rotten. You had to be halfway nuts and totally devoted to stay a genuine Bucs fan back then. The hardcore old timers on here know exactly what I’m talking about! This is fun now. Go Bucs!

MUCH improved at RT that’s for sure. Glad to see it.
October 2nd, 2023 at 4:09 pm
1st round center next year.
Hainsey can be a career backup.
But we need the best center in college football next season.
And he needs to have guard experience.
We need a 1st round center/guard next year.
Hainsey is a good backup.
But he gets zero push in the run game.
No shame in having a 3rd round swing lineman with lots of starting experience.
But Hainsey is not a starter in the NFL.

I am seeing progress from Goedeke and love it. However I remember preseason against the Stealers when they had a small speed rusher that ate Goedekes lunch. Hopefully he learned from that and he doesn’t have to face one.
October 2nd, 2023 at 4:30 pm
I like our Oline right now. I wouldn’t draft a guard in the first round. I would draft a running back. I like White but we need a bellcow back. Maybe Barry Sanders has a son somewhere
October 2nd, 2023 at 6:17 pm
777 he is a starter in this league on our team . We need the best center in CF what an idiot. Sure glad you are not in charge of this team there are alot of things this team needs but center is low on the list
October 2nd, 2023 at 7:24 pm
The best thing that can be said about an offensive lineman after a game is his name wasn’t called. That means an O-lineman played a good game.
Happy for Luke. Last year didn’t make sense. LG at RG in Shaq Mason and RT at LG with Luke. Welcome home Luke.

Most of the new age fans don’t have patience and live in the give me now culture. Greatness takes time. Some players take time to develop some blow up rigjt out the gate but can’t sustain the success. Rather have a guy who takes time to develop and does great over a long time period than a flash in the pan player
October 2nd, 2023 at 7:46 pm
I am liking the oline! Now we need a running back with SPEED AND POWER!!! Biggest weakness now in the Bucs offense. A constant 3 yard gain or less sucks. With rookies making great leaping td catches the Bucs offense has some dam good weapons on offense now. But the run game sucks. Sorry, but it does.
October 2nd, 2023 at 7:59 pm
Leave it up to the low IQ people posting here and Goedeke would’ve been cut during training camp along with Zion McCollum and Logan Hall. Newsflash, Goedeke is our 2nd best lineman and McCollum has been our best CB. Teams are throwing away from him when they can and when they don’t, he’s all over the route. Hall might not be blowing up the stat sheet but he’s making it possible for others to do so.
October 2nd, 2023 at 7:59 pm
Licht has proven his ability to draft O-Linemen and the team has proven their ability to develop O-Lineman. We just need to keep drafting them and developing them and believe in the process.
October 3rd, 2023 at 12:42 am
yes joe…correctamundo…
we have one hell of a tandem of 24-year-old tackles…
he’s settling in at RT nicely…
they’re both settling in nicely and will both only get better there too
October 3rd, 2023 at 11:17 am
Luke is playing well. I would love to see an Elite LT or RT drafted to move Luke inside to RG. Move Cody over the LG, which is his natural side, and allow the line to grow.
