“Fundamental Execution”

Monday night’s game film was not one to burn, offensive coordinator Dave Canales said today.
Why? Because so many of the Bucs’ issues were about fundamental football.
“Really looking at it — and of course, like one of my skills is overthinking a lot of things — and just kind of sitting there looking at it, it just came down to fundamental execution. You know, throwing and catching, blocking, finishing runs — all those things that we have to get better at. You know, we’ve had three performances in the regular season now and none of them are really up to the standard we want fundamentally.”
Yes, there were drops and holes were not hit aggressively by running backs. And Baker Mayfield has a few throws he’d like back.
Canales, Joe assumes, does not expect a perfect game, but considering how few plays the Bucs ran against the Eagles, the basic-mistake ratio was too high.

10 days to prepare! Eagles were ready for Bowles same old blitzes. You think he’d try to change it up and actually play more press man having big corners.
How is Bowles going to handle slant boy this week because that’s a weakness in his defense apparently.
Offense is new and they have playmakers, at some point they’ll beat through

Well Dave, to be honest the offense sucks so far. We’ve seen precious little of the training camp talk when u were saying we’re going to have alot of moving parts, we will scheme plays for our skill players to flourish, make defenses defend every blade of grass and keep them guessing.
Sounds good but it sure as hell hasn’t looked good.

You left out the part about the oline getting blown out of the back of the end zone on nearly every play. Have anything to do with how the rest of the offense performed?…probably not if you just read the articles instead of trusting what you saw.

I like this guy, because I feel like the first two games made this team think they were good. And yes we won those games but we’ve learned those teams aren’t very good. Monday we got whooped by a good team and there is a lot to learn from our mistakes both in execution and play calling. Study how you got beat, because rest assured the rest of the league is looking at it too.

Imagine making what these guys make and still being unable to do the basics of your job. A job you have done in one form or another most of your life. And, imagine fans continuing to pay their hard earned money to watch it.

On top of what Canales says about the offense – it was the defense that made me spit beer all over the room. Go back and watch how JTS gets absolutely rag dolled with 5:33 left in the 2nd quarter. Absolutely speechless that this dude still starts.

I agree that it was our defense that was disappointing…..they ran for 200 yards and chewed us up at will….
Yes, the offense was poor too….but I expected that…..it’s been weak for over a year.
I can guarantee you that Brady would have done no better Monday night.

After we got the TD, Eagles took the ball and never gave it back. I think there were over 9 minutes left in the game. Never going to win if the D can’t stop the opponent and give the offense a chance to score again.

In my last post I neglected that interception on the 1/2 yard line. The defense did get the ball back and the offense had a single play (resulting in a safety) before allowing the Eagles to have the ball again.

I hope Canales is being more specific in player grading, coach grading and his game plan evaluation. Just saying they will do better isn’t really an answer. I can understand Canales not wanting to tell the press too much but they need to take a hard look at the game and make specific changes for the Aints.
The same thing applies to the defense and special teams as they got beat up too.

That was a great quote from Canales Joe. Particularly liked … ‘One of my skills is overthinking a lot of things’. Good to see he could keep a sense of humor after Monday’s game.
We all expected that this offense would probably take a half season to gel, but reality is that we’re missing several pieces that it’ll take to be truly elite. We’ve got ‘holes’ in every position group on offense. Our RB group is meh, as is our TE group. Our OLine will surely improve as it plays together more, but I’m not convinced that all 5 are ‘starter quality’. And yes, Hainsey is the one who concerns me the most (he’s got the mental part down, but he doesn’t seem to have the quickness & strength to hold the center of the line).
And Pewter Power you’re right about the Eagles being ready for Bowles’ blitzes. Bucs blitzed 29 times on Philly’s 78 plays, but only ended up with 1 sack & 4 hurries to show for it. Hurts often had all day to throw, and their OLine blew cavernous holes through our defense for their RBs. Using White as a gimpy spy on Hurts obviously didn’t yield the same results it did against Fields. We were overmatched big-time on both sides of the ball, and it showed in the TOP.

It’s all a lot of noise. the offense has been putrid, nearly as bad as last year and it looks very similar in play calling. The only difference is Baker can move and Brady could not

“holes were not hit aggressively by running backs” What holes? The interior of our offensive line got trounced. Just watch the goal line safety play. Linemen were collapsing as soon as the ball was snapped.

Canales stating the obvious does not make it any more appealing to this fan.
We were however playing a very talented team on Monday. Our guys now have a true understanding of how much work they have left to do.
