Carlton Davis And His Bum Toe
September 26th, 2023So last night made it two games in a row with Bucs cornerback Carlton Davis not playing because of a toe injury.
Joe didn’t hear the toe was broken. So “toe injury” to Joe means it is minor. However, Joe wanted to know more, in part due to fear because the worst thing that can happen to a skill position player is the dreaded turf toe.
It killed Deion Sanders’ career and is still giving him problems some 23 years later.
And of course, who could forget how former Bucs offensive lineman Carl Nicks’ turf toe (along with the MRSA) did in his career.
So last night Joe asked Bucs coach Todd Bowles if Davis is fighting a turf toe injury. Bowles admitted he isn’t sure.
“It’s a toe injury,” Bowles said. “Right now, I don’t know if it’s a turf toe injury or a regular injury.
“But, he’s trying to get back out there and when he comes back, we’ll be ready for him.”
Davis did give it a go last night in pregame warmups but couldn’t get on the field. Joe is confident the Bucs weighed playing him with not wanting to aggravate the injury and losing him longer than one game, sort of like Vita Vea.
Vea, the Bucs’ manbeast defensive tackle, was questionable to play last night, though he did. Vea is dealing with a pec injury. Those things are nasty and many torn pecs will put a guy on the shelf for the season.
“We’re not trying to get him hurt too much, you know,” Bowles said of Vea. “We tried to rotate him as much as we could, and we got out of him what we could.”
If Davis has turf toe with Vea’s having a bad pec, those are two delicate injuries the Bucs and Davis/Vea are going to have to navigate. It’s almost worth playing it safe and keeping those guys out a game or two so they don’t miss months — or end their seasons.

What is with all the smoke and mirrors from this team about player injuries??? I fully understand teams don’t want to give away every detail with injuries, but this is reaching absurdity. Every time Blows gets asked about a player injury, he’s all shoulders. How have we not been fined by the NFL for this ridiculousness? Especially with all the tie ins to gambling, how did we get away with an entire season plus of saying we didn’t know the extent of our starting (and one of the highest paid at his position I might add) center’s injury because his knee was swollen? At this point we’ve surpassed Belichek in secrecy.
And then let’s look at the string of injuries themselves. I feel terrible for all these guys on a personal level, but my goodness has a team ever had a worse string of injury luck to guys that just got big contracts? Jensen got all that money for one poorly played playoff game and now his career is likely over. Gage close to $20M so far to not be fully healthy for any weeklong period in two years. And now this article insinuating our perpetually injured so called #1 corner could have a career altering injury shortly after signing a huge contract. All you can say is “it’s a Bucs life” I guess…

That early bye looking more like a good thing, this team is piling on the injuries early with some key players.
September 26th, 2023 at 6:32 am
Ask former Buc Brian Kelly about toe injury
September 26th, 2023 at 6:35 am
This is eerily reminiscent of last year after going 2-0 before imploding. The injuries this team accumulates is laughable. We are the Tampa Bay Porcelain Dolls.

Davis, Dean always hurt, never pick off passes, making waaaay to much money. Highly over rated.
September 26th, 2023 at 7:22 am
Updated from yesterday’s memo to our two multi-million-dollar CBs….
STFU!!!!!!
September 26th, 2023 at 7:37 am
Cut the toe off
September 26th, 2023 at 7:38 am
So we know our best CB is out for the game, we were going to play 10-12 yards off their receivers at the line. After the 2nd qtr it was apparent JTS only had 1 move; run 7 yards towards the opposite end zone and hope someone would run into him. JTS is never making a difference, put him on the line and bump, chip their #1 receiver. We only have 11 players on defense, at least have this guy make some kind of contribution.

13 UDFA and rookies, 30+ players with less than 3 year’s experience, Baker and Todd
It shows against real teams
September 26th, 2023 at 7:53 am
without them two players our D is Fuked!
and i agree JTS should be benched for Diaby!
September 26th, 2023 at 7:56 am
What shows is trying to run the GD ball all the time when you can’t. Over paid players that can’t stay on the field. Other teams have injured players and over come it. Enough excuses.
September 26th, 2023 at 8:00 am
I’d get more information from Karine Jean-Pierre (aka The Binder) then I would get from Bowles.
September 26th, 2023 at 8:04 am
A bum with a Bum toe just a bummer
September 26th, 2023 at 8:37 am
Another genius move by Licht signing these 2 bums to large extensions. This team is a bunch of pansies.
They’re embarrassingly fragile players.
The King of the fragile’s is Russell Gage errr I mean Callijah Kancey. Yup. Bunch of winners we got here.
September 26th, 2023 at 8:40 am
I’ve asked Joe a hundred times why this is the only blog on the planet where u can’t reply or like other people’s posts. He/they have never replied.
Maybe one of you know why.
September 26th, 2023 at 8:43 am
Hodad you’re exactly right. Terrible resigning’s as far as I’m concerned.
September 26th, 2023 at 8:51 am
If thy toe offends thee cut it off!
September 26th, 2023 at 9:02 am
Ask Rex Ryan about toes…might be a different kind of conversation
September 26th, 2023 at 9:53 am
Should have let him walk in FA. He’s an injury prone nightmare.
September 26th, 2023 at 9:58 am
Wasred contracts on DB’s not worth it. Go ahead more posts, and more comments from fans about how good CD and Dean, no way am not drinking the koolaide. They have not played up to those contracts after or before they signed. Go ahead throw stats out there. Big flippin deal. Reality check.

Depth is important not only when these guys get seriously injured, but to keep them playing hard when they are merely nicked up. I am not sure Ronde would have told anyone about any of these injuries I am hearing so much about today.
McCollum did okay as far as I could tell. Delaney made a nice INT, too, though AJ Brown had a field day in the second half. Gaines looked good on some plays. You can’t be scared to play them, in any case, or try to nurse a half-injured starter through the season. It’s got to be full-go all the time.
September 26th, 2023 at 10:54 am
Gotta draft their replacements. But Kancy Dennis out smh wished we drafted a RB
September 26th, 2023 at 12:43 pm
Sounds like turf toe.
And let’s not forget Devin White is injured too.
Dee Delaney simply got abused when he came in for Dean.
Defense could fall apart quickly.
September 26th, 2023 at 12:46 pm
We got $25…possibly $30 million in two corners that can’t ever make it through a season and now both are down by week 3…neither are remotely close to shut down CBs.
September 26th, 2023 at 3:11 pm
All the hate is ridiculous from y’all. It’s a physical game. I don’t see any of y’all on the field playing even healthy. Get out of here with all that haterade. Injuries happen. Pitts got roasted idk who that guy is. Zyon will get better with the reps he’s got a bright future. Next man up in this league. Eagles lost their nickel corner for the year. Lots of other players out for the year to on other teams. Glad these guys are lost for the year
September 26th, 2023 at 3:17 pm
Play a full season that’d be a effing miracle
September 26th, 2023 at 4:29 pm
Ya, #1 Buc the hate is getting to me, too. This is OUR team. We have it no matter what. I thank Joe for trying to uncover info about injuries, but not so people can sit and complain about our players. SHEESH.
September 26th, 2023 at 11:22 pm
Bowles is really getting on my nerves with his lack of info on injuries. That was a bald face lie…”I don’t know if it’s a turf toe injury or a regular injury.”
Come on man! If the head coach doesn’t know the extent of an injury he sure as hell should know! Especially after two weeks!
Go Bucs!
September 27th, 2023 at 7:13 am
Ask youngblood,Mike Curtis,Jack Ham and hundred of other. Pass players to sit out due to a sore toe or sore back and they would have laughed at you .
September 27th, 2023 at 11:53 am
I agree with Oxycodones’ suggestion for Davis.. sorry but the toe has to go.
For Vea’s pec, just inject it with pain killers and he’ll be fine.
Roman gladiators had it far worse for far less pay, so we need perspective here.
Our guys need to toughen up dawg.
September 28th, 2023 at 4:06 am
Vita Vea’s body has not changed or evolved since he got here.
He is so strong and fast that he became complacent.
If he had worked on his fitness and his strength, he would have become the greatest DT in the NFL history.
But you can see. He hasn’t evolved at all since he got here.
Still a beast. Still amazing.
But you can’t tell me that he has reached is ceiling.
