Where Was Joe Tryon-Shoyinka?

September 25th, 2023

No longer a laughing matter.

The reason why fans and a certain outspoken podcaster of a former Bucs starting guard are screaming for Joe Tryon-Shoyinka to be benched, traded or cut was all summed up in one play Monday night.

On the surface, it sure looked gutless.

JTS is a first-round draft pick of a pass rusher. Joe is not stupid enough to suggest JTS should be drooling on a quarterback every play. Hell, Lawrence Taylor didn’t do that. But what Joe does expect from JTS is effort. That didn’t happen on a touchdown pass from Jalen Hurts that broke the game open in the first half.

With the score knotted 3-3, the Eagles had the ball on the Bucs-34, third and 10. Jalen Hurts went back to pass and he had time to set up YouTubeTV on his new flatscreen.

JTS, an alleged edge rusher, tried to go after Hurts and Eagles right tackle Lane Johnson fully owned him. Tackling dummies in Eagles training camp got more pressure on Hurts than JTS did on this particular play.

JTS looked like the Bucs pulled in a kid from a few blocks away at Jesuit and disguised him in a JTS uniform. It was fully shameful.

If Johnson wasn’t such a good right tackle, Joe would have sworn JTS gave up on the play. Still, no counter move JTS?

Again, Hurts could have ordered a Big Storm Brewing Oktoberfest beer he had so much time. When he did decide to throw — the hourglass was beginning to drain — Hurts hits Olamide Zaccheaus for the score that put the Eagles up for good.

If Joe were Todd Bowles, after tonight JTS would be on double-secret probation. And Joe would give serious consideration to having YaYa Diaby start. The Bucs don’t yet have an offense that can light up a scoreboard and come from behind by too much. So getting after a quarterback is critical and keeping the game close is a necessity.

In the recent past, the Bucs had the firepower to rack up two or three scores in a hurry. But this year the Bucs want to run the ball — with an offense that can’t run, which is actually kinda of a cool trick.

Joe hates to kill a guy for one play, but after this four-sacks-a-season start to his NFL career, which doesn’t even match Gaines Adams’ level of production, JTS needs to be on a short leash.

Enough is enough.

I think JTS was on the ground most of the game. He’d make a perfect Bronco after the Dolphins thrashed the Horsies.

  2. ElioT Says:

    He’s a freaking poser.

  3. StormyInFl Says:

It’s official – this guy is a BUST!!!!

If this useless clown is starting next game, Bowles needs his head examined.

  4. Bubby Says:

2021 was another brutal draft class for the Bucs…. Another Jason licht special.

  5. QBKilla Says:

He got pancaked by a TE….pathetic

  6. Curse of Gruden Says:

    Clown

  7. ModHairKen Says:

JTS was a non factor. So was Vea. So was White. Yes he got a pick. But he couldn’t capitalize. I get he’s hurt.

The DBs were all pathetic. The pass rush was pathetic.

  8. Durango 95 Says:

watching that guy’s performance tonight was brutal.

  9. dmatt Says:

I don’t understand what they see in this guy. He’s pure garbage. So what he’s a 1st round draft pick. Put in Markees Watt. JTS is out of his element. He should be playing flag football. He didn’t make an effort to jump up at a pass that could’ve been intercepted or swatted down. Let’s stop making excuses for him. He’s outta his league. Look what he did in the game against the bengals last year. Joe Burrow gave him an underhand pass right in his hands n he knock it away. Who does that?

  10. LVMYBUCS Says:

He a bust he has no clue how to get to the QB

  11. Wes Says:

Weak football. Got pushed around all game. Run game wasn’t there and still didn’t use bakers speed for some play action or a manly run for a first down this game. Unbelievable. Vita wasn’t a force tonight

  12. Beejezus-belt Says:

JTS was owned by Johnson all night. I feel like JTS was pancaked on at least two other plays, Raggedy Ann and Andy impersonation by JTS. Kinda disgusting waist of Glazier loot.

  13. Jugheadfla Says:

Yep, bust city, time to move on, I blame Licht for this one, dud you see the Eagles draft picks they put up during the game? Studs….we get duds

  14. EA Says:

It’s about time to blame the guy who drafted these busts, should have cleaned house last year.
I’ve heard the quote “thin at corner ” for as long as I remember, the goat was gone, it was time to clean house…….this season will be a mediocre waste .

  15. gp Says:

    He’s one guy
Did ANYONE put consistent pressure on Hurts?
    Can anyone stop a run?
Why oh WHY were our corners lining up beyond the first down marker?

Aside from a few miscues and drops on offense, this is a prime example of being severely out coached!

  16. ChiBuc Says:

Where was Barret? Did he have a stat

Jane was pancaked by a tight end. That alone should get an alleged ‘pass rush specialist” benched.

As someone else said, what the hell do they see in this idiot?

  18. Mr. Editor Says:

At some point, we’ll hear about a “mysterious” injury and that he should not have played. It’s a Bucs life! He has to bounce back against the Ain’ts.

  19. Tbbucs3 Says:

    Michael “Ghost” Johnson 2.0

  20. RagingBrisket Says:

JTS was getting passed around by the fellas at the party

  21. ChiBuc Says:

    Where was Vea (3 asst)

  22. theodore Says:

I remember a left tackle backing up to protect on a pass play, and Gaines Adams still couldn’t get pass the line of scrimmage.

  23. TonySoprano Says:

Licht’s last couple drafts have liked like garbage and if this year’s class doesn’t show some early good signs, Licht needs to be put under the microscope. It’s truly a bad sign when you’ve invested a lot of fight picks in certain positions and they are still weaknesses.

  24. Red86 Says:

The defense kept us in the game. Despite being manhandled by the Beagles o lines.

Offense failed us big time this game with multiple take aways.

  25. Frank Pillow Says:

Looks like Tarzan. Plays like Jane. Simple as that. He was rag-dolled all night long. Btw, you gotta love the huge effort Vita put out there tonight…it looked like he was wearing roller skates in between naps.

  26. Paratrooper Buc Says:

I saw number 9 get thrown around like a rag doll. I saw him go parallel to the ground as he was swing around. He doesn’t know how to use speed to beat strength. The guy will never be a star. Just a rotation guy.

  27. Tucker Says:

The bucs had alot of problems at only 25 points the eagles scored defense is not on the top of the list of things wrong with the bucs.

  28. Burt Says:

Vita Vea has always been overrated. He is super athletic for a guy his size, but he has short arms and doesn’t use any real technique or hands usage. We played a very good technically sound Oline and our dline got destroyed.

  29. Chris O Says:

This is not a good team, at all. I predicted 5 wins before the season, they might get 6-7 but that’s it. Wait until injuries pile up and our non existent depth comes into play.

  30. Pelsbuc61 Says:

Folks, Eagles GM showed how to draft big fellas on the Dline, Oline and get a RB on the cheap. Jason please follow his lead. Also Bucs overpaid for CB Davis and Dean and they’re both not playing!

  31. Proudbucsfan Says:

JTS is straight garbage. I saw him give up on multiple plays tonight. He’s not strong enough to compete professionally he is week and can’t push a tackle, he gets manhandled badly.

  32. Bucschamp Says:

I think JTS is afraid of contact he’s relying too much on his speed. See that guy who punished yaya? That’s grown man Oline Vs kids

  33. StretchOMatic Says:

    @Joe

I said this last year a couple times on this page and I’ll say it again! JTS reminds me of one of those wailing, flailing fan blow up dancing stick men at a used car lot. His arms are flying everywhere as though he is accomplishing something, yet he doesn’t go anywhere! The slightest wind can knock him over! Kind of looks like an NBA point guard trying to keep Michael Jordan from hitting an outside shot. Arms flying, waving hands, bouncing up and down.

This dude is a complete bust and a pathetic bum! I know it, you know it and HE knows it. He has had no intentions of becoming a steady NFL player. He wanted one contract for good money and feels that will set him for life. So why get hurt is his philosophy. There is nowhere else you could possibly even move him to on the team that might even be beneficial, other than the bench. Well, maybe the flagman on the tarmac for the team’s flight might fit him well, he can wave the flags.

Jane Tryon – OUT – Broken Vijayjay.

  35. I’m tired and 87 is right Says:

    Held! Refs play the narrative

  36. RGA Says:

Diaby never got near the QB either.

  37. I’m tired and 87 is right Says:

Defense did their job tonight shouldn’t even be concerned. Wait until Kancey comes back. Offense played to lose the game. Simple as that. WRs didn’t want it. Game over.

  38. unbelievable Says:

What about the BLATANT holding by their left tackle?

But yea JTS was weak sauce tonight. The whole d-line was neutered. Always too slow and a step too late to actually make s play.

We also saw why Izien is a rookie and Delanie is a 4th stringer. Dean had another up and down tonight as well.

Defense held on for a while but it was obvious in the first half they were gonna wear down. Offense couldn’t do enough. Too many wasted runs for no gain.

  39. Trey Says:

FINISH THE PLAY AND HURTS GET SACKED, you had him DEAD TO RIGHTS JTS!

  40. Hodad Says:

It was an all around a bad day at black rock.

  41. Rod Munch Says:

“JTS, an alleged edge rusher, tried to go after Hurts and Eagles right tackle Lane Johnson fully owned him.”

Do we think JTS would have done better vs Wirfs? JTS isn’t anything special, while Wirfs and Johnson are both ALL-PROs, who we expect to shutdown someone the talent level of JTS.

That, however, doesn’t mean JTS is a bum or worthless, it means he’s not a special talent, and we already knew that.

  42. Coburn Says:

Pas rush was pretty bad in general l, although they were trying to contain him. Def saw him get tagdolled once but also saw another play where he got quick pressure and was clearly held badly

  43. BA’s Red Pen Says:

    Jill Tryon is a bust.

  44. Miller5252 Says:

Joe, you should have showed the video of JTS getting Reggie White’d through the air. The lineman flung JTS with one arm so bad ole Reggie White would have been proud. Need to quit drafting guys that look like Superman because they sure haven’t panned out for the Bucs

  45. Another J Says:

Didn’t see much from Vita Vea tonight either.

  46. Todd Rolls Says:

Its ok they are solid we have a young line sometimes its takes a couple years to get to that next level. Relax

  47. Winny Testaverde Says:

Way too much estrogen and not strong enough to play in the NFL. He fell on a fumble this season and most fans thought he was about to break out. Break outta the league in 2 years or so maybe…

  48. It's Corn Says:

I don’t remember ever seeing the Buccaneers get so dominated in absolutely every match-up in the game. Name one battle they won.

  49. SlyPirate Says:

Throw JTS under the bus, okay. So which DL played well?

  50. BigSlick Says:

Vea didn’t look himself tonight, injury?

  51. Cchead Says:

D line is garbage. Jts is nfg. Where was Shaq? Oh wait you can’t criticize him. He didn’t even show up in the stat sheet. Vea nothing. But hey they beat the 0-3 Bears and the 0-3 Vikings. Go Bucs.

  52. Bucschamp Says:

Kalijah Cansey need to study this game real quick. college Olines and NFL Olines are miles apart.

  53. BucU Says:

Hey 87, Who’s this Kancey guy u referred to?
    Is he on the team?

  54. Pewter Power Says:

Joes will have a different video when they watch the tape this week because no one talks about when he got rag dolled by the walled tight end and thrown to the ground. It was clear as day because I was embarrassed by the effort, it’s when I gave up watching the game

  55. Mord Says:

Yeah, that play was glaringly bad.
His body of work speaks for itself at this point

But I agree with others waxing incredulous at the 10 yard cushions the secondary was offering. Playing behind the first down marker. Etc. makes no sense whatsoever.

Yes, both starting corners are/were hurt. But to the extent that on offense, they have this philosophy of sticking to the run game because the effort keeps opposing defenses ‘honest’, shouldn’t they challenge more with a similar philosophy on coverage?

That said …. Some QB pressure sure would have helped.

  56. Mord Says:

Also, the Eagles are absolute proof of concept for the old axiom that football is won in the trenches. Both lines dominated

  57. Eckwood Says:

Oh No Joe !! Please don’t let the getting owned by a RB #14 while Hurts lays on the ground ( not tackled or down ) a mere yard or two away ; AND the RB has no idea where Hurts is and this Pattie Cake soft Ass , dancing , look at my clean arm sleeve/ socks imposter of an NFL player can’t even get a foot closer to Hurts , WOW !! It’s shameful!! He Is Not a Football Player , He’s an Athletic check collecting ( thief) mirror lover . His lil Satin sock sleeves say everything you need to know !! DORTHY let us know if you can get JTS a Lions Heart .

  58. JN Says:

He’s absolutely atrocious… as they say in baseball a swing and a miss. Time to move on.

  59. Andrew Fish Says:

I have hoped for the best from JTS but the play that ruined it for me is when he got thrown around by a freaking TE.

Lets get Nelson back in their. At least he is decent against the run.

  60. StickinUp4Centers Says:

“Folks, Eagles GM showed how to draft big fellas on the Dline”

Let’s not pretend like the Eagles GM/scouts/coaches are identifying hidden gems in round 5 and turning them into all pro freaks at DT. It is a lot easier to get freaks like Jordan Davis and Jalen Carter when you have picks 13 or 9. Kind of like how the Bucs got Vea with a pick early in the draft.

  61. Bucs96NYC Says:

There’s no shame in getting owned by Lane Johnson aka the best RT in football. I don’t think he gave up, I just think he got owned & didn’t know what to do @ that point. Which speaks to the player, but if Tryon-Shoyinka hustles MOSTLY all the time. So let’s be real, he’s not that kind of player that don’t hustle. Other things as a player yea lol

  62. garro Says:

Trucked all the way to Port Tampa… by a tight end… I think the tight end was just thinking ….Wow…

    Go Bucs!
