Calijah Kancey Ruled Out Monday Night
September 23rd, 2023Bucs rookie defensive tackle Calijah Kancey will miss his second straight game, Todd Bowles told the local pen and mic club today.
Kancey, a first-round draft pick in April, was able to play in the season-opener at Minnesota, but in that game tweaked the calf injury that kept him out of most of training camp. He won’t play Monday night when the Bucs host the Eagles.
Kancey played 11 plays at Minnesota and immediately looked like an absolute force.
SirVocea Dennis also is ruled out for the Eagles game Monday night. Cornerback Carlton Davis (toe) is a game-time decision. He didn’t play Sunday against the Eagles.

Sending good vibes to Kancey and looking forward to seeing him with this team.

Geezuss!!! Young kids cannot even stay healthy for one full damn game!!! W T F!!!!
THE Bucs need to fire their training/recovery staff and buy some new ice š§ bath š tubs……or something!!!!!!!
September 23rd, 2023 at 12:38 pm
they’ll prolly sit kancey until after the bye week…
sucks, but one would think he should be good by then
September 23rd, 2023 at 12:38 pm
Calf injuries are no joke. I remember Vea had one years ago that out him out for awhile and so did Cam Gil. Currently Joe Burrow is dealing with the same issue. Best thing to do is sit him until heās 100%. I wouldnāt mind if it was midway through the season or more. The last thing he and the Bucs need is to push to soon and he tears it or his Achilles ruptures.

^^^^^^^^
Is this your first year following football? Football players get hurt/injured every season, some need recovery time. Thereās no sense in calling for the firing of the training staff.
September 23rd, 2023 at 12:42 pm
This guy is fragile as glass. Geezus
September 23rd, 2023 at 12:45 pm
Be back after bye.
September 23rd, 2023 at 12:49 pm
Prayers for the young man. I’m sure he’s more frustrated than us fans are.
September 23rd, 2023 at 12:50 pm
maybe a raccoon nibbled on his calf this summer
September 23rd, 2023 at 12:51 pm
We need all hands on deck, but we’ll be fine as long as Vita Vea is angry and healthy. Let’s go!
September 23rd, 2023 at 12:52 pm
Keep him out until after the bye.
September 23rd, 2023 at 12:52 pm
I agree with Adam that Kancey should be held out until after the bye week. The Buc’s defense can hold its own against Carr and the Saints.
September 23rd, 2023 at 12:54 pm
I’d rather have him rest until after the bye then aggravate it by coming back to soon. It sucks, but calf injuries can linger. I’d rather have him healthy for 12 games than hobbled for a few…..
September 23rd, 2023 at 1:03 pm
You guys are talking ignorant who say he is fragile. Look at Joe Burrow, he came back a little early, and reaggravated his, and heās a QB. It is the one injury that who need at least a month to month and a half to fully heal. Stop that noise.
September 23rd, 2023 at 1:10 pm
Ahhhh there ya go. This year’s porcelain doll is unable to go again. He’s another Russell Gage. Ridiculous. How old is this dude 43?
September 23rd, 2023 at 1:11 pm
Hey here’s an idea! Let’s let him rest until next season.
Russell Gage Jr strikes again.
September 23rd, 2023 at 1:12 pm
on another note:
on another news outlet i read a whole write up that was bashing hard on hainsey…
i couldn’t believe it…i was shocked…
i thought hainsey was playing pretty decent, replacing big red…
obviously he’s not a powerful lower bodied roadgrader, but that’s no secret…thru 2 games i think he’s played pretty darn good
September 23rd, 2023 at 1:14 pm
Geesh and with the best therapy available.
Hope itās not what the calf connects to
September 23rd, 2023 at 1:34 pm
So it didn’t just “tighten up” in the Vikings game and thus Kancey was allegedly removed from the game for “precautionary reasons”…. that was 13 days ago….
Obviously the injury was tweaked which resulted in a major setback towards full healing.
I don’t understand why the Bucs are always so non-forthcoming if not deceptive in the way they talk about/report injuries of Buccaneer players….
September 23rd, 2023 at 1:34 pm
Kancey out…broken record. Just put him on IR already.
September 23rd, 2023 at 1:50 pm
Let him rest and heal. Heās a rookie FCS. I want to see more of the natural tandem that was going down between VV and JTS last Sunday. Also, more emphasis on ST.
September 23rd, 2023 at 1:52 pm
Still remember last year when we started the season with Hicks & a full complement of DLinemen. First 2 games we go 2-0 with Hicks in there, then he gets hurt & is out for 6 games. Bucs then go 1-5 in that stretch with no Hicks. Then Hicks comes back, we win the next 2 games to make it to 5-5, then finish at 8-9.
This year, thankfully, we’ve got TWO beasts in Vea & Gaines, and TOGETHER they’ve played 117 of our 114 defensive snaps, with Hall, Greene & Gholston providing another 147 defensive snaps. IOW we’ve got enough depth right now to do OK without Kancey in there. Much rather see him get healed up to 100% before he goes back in there, because sooner or later 1 or more of the others will miss games. It never fails.
September 23rd, 2023 at 2:11 pm
I’ve been dying to see this kid play. How long did it take to rehab a calf strain? I wrestled with a strained calf through an entire season of wrestling…
September 23rd, 2023 at 2:11 pm
I wouldnāt go so far as calling him a porcelain doll my God.
I do belong they rushed him or at least listened to him say he wanted to play.
They are the coaches and he is the player. Training staff should have exercises that show if he is ready based on pain.
At this rate it would have been better to bite the bullet and put him on IR till after the bye. He is taking up a roster spot Pat OConnor could have been in.
September 23rd, 2023 at 2:17 pm
I realize that some of you guys have had the opportunity to stand on an NFL sideline.
I remember once covering a HS football game on Friday night…a college game..Tennessee..on Saturday…preseason events and then the Patriots-Steelers exhibition on Sunday night.
The differences were remarkable. HS kids wrapped up, tackled and pulled guys down…UT guys hit guys and wrapped up…the NFL guys just blasted the bejesus out of each other. It was all about inflicting pain. If a guy was going to run out of bounds the D did their best not to stop him gaining yards but to blast the snot out of the guy.
Bottom line NFL football is sanitized violence on TV….on the field it’s just amazing. I’m surprised there aren’t more guys on the IR EVERY week.
Calijah apparently has the same type injury as Burrows and he’s not exactly playing lights out either. Let him heal through the bye if needed!
The Bucs needed to hit the bye at 2-2 minimum. They’ve reached that mark and now it’s gravy…beat N.O. enter the bye at 3-1 with a win on the road at N.O. against the divisional rival and it’s all good. THEN Buc fans can truly talk about reaching the playoffs…although as we saw in Chucky’s final year sometimes a winning record is not enough.
September 23rd, 2023 at 2:18 pm
Going to need him for the long haul. He’s an X factor for this defense, and burst is his game. No sense rushing him back on a compromised calf, that makes him JAG. Get healthy Calijah, can’t wait to see you after the bye with a fresh set of legs.
September 23rd, 2023 at 2:41 pm
I hear y’all, sorry. I’m old school.
September 23rd, 2023 at 2:45 pm
That can be a really bad injury if you donāt let it fully heal. Just let the kid heal up completely before you put him back out there.
September 23rd, 2023 at 3:29 pm
These guys make millions they should tuffin up a lot more. A bunch of pā-ies
September 23rd, 2023 at 3:43 pm
Plan 9 will have to fire his booster rocket.
September 23rd, 2023 at 4:13 pm
Fake fans kick a man when heās down!
Stupid fans blame a man for getting hurt!
True fans are gonna stick with Kancey no matter what!
Do you fools think he wants to miss games?
He loves to play!
Pray for him and send him support!
Tampa Bay fans are supposed to be positive and supportive!
We were the Yucs for decades.
We should support our guys no matter what!
September 23rd, 2023 at 4:20 pm
Sit Carlton Davis bring him back after the bye. Let Zyon get them reps and build off the bears game. Donāt rush Kancey back maybe after the bye as well.
September 23rd, 2023 at 5:11 pm
This kid looking more and more like a bust if he canāt ever get on the field
September 23rd, 2023 at 5:16 pm
Injuries take as long as injuries take to heal.
What does one do?
Play your already injured 1st round pick so he can really get hurt?
Oh thatās brilliant.
This room is filled with eintsteins today.
What gives?
Everyone take a double dose of stupid pills this morning?
September 23rd, 2023 at 7:26 pm
Anyone saying someone ālooks like a bustā after 2 gamesā¦You should be embarrassed posting that junk. š
September 23rd, 2023 at 8:36 pm
Call up to Pitt and find out how they got these guys on the field to play.
This sucks, but what are you gonna do?
September 23rd, 2023 at 9:30 pm
Really ignorant statements from a few buffoons on here smh
September 23rd, 2023 at 9:42 pm
I don’t care what you think. Hes nothing but another Russell Gage. What’s that line again?
The best ability is….
September 23rd, 2023 at 9:54 pm
People just arenāt tuff anymore. Ronnie Lott cut off his pinky finger to stay in a game. Jack youngblood played with multiple fractures in his leg. There is no such thing as suck it up anymore.
September 23rd, 2023 at 11:30 pm
Ok, Not unexpected. We cam win without him.
Cut the kid some slack folks! Football is a physical and violent sport. He has been playing this game at the highest levels and doing the training for it, for well over a year. Non stop! Meaning no breaks… unlike all of the vets on our team Who have had a break in the off season. Even a young body like his has its limits.
Go Bucs!
September 24th, 2023 at 7:08 am
Calf injuries are no joke. Rest the young man. He played ten snaps in the first game. And I was damn impressed with that handful of snaps. Iād rather rest him now and have him around for the long run. If he becomes one of the next greats. We wonāt remember him sitting out early. The important thing is weāre winning without him. Once he is healthy. Our d line is going to have even more ammunition to work with. Both of our lines right now are nothing to sneeze at. Monday night will be a good measuring stick. See what we have to work on.
September 24th, 2023 at 8:18 am
I wish I had your patience boys.
September 24th, 2023 at 8:51 am
Listen hippies and fan boys – no one needs a lecture about how football players get injured, as if youāre sharing some deep wisdom thatās only passed down. But please, allow me to acknowledge your noble and virtuous white knighting, your compassion truly brings me to tears. Fans are allowed to be frustrated with the unavailability of players. I donāt know them, they arenāt my family, and theyāre 20 years younger than me at this point so please pardon me for having to dig deep for any remaining empathy I have left in my body. The Bucs havenāt exactly been forthcoming with the injury. When he sat after 11 snaps it was āprecautionaryā and intimated that they are just easing him back in ALL GOOD BRAH! Meanwhile 2 games later. YES it is fāing annoying ok
September 24th, 2023 at 10:17 am
It’s 3 games? You act like (a little b) he has been out all year! Grow up
September 24th, 2023 at 11:00 am
I would rest Kancey and Davis to try to have them healthy for the Saints. Eagles are banged up too. Give the depth guys the reps. If I had to choose one game to go all out on in the final two this quarter I’d focus on the division win.
September 24th, 2023 at 11:54 am
Gofortheface30
We should support our boyz no matter what.
Iām sure Kancey is 100 times more frustrated than you are.
Injuries happen.
Be patient bro.
Next man up!
September 24th, 2023 at 12:54 pm
Yes he’s missed 3 games but u left out the over a month BEFORE the season he’s been out. How f’ng long should a 22 or 23 yr old have to heal from a calf strain? Porcelain doll.
September 24th, 2023 at 4:23 pm
Soft
September 24th, 2023 at 4:24 pm
Soft like charmin
September 25th, 2023 at 7:54 am
Everybody is able to give their medical opinions from the seat of their pants on their sofas. None of you have a clue what it takes to be physically ready for a sport even at its lowest levels nor do you have a clue what a training staff does. It’s easy for you to pass judgment staring down to the bottom of your Burger King bags. Too bad you know less than most high school athletes.
