Carlton Davis Returns To Practice

September 21st, 2023

The Buccaneers’ No. 1 cornerback Carlton Davis missed Sunday’s game with a toe injury after not practicing last week. Today he was back at practice.

Head coach Todd Bowels said Davis was “limited” and the team will monitor his improvement as it assesses whether Davis could be ready for Monday night against the Eagles.

“He’s moving around better,” Bowles said.

Good news! Hope that toe responds well to treatment and no set backs.

  2. KC Buc Says:

We need him for this one, AJ Brown and Devonta Smith are a lot to handle!

  3. BucU Says:

Winfield needs to lay some heavy lumber on these 2. Make them think about coming over the middle for a catch.

  4. Dave Pear Says:

Our chances are way slimmer without him, that’s for sure. Speaking of DBs, Ryan Neal needs to step up his game. He’s been victimized on deep balls a few times. For someone with his reputed football IQ, he sure seems to struggle in zone. But then Bowles guys blow their assignments in zone like so many birthday balloons, so, yeah.

  5. Marine Buc Says:

    Yes!

And Philly has one starting CB on IR another starting CB questionable and a starting safety also listed as questionable…

I hope we are able to take advantage of this beat up group of DBs. The Bucs will need a few big plays from their passing game if we are going to beat Philly.

  6. gofortheface30 Says:

Devonta Smith may be the most dominant and most productive receiver ever coming out of college – he certainly had the best yr anyone has had. Fans (mostly people who just hate alabama) said that Devonta Smith was going to get broken in half because of his frame. Still waiting on that to happen. Classic real men of genius fan opinions. He is every bit the player he was at ‘Bama and is more of a threat than AJ Brown. A Todd Bowles Cover Zero special would not be the best approach

  7. BucU Says:

We need a healthyCDIII in the worst way right now. Jamaal Dean was terrible against the Bears. What’s the status of our newest porcelain doll Callijah Kancey? What’s the best ability again? Dude is a ghost. Nowhere to be seen. I’m not impressed.

  8. Bucs since 76 Says:

The Eagles are 31st against the pass, but 1st against the run. This maybe the week to pass first to set up the run.

  9. stpetebucfan Says:

Turf toe can hang on forever. I hope CD can figure a way with the training staff to work around it, but no doubt he’s got a painful season ahead.

As far as Calijah I can’t believe people are already crapping on him. Yeah only 11 plays but clearly he’s the real deal.

People got upset with GMac over injuries as well. He only took home six Pro Bowl selections.

So folks…if Calijah makes 6 pro bowls will that be enough? I ask only partly in jest because there are still plenty here who somehow feel the need to diss GMAC.

  10. Tampabaybucfan Says:

We don’t need any more Carl Nixes…..

  11. Dave Pear Says:

Thank baby jeebus that Byron Leftwich is no longer the OC. It would be Steelers 2022, 2.0

Canales has lost a RB who was starting to emerge, Chase Edmunds. The rest of the RB stable has shown zero explosivity. So, yeah – better use the pass to set up the run. Come out in 12 personnel and play action them to death to Mike and Chris on the first drive. LFG

  12. TonySoprano Says:

The problem with Kancey is how the Bucs are communicating the issue. They said they pulled him from the Vikes game for ‘precautionary’ reasons and that his calf ‘just tightened up a little on him’ …yet here we are. He missed the Bears game and there’s no word on his status heading into week 3. He’s played 11 snaps in what is shaping up to be 3 games – not good. If the Bucs would stop being so coy about the injury and just be open about its seriousness, I think fans would be more accepting.

  13. Statisticly Insignificant Reader Says:

Lot of other players (ie: Joe Burrow) dealing with calf problems. Kansey not the only one.

  14. JimBobBuc Says:

With Kancey and the other injured guys, I prefer to hold them back against the Eagles so we can dominate the Aints.

The Bears lost both safeties but we didn’t go after them and stuck to our gameplan. Aginst the Eagles, we need to be more flexible and attack the Eagles secondary where they are weakest.

AJ Brown and Hurts got into a sideline argument in the last game. Although Brown denied it, most people in Philly think Brown wanted more targets. I expect Hurts to target Brown early in the game. An opportunity for our DB’s to bait the Hurts-Brown connection early in the game.

  15. Gofortheface30 Says:

TonySoprano – (greatest show of all time). I agree. Usually injury designations are disclosed on wednesdays but I couldn’t find status anywhere. Seems as if they are being coy big time with Kancey. I want to believe it’s because they’re going to unleash him Monday night or it’s simply going to be a profoundly annoying ongoing thing all year

  16. A Bucs Fan Says:

Go as slow as possible with Kancey. Half the year if needed. We don’t want the calf to linger or turn into an Achilles injury.

  17. SlyPirate Says:

    Dave Pear Says:
Speaking of DBs, Ryan Neal needs to step up his game.

    ^^^^^^

FR. For all the amazing bright spots on the team this year, Neal hasn’t been one. I thought he was going to be a star, but he’s been a disappointment so far … especially with Whitehead performing so well elsewhere.

  18. Kidfloflo Says:

What exactly is the treatment for turf toe? I know it lingers

  19. The Beer Whisperer Says:

All the armchair tough guys, bleating out instructions to professional football players.

  20. NE Fan Says:

I’m sorry and I will get a lot of crap about this calling me a hater but Davis does nothing for me. He’s overrated and you have to watch him pat himself on the back everytime he makes a play. Just my opinion.

  21. ghost Says:

“Head coach Todd Bowels said Davis was “limited” and the team will”

    I chuckled

  22. garro Says:

Limited? Still have no idea what that means these days.

Good news? Yes…Will he play? Who knows…

Same with all our guys on the injury report.

All the mystery from Bowles on Jensen’s injury has led me to discount most of the injury news.

    Go Bucs!

  23. BillyBucco Says:

Go for the Face, injury designations don’t come out until Thursday when the team plays on Monday.
They aren’t being COY if they don’t know.
I’m pretty sure the coaches know what they have and are MORE interested than even you to get him on the field.
It’s unfortunate yes, but Logan Hall has been holding his own and Vita has been a monster inside.
Time to see if Kelce is getting too old!!!!

  24. BucsBeBack (Artist formally known as: BringBucsBack) Says:

Davis’ return won’t matter much if Bowles continues to call the WAO (Wide A$$ Open), FFD (free first down), Southwest (free to move about the country) zone defense that we execute so well w/o ever having any “communication problems”.

Draft cover-corners to play zone?! Yo no comprendo?
