How All-In Is Team Glazer For 2023?

Joe was tickled to hear that the Bucs are sniffing Rams running back Cam Akers, a talented and versatile young guy with a Super Bowl Ring.
Not because Joe is such a giant Cam Akers fan — something obviously has gone very wrong for Akers in Los Angeles — but it’s because the Bucs’ pursuit signals how serious the team is about winning.
The four Tampa Bay running backs haven’t set the world on fire this season. Rachaad White has been just ok. Chase Edmonds is hurt. Sean Tucker is struggling. And Ke’Shawn Vaughn is in the doghouse. That’s not a common recipe for greatness.
Joe wonders what Team Glazer was thinking while watching the miserable Saints-Panthers game last night as their exciting team sits with a 2-0 record. Hopefully, it was something to the effect of, “Get Jason on the phone and reinforce that he has a green light to win at all costs this season.”
Joe is not implying Team Glazer is demanding and picking free agent running backs to improve the roster. But the organizational approach starts at the top.
If it was a rebuilding/reloading/resetting year two weeks ago, now it’s something different. Fans, Team Glazer and GM Jason Licht have sampled the entree out of the oven and it tastes pretty darn good.
Yeah, the Bucs are strapped by many tens of millions in “dead” salary cap money courtesy of the Tom Brady years, but wise and aggressive in-season moves can still be made. And they’re sometimes made easier if ownership is fully on board.

Licht has crushed recent drafts and FA. If the Bucs finish the first 4 games 4-0, it’ll prove the Bucs can win now. A backup OG/C and RB upgrade are all we need to compete. If the price doesn’t mortgage our future, why not?

Do not trade assets for Akers. He looked awful in week 1, and got replaced by a second year 4th rounder. White looked very good Sunday and will only improve as he, the O-line, and Canales get more comfortable. Akers is not worth any price.

Running backs look as good as the offensive line plays. Our offensive line is a complete rebuild, they played OK in the first game, much better in the second game, and the running yards are proof. Give this group a few more games to gain experience and confidence in each other and the offensive design, and maybe we’ll all be wondering how we missed so far in judging our current running backs.
However, we are a bit short handed now in the running backs room, not really enough to do running back by committee at the moment. So going out and getting someone like Cam Akers and paying a reasonable price in a future day 3 draft pick is just fine for a depth player who has been known to shine in the past.
As for those who claim that it must be Akers’s fault that things aren’t working out for him in LA are just blowing smoke out their hindquarters. They don’t know, none of us knows, the dynamics in that lockerroom and who is at fault (most likely a combination). Very often players don’t do great on one roster with one set of coaches, but really light it up when a move is made. Don’t count on it Joe. Licht has invested in White and he’ll get the season to prove himself. There’s absolutely no excitement coming from the run game so far but I do have to credit White for getting some tough yards and he’s been great receiving and I haven’t seen him whiff any protections.
The Oline improved week 1-2 so we’ll see about that as well. Still in wait and see mode for most of this offense.

Akers had only 29 yards on 22 carries (1.3 avg) against Seattle. One game is a small sample size. He averaged 4.1 ypc last year. Not sure if I see an upgrade over R.White tho. Not familiar enough with his pass pro or receiving ability.
As for Lenny, he interviewed with the Colts last week. Might have just been a tactic to get Taylor back to the bargaining table. He’s still out there and with Chubb and Barkley going down, there may be a spot for him soon. I for one wouldn’t mind seeing him back on a team-friendly contract. He’d fit in nicely with a ball control offense and we have no power back. He can pass pro and gives Canales another weapon in the passing game. And oh yeah, he doesn’t fumble. Ever

Look guys. Did anyone expect the Bucs to come out of the first four games at 4-0? Probably not. Losing to the Eagles won’t be doom and gloom, as long as they don’t roll us (e.g., 42-3). If our goal is to win the division, I’m much more interested in the Week 4 matchup with the Saints. That game will give us a much better indication of our status within the division.

No more “All In” talk. There is so much luck involved in winning a Super Bowl. All the luck fell our way in the 2020 playoffs. The Chiefs traded away the most explosive offensive player in the NFL last year and replaced him with a hodgepodge of crap and still won a Super Bowl.
Stay the course we are currently on and build a perennial winner, not a flash in the pan. They don’t have the cap space to be all in even if they want to.
The most the Rams are going to get for Akers is a swap of late round picks anyway. Hardly an all in move. Seems to me there is a major reason why he is available anyway.

I think it will be a close game… within 3 points. Ultimately the game will come down to o-line play. Particularly Fieler and Hainsey. The eagles secondary is beatable so if Mayfield has time to throw the Bucs will score points. If he doesn’t it’s going to be a long day.

The highest total wins booked in Vegas this year was KC at 13 and they’ve already lost one. Philly was at 10. In game 1 vs. Minnesota, the Eagles recovered four fumbles or they very likely would have lost that game. I will repeat what I said earlier, the ceiling for the Buccaneers is likely 10 wins and the floor is 7. I put my money where my mouth is, taking the Buccaneers over 6.5 at +115. This week is a hard ask for the Buccaneers, though it is not impossible. I will be surprised if the Buccaneers don’t win in New Orleans.

I have zero problem with Joe’s logic here and it certainly does appear PERHAPS that is what’s going on.
I would simply say that Joe was also correct inserting the word IF to start his sentence.
While I know far less about the inner workings at OBP than the Joes I can’t help but feeling that the guys on the inside have NEVER really thought about rebuilding. I think Licht looked at it as RELOADING. And man did he do an awesome job. This team CAN win now.
Since the team is sky high over the cap I don’t perhaps comprehend how this would dramatically effect the Glazers. Yeah they want to win but they’ve ALREADY gone all in. The only reason I think the Glazers would make a call like that is they don’t trust Jason.

Happy to see the Bucs looking at ways to improve the team. I like White and believe he will improve as the season progresses. Philly has a very good team and will present a real challenge for the Bucs O-Line. Would be a huge upset if the Bucs win but I hope for a win in a big Monday night game.

I do plainly see that this whole organization is “all in” to win this year. True, we can’t sign expensive players, but we found a few that are very, very good and compliment the bevy of championship quality players we already have.
With all the huge contracts coming up next spring I’d think we should keep our draft picks. No sense trading a pick for a one year rental.
That said: Ackers has a well-known name, but his stats fall well short of the hype. Why not get somebody we don’t have to trade for?

Kareem Hunt seems like a viable option to me. I bet Fournette can’t believe what’s become of his football career. He balled out the last part of the SB 55 run. For that I appreciate him. He could be done unless a needy team takes a flyer on him. I don’t believe it will be the Bucs.

Yes the Eagles are also 2-0, but they’ve looked anything but invincible. Bucs can beat them. I’d really like to have a couple of our key players back (like Davis & Kancey for starters?), but hey, it is what it is. We played without them last game & looked fairly decent on defense.
Eagles also have a very good defense though (significantly better than Minnesota & Chicago?), so our offense will have its’ work cut out for it. Still, our team is showing some excellent ‘moxie’ & improvement game-to-game thus far, so they’ll be up for this. I’ll go out on a limb for a Bucs’ win Monday night … 24-20.

I can tell you right now, anyone suggesting we trade for a 4th year RB that is merely adequate at best (and then either re-sign or let him go at the end of the season) or suggesting we re-sign Fournette, obviously doesn’t know anything about football. Akers isn’t getting traded to anyone. He has no value. Every NFL team knows it including the Rams. Nobody inquired about Akers… why would they do that? He’s an average RB, nothing more. He has no value, especially after it was announced that he’s no longer playing for the Rams. Fournette? The same guy that averaged well under FOUR yards per carry in FOUR out of his SIX seasons as a pro? Are you serious? Only thing slower than Fournette’s feet are the fans that think he was ever a good runner. He was replaced in Jacksonville in 2020 by an undrafted rookie free agent who then had a better year than Fournette did BEFORE or AFTER in terms of yards per carry and total yardage. Fournette played last year because Brady wanted a blocker that could catch a checkdown… unfortunately, that’s all Fournette is capable of doing… blocking and catching a ball and falling over at first contact. He’s awful. If Brady were interested in winning last year, he would have pushed for a running back that could actually run the ball, not a glorified tight end that lines up in the backfield.

The Glazers are only spending $148 Million on this season’s roster.
They are getting maximum bang out of their Bucs – pun intended…
We don’t have much cap space left and there are not anymore contracts to restructure – so I don’t see this team making anymore major moves this season.
The Glazers are taking it one week at a time just like we are. We beat two weak opponents and it’s cool to be 2-0 but let’s wait until after the game against Philly before we make anymore predictions.

I think they can hang all year as a group and as long as bake can manage the games and play mistake free football , our defense can keep us in there . I’m a Rams fan first and foremost but I follow Baker and other Sooners because I am an OU Sooner grad too. I live in FL and loving rooting for the Bucs this year. Just chiming in to say I hope the Bucs steer clear of Akers. In this latest episode, the Rams made the decision that they do not want him around with so many young and impressionable players on the roster. His production is inconsistent and his blocking responsibilities have suffered sometimes as well. I believe there is quote from Rams GM Sneed out there that the decision to move on from Akers is one of culture and accountability. Maybe that is all smoke but it’s not something you say when you want to get something back in a trade. I’m sure the Bucs front office has all of the intel, but he seemed to always be in and out of McVay’s dog house.

monday night should be a barometer because we already know we play our division rivals tough…so philly is the true litmus test…
if we pass the test, it should be full steam ahead – because then we can win the division…
also adding tommy b into the fold has leveled the team up many notches, and if you choose to collapse things out after his departure, it slowly moves you back down the totem pole…
the culture, the vibe, the pride doesn’t just walk out the door with tommy b…there are 52+ other guys who know they have value and are showing it between the white lines…
it’s early – time will tell…but they’re (somewhat) balling out…let’s ride the wave as fans, players, front office and owners…

yeah if our d starts playing like we did on the superbowl run and resembles a bunch of rabid dogs out there, this team can have a huge year…
our offense is no longer the signature piece moving forward, it’s how much can this defense shine…
and it’s no knock on the d, but they can improve in a lot of areas…
they were still giving up a few big chunk plays to fields on sunday, so they’ve gotta figure that out a bit…
and i’m sure if you ask coach, he can run off a laundry list of potential improvements and tweaks…
but they certainly are playing very well…hitting hard, gang tackling, swarming the qb, all hats to the ball, etc…
and those big dogs up front seem hungry af…and we all know big dogs gotta eat

Akers isn’t anything special, but he’s a better backup than what the Bucs have no, so why not add him if you can get him for basically nothing – and everyone knows the Rams are going to cut him, so his cost should be like a 7th rounder.
I don’t really see that as all-in.
But I also would not go all-in with this team, certainly not before Monday night. The Bucs have beat two bad teams, and they allowed the Bears to get back into the game when it should have been a blow-out.
With that said I’ve said since the schedule came out the Bucs would beat the Bears and Eagles, those are just games the Bucs win. It doesn’t mean they’re actually good, it’s just the way things are.
But, as for adding Akers, the only hang-up on flipping a 7th for him is why the Rams have basically kicked him off the team. Is he nuts behind the scenes? Because if so, then no thanks, this isn’t AB you’re talking about, it’s a #2 RB.

I was at the last Bucs- Eagles game and it wasn’t even close. And Sneak played a good game. I would give him one more chance. He could be our #2 back. I haven’t been impressed with Tucker. I believe White had over a 100 yards rushing and receiving against the Bears. That is nothing to sneeze at

Also I am NOT excited about Akers. That doesn’t pass the smell test. It’s one thing to add a HOF type of talent like AB to a veteran team but quite another to add a marginal talent headcase to a young team. He has no value at this point. If you can pick him up for nothing it might be worth a shot but i wouldn’t even part with a 7th rounder for him. If you are going to sign a back atleast get Kareem Hunt who is still an above average runner and receiver
