Special Day For Shaq Barrett

September 18th, 2023

Bucs sacks king Shaq Barrett gives a thumbs-up while discussing his game-sealing pick-six.

Joe is confident that decades from now when Bucs sacks king Shaq Barrett enjoys retirement, he won’t forget how he sealed a win for the Bucs with a crazy pick-six.

It sure looked like Chicago’s runaround quarterback Justin Fields was trying to throw a screen pass from the Chicago-6 (LOL!).

The ball was actually past Shaq who reached out behind him with his right hand and plucked the ball out of the air as if he was reaching high to pick an orange off a tree. Then he crouched and muscled his way to the goal line where, with the help of teammates, he stumbled across for a 27-17 Bucs lead just before the two-minute warning.

Shaq admitted that it felt like time stood still during his pick-six.

“It slowed down for sure,” Shaq said. “I felt like that play took both five to seven seconds just from me catching the ball, running [four] yards, and being pushed into the endzone.

“It felt like in that play was in slow motion. I was standing up there being pushed for five seconds. In hindsight it was probably like two, three seconds. I don’t even know if it was that long, but that was the most tiring play of the game for me.”

Shaq became the sixth Bucs player in franchise history to have both a sack and a pick-six in the same game. The last time that happened for the Bucs was Donnie Abraham in 1999.

Shaq now has 41.5 sacks since he joined the Bucs in 2019, seventh-most in the NFL in that time.

For the absolute hell Shaq has gone through since last October — blowing out his Achilles and then the death of his daughter — Joe felt so good that of all the Bucs players to land the knockout punch to the Bears yesterday, it was Shaq.

I feel like the combination of how the players are rallying around shaq and how the bucs want to prove it was more then just brady has created a really good team spirit and togetherness could be the main reason for being undefeated

  8. Nicholas Carlson Says:

Defenses that score win a lot

Maybe Shaq can teach our highest paid DBs how to do that.

AlanBucs if the Bears had a QB they would have won by double digits. Philthadelphia will be a most worthy opponent. If our Bucs mess around & go 4-0, then I will expect a HUGE finish to the season.

It was actually 6.5 sec from the time he caught it to the time he hit the ground…but I bet it felt like forever…what a great play so happy for Shaq especially after all he has been through this last year.

Great to see #90 and #9 pressuring that throw

  12. ItzOK Says:

Fields is terrible they should move him to receiver. I’ll take the win and enjoyed watching the home team bears fans leave right after that pick 6

  13. orlbucfan Says:

Oh man, to lose a child……geezus. Barrett deserved this, and his fellow teammates made sure he broke that end zone plane. He’s never embarrassed the team on and off-field. Class act. Kudos to him!

  14. Buccos Says:

He sent the Bears fans home on that play. There were atleast as many of Bears fans as there were Bucs fans at the game. They started to get loud a few times but fortunately we kept them quiet for the most part. I actually feel sorry for them. The Bears are a storied franchise and it is sad what has happened to them. Better them than us though

  15. Craig Says:

It amazes me that he can stay so focused at this point in time. The grief of losing a child is like a roller coaster and it is hard to hold focus in a world constantly shifting on you.

Regretfully I have personal experience there.
