Dave Canales runs the offense and is the guy in charge of redefining it after the Tom Brady era.
Offensive line is the largest position group on the offense, Canales told the Buccaneers Radio Network, so it makes a ton of sense to let that unit define the culture of that side of the ball. That’s a big reason Canales loves a run-heavy approach, he said, because O-linemen love to run and they can set a physical tone for everyone.
Week 1 against the Vikings was a success from that standpoint, Canales said.
The Bucs’ playcaller also noted how he’s gotten great buy-in from wide receivers on the run-game focus, which he loves for how it wears down safeties and sets up receivers for big plays late in games.

Cody Mauch looked really good! Fieler was awesome. Tristan, I think, needs to improve his blocking. Goedoke had a good day against a beast of DE in Hunter. Hainsey still stinks at run blocking and needs to get stronger.
Now let’s get Rachaad to find the open lane and run through some holes this Sunday! If not; it’s Tucker time.

OL was decent considering how the D was stacking the box. BM does pretty well on the roll outs too!

Watched the game with a few friends, of course we were happy with the win but all 4 of us agreed that Canales play calling was unimpressive. Only week 1 but I wasn’t a fan of the hire and my mind has not changed.

I’m not sold on this offense. We won the game because of defense. I don’t know if baker isn’t executing the offense like Canales wants or if it just isn’t good. Second half was better than the first but I just don’t see this offense keeping pace with playoff caliber teams. I hope they get better every week.

For a bunch of guys (O-Line) that had not played but a few snaps together before Sunday, the results were not that bad. They had to contend with raucous crowd noise, dropped passes, poor running game, but still came away with a road victory. White looks like anything but a #1 RB, but he talks like one.

The offensive line should get better and better all season. They are almost all in new spots but they all seem smart and hard working.

Every game won or lots is won or lost by the entire team, not by any unit. I cringe every time someone says the game was won by a unit, or by an individual player, like Since76 says above. It just ain’t true.
The Bucs win on Sunday was a typical team win, with huge contributions from the defense, the offense, and special teams. That’s what it takes to beat a good team on the road in the NFL. This ain’t college ball – every freaking game is a humongous challenge, none of them should be expected to be easy. Occasionally a team has a really great day of football at the same time the other team has a really lousy day of football, and the result is a blow out. But most NFL games are won by only 1 or 2 scores, everyone of which is hard to get.
Also, unless the defense scored touchdowns against the Vikings last week (they did not), then the team cannot possibly win without the offense being humongously contributing. We allowed the other team to score 20 points, which is a good start, but it was by no means a defensive beat down, i.e., a shutout.

Correction – the defense allowed 17 points last week, not 20, and the offense scored 20 points.

I have always thought it would take 3-5 games for the OL to gel. I thought they did pretty well for their first outing, with improvement during the game. A couple of penalties were called on the OL, but not many in my opinion, and the ones that were called were not accepted as we failed a couple of third-down conversions. In fact, the entire team had only 3 penalties accepted against them in the game, tied for second-best in the league, a clean game.
Somebody needs to tell Canales that he needs to cover up his face during his play calls as some team will figure them out this year.
I’m not a fan of White, I think he’s RB4. We need to get Tucker more touches, but he seemed a little rusty and he needs some consecutive series to get into the flow better.

#99 the big fella … I have to keep telling myself that was just the FIRST GAME OF THE SEASON. No team has ever won the Super Bowl in Week 1.
All off-season, none of us had a clue of what we’d have in this team. Always seemed like the majority thought we’d win maybe 4,5 or 6 games. Relatively few seemed to like Todd Bowles as our HC (check the earlier confidence polls), and their was a huge division about who our QB should be.
I’ve had confidence all along in Bowles as our DC, and have felt that he’s not a micro-manager as a HC. IOW, the offense will go as far as Canales can take them (we’ve already seen how far Lefty could take them). Sunday’s start was promising because it was a win, but realistically our offense in particular has a lot of work to do. Good news though is that we have a lot of talented youngsters to work with.

Based on how the Vikings d-line is beating up on the eagles in the first quarter, with two sacks and multiple pressures, I’d say we should be pretty dang proud of how well the Bucs group held up all game long.

Tristan had several bad reps, especially on screens to that side.
He is an all pro yea but every player can improve.
He missed a head hunting safety #24 that ran right behind him while looking at a guy already blocking out wide.
Its gonna take time watchers tape and learning this offense to start hitting on some of these plays that will certainly work.
Even Canales said he felt several plays behind at times in game 1.
If the team executes, his play calls were great.
He cannot run out there and perform for the team.
Otton, Kieft and ME all dropped or fumbled passes that make a huge difference with rhythm as a play caller.
Canales took flack for getting Kieft involved early, but that’s only because they didn’t execute. If Kieft catches those balls and Bakers first pass was not batted down, everyone is saying his game plan was amazing.
Very winnable game this week and then the true test.
Even Rachaad White said we can’t look past the Bears and I hate he even went there. Tells me they think they will win.
They need to approach this game like it’s the 85 Bears and bring it every snap.

Given some time I thinkOur O line will be fine. Mike Evens had a critical block I noticed the other day. I think it was Godwin he sprung on a pretty nifty play call.
They sure as heck played with more intesity than last year. I don’t think the QB is gonna have to implore them to start getting after it like Brady had to do last year.
