Larry Foote: Devin White Put Contract Chatter Behind Him
September 8th, 2023In March, Devin White’s relationship with the Bucs turned cold and frosty.
Apparently frustrated by his contract talks White, put his foot down and demanded a trade as he entered the final year of his contract.
White was a no-show for OTAs and he had the appearance of a hold-in during mandatory minicamp. At some point, Bucs coach Todd Bowles and Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht had a sitdown with White to calm him down.
Since, it seems White ony has spoken of his contract and his trade demand is when members of the pen and mic club ask him about the issue. White’s position coach, Larry Foote, said White’s contract issues, whatever they were, are firmly on the back burner.
“He’s ready to go,” Foote said. “He put that stuff behind him. He’s being a pro. In this league, in the offseason, you try to handle that, but when the season approaches us, you’ve got to lock in. You’ve got to lock in.
“He’s solid for us. He’s our leader, he lines everybody up. He’s ready to go – a lot of motivation, not just for a contract but to try and win another Lombardi [trophy].”
That’s great to hear that White is laser-focused on football and not his contract. Everything about White and his contract is in his hands.
If White blows up, so do the zeros on his paycheck. If White gets driven downfield by rookie centers, gives up on plays in a one-score game and gets torched by tight ends while playing zone coverage, his paychecks next year will blow up all right.
Just not in the way he desires.

I bet Devin balls out this year. Then leaves because he’s sensitive and the Bucs hurt his feelings.

I applaud the coaches and admin for being able to defuse the situation. His ability and potential is obvious but he left himself open to scrutiny with the inconsistency and loafing caught on tape. Ball out Devin and the $ will come. If I were writing the checks I would be skeptical as thus far he has not demonstrated that he will show out through another contract. I hope I am wrong.

Not on subject at all, but I loved watching Donnie torpedo the game, doing what he does best. Don’t miss those drive killing penalties

Mike needs to do the same no offense

Joe when are we going to talk about DS76 with the late game holding call? Admittedly felt good seeing such a familiar trait repeat itself in crunch-time!

Donovan Smith? Doesn’t play for the Bucs. Not sure there is a JoeChiefsFan site.

We need the Devin White who almost single handed beat the Saints in that playoff game.
Expecting big things from him this year.
Also hoping Winfield truly is ready to go.
If Kancey does play, we might have plenty of Pass Rush.
You can’t underestimate the way Shaq must be feeling.
Guy could be back to leading the league in sacks if the coaches are correct.
Let’s just hope it isn’t a testament to a horrible offensive line.

Glad to see he has put his contract issues behind him. However, I don’t think the fans have.

Coach speak from Foote…would not expect anything else.
Hope he truly does have his head right.
Go Bucs!
