“Still A Lot Of Stuff That I’m Really Not Sure About”
September 4th, 2023The mysterious nature of this 2023 Buccaneers team is not limited to those outside One Buc Palace.
Offensive coordinator Dave Canales was chatting today and noted that he has one “really fantastic” running back, Rachaad White, and a few “good” ones.
Canales candidly explained that he really doesn’t know how each one can thrive to his fullest, including White. The Bucs’ new playcaller said it remains to be seen how much the Bucs can get from White in the passing game on third down.
“[Are] there other guys that can have a role on [third down] that can do some of the same things [as White]?” Canales said. “Where Chase [Edmonds] I know can do a lot of the pass game stuff — where you feel like Sneak [Vaughn] and Sean [Tucker] have like a lot of value on first and second downs as runners but so does Chase. So there’s still a lot of stuff that I’m really not sure about, you know, to get the full complement of who are backfield is in a game type of situation. You’d love to have the freshest back in; I do know that.”
Yes, there’s a lot of competition in the Bucs’ backfield after Rachaad White. And heck, Joe has no doubt Todd Bowles will stick with the hot hand, whomever those hands belong to.
Joe suspects Edmonds will get a load of chances early to show he’s the “1A” back, as Rondé Barber called him during a preseason broadcast.
If it’s reasonable to think Baker Mayfield can recapture his 2020 form, then it’s certainly reasonable to think 27-year-old Edmonds can find his 2020 and 2021 form that he had in Arizona. Edmonds averaged about 4.9 yards per carry and racked up more than 1,000 yards combined on the ground in those seasons.

Man he makes me think white will be big time. If we have a strong run game, it’ll help the quarterback. Brady could have used a good run game

Doesn’t make sense to go with oft an injured 27 year old Edmonds. backs don’t need experience, only fresh strong legs. Go with the two young guys, White, and Tucker.

Sean Tucker has been named the Bucs RB2…
I think White/Tucker will make a pretty solid duo as long as White stays healthy and Tucker’s heart condition doesn’t get worse.
Edmonds will be fine as the RB3/third down back guy.
Sneak Vaughn will be good at – ummmm – let me think for a minute – ummmmm
Oh ya – I remember – Sneak Vaughn will be awesome at being a below mediocre running back who can’t pass block, is limited as a pass catcher and can run for negative yardage because he can’t break a tackle to save his life….

It’s nice to have options at rb to keep the legs fresh. Would be interested on how our rbs rank on their pass protection skills. I would imagine Edmonds would have the edge with his experience…but not necessarily.

This is so encouraging. LOL

Sean Tucker will be good but don’t think he has been named RB 2 yet l think Edmonds will 2 and play more.

@ Woodenman
According to sources that are not named Joe Bucs Fan – Sean Tucker has been named as the Bucs RB2…
I’m not allowed to say who said this but a quick google search would do the trick.

White will not be able to carry the load for the Bucs. Licht should have taken a back in the draft. Coaching and the offensive line is suspect. Will not win 6 games.

Marine Buc: Vaughn reminds me of Myron Lewis in that both went to Vanderbilt and I don’t understand why they keep making the team.
Texasjoebucsfan: Tucker was predicted to be a 3rd to 4th Rounder before his medical condition made him go undrafted. So, there’s your guy that Licht picked up AFTER the draft.

Yea, yada, yada… 4-13 team. Preseason and regular season are two totally different things. The right side of the O-line will get crushed, as will whichever QB is playing. Defense will give up tons of rushing and passing yards. Just not a good year ahead.

@ Joe in Mich
“why they keep making the team”
Maybe our GM believes it is bad optics to cut one of his 3rd round picks?
If Vaughn plays out his rookie deal without getting cut – our GM will count that as a win.

Every time I read something like this the reasons for bringing Baker in becomes more confusing to me. If 3rd down receptions to running backs is a big part of the offense and sustaining drives thenwhat were they thinking? Second leading running back in receiving last year was Christian Mc Caffry. In his 1st 5 games w/ Mayfield he caught 1/3 of his passes Even with a stud like CMC Mayfield was dead last in 3rd down conversion percentage via the pass. Rasheed White is going to be better in space than McCaffery? I’m sorry but I just don’t see it.

You trolls need to STFU about the team tanking to acquire some unproven rookie. A professional sports franchise with multiple player making millions of dollar is supposed to deliberately dive to acquire some roll the dice on some unproven Rookie? Give me a break. And as for trashing Baker for getting stuck on a loser team like Carolina where they did absolutely nothing to help him?You guys are the losers not the Bucs or their coaches or Baker. Don’t worry Baker is going to fix what is wrong with your team and when he leads them to divional title and far beyond you bums will give the credit to everybody but Baker.

Pmarcello…why bother? The anger, certainty, and negativity that dominates is merely a reflection of our society at this moment. Joe feeds some of it for commercial reasons. He understands what motivates a lot of people: anger and suspicion. You’ll notice that Joe ofen refers to what he posts from other as absurd and uninformed. But they skip over that. I guarantee allthese guys so certain the team will win fewer than 5 games aren’t wagering on that.

Hodad … ‘Doesn’t make sense to go with oft an injured 27 year old Edmonds.’
Or you can ride the horse until he stumbles, then hop on another horse.

Canales’ current legendary backfield is a committee of three utility guys plus KeS Vaughn. No feature back, no power back. White is slow to get moving strider who is better catching passes in the open field, and still needs yards to get moving. Tucker is fast but undersized at 5 10. Edmonds, same, 5-9, and like White, better as a pass catcher. Vaughn is just a backup who has flashed all-around ability, but has limits and will never be a number one.
How do you do smashmouth, if there is nothing much to smash into defenses?
September 4th, 2023 at 10:57 pm
I don’t know how to handle an OC that doesn’t think he knows exactly what he’s doing, that we do what we do mentality you know.
Humbleness and an open mind are for losers.
I just can’t trust an OC that doesn’t wear a flat brim…….

@pmarshmellow,
It’s nice to have Browns fans pop in from time to time to remind us that we don’t actually have it THAT BAD….
By the way guy, wrong write up. NOBODY HERE is talking about your boy Mayfield… Seems like you maybe a bit slow on the draw and believe that this write up is bashing OUR “THE TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS” QB.. He is NO LONGER A browns, panthers, or rams QB. He is EMPLOYED by us now and we’ll talk about him however we like!
If he “EARNS” praise, he’ll get it. If he “EARNS” ridicule, HE’LL GET THAT TO! No Matter how you feel about it or me for that matter.
He’ll decide his own fate. NOT A 5ft tall, over weight potato, “maybe” like yourself. Keep your threats to yourself and worry about your own browns team, keyboard warrior. But thanks for visiting……
GO BUCS!

Still all this acrimony from the QB competition.
Can’t u wait for 1 real game before throwing Baker under tbe bus? I hated the Baker acquisition this last off-season. Over time I’ve seen this guy do every single thing asked of him since he arrived here.
Thank Goodness it’s almost time for the real games. This tug of war between Trask people and Baker people is giving me a headache.

I hate to be the one to point it out here. Spunds like the running backs will have the same problem as last year. We don’t have a three down back. Defenses will know whats coming by who’s in the backfield. They know Vaughn can’t pass block and he’s not so great at routes so if he’s in the backfield. Defenses will know its a pure run play probably up the middle. Tucker has s similar skill set to Vaughn. Edmond’s is a third down could pass block or catch. But he’s no bruiser between the tackles runner. So we again are very similar to last year. Which ever back is on the field will cue in the defense to what’s coming. So Canales better have some creative blocking schemes to help these guys out. Or the run game it will while probably improved over last year. Will still struggle.
