“Big Play” Trey Palmer Shines Again

August 19th, 2023

Put me in, coach.”

If this keeps up, Joe may have to start calling Bucs receiver Trey Palmer “Big Play Trey.”

All the Bucs rookie does is make big plays. For the second week in a row, Palmer flashed with a big play, this one tonight helped Todd Bowles win his first preseason game as Bucs coach.

In the second quarter, Palmer was able to tip to himself a slightly underthrown pass from Kyle Trask from 33 yards for the Bucs’ lone touchdown in a 13-6 win.

Last week Palmer made an acrobatic catch from Baker Mayfield in the back of the end zone and somehow got his feet inbounds for a score.

Palmer has made an impression on Bowles.

“I like the fact he is a gamer,” Bowles said of Palmer. “When the lights come on he doesn’t shy away.

“He seems to make a play all the time. That’s two weeks in a row now as well as some good practices. We really like what we see.”

With Russell Gage going down earlier this week with a knee injury that knocked him out for the year, who is the No. 3 receiver? Well, Joe suggests when receivers play in preseason is a tip. The earlier a player plays, the higher up the depth chart he is.

Joe thinks Palmer has the inside track to be a No. 3 receiver over Deven Thompkins.

He’s looks like a real gem.

Should be able to more than adequately replace Russell Gage as our #3 WR

    Dude is a gamer.

  2. Pewter Power Says:

Russell Gage Was gonna lose that 3 spot at some point anyway. I wish you health brother but we probably won’t be seeing gage in a buc uniform again

  3. Buccos Says:

    Better than Gage

  4. Rican Says:

Palmer has definitely won the #3 WR spot, also Rakim Jarrett looks amazing too.

  5. A Bucs Fan Says:

ME13, CG, Palmer, Moore, Jarrett, Warner Barber and Miller go to the PS.

  6. Tim Says:

TBH at this point it seems like it’s between Palmer and Jarrett for WR3.

  7. Buc1987 Says:

Yes Joe but preseason is worthless…smh

  8. ModHairKen Says:

You know what does not look good? The OL. Nick Leverett’s nicknames should be Blown Up Bum

  9. 1#bucsfan Says:

Great practice for Palmer in these games. Now he isn’t going up against starters but if he can keep get better and he’s learning from prob the best duo of WRs in the league Palmer could have a very high ceiling

  10. MadMax Says:

Well, looks like we found our #3….Moore was good at times, he could be a 4.

  11. Jp09 Says:

I didn’t know WRs humor for under thrown balls. Joe’s notes should be taken with a grain of salt. That ball was clearly not under thrown otherwise it would’ve been intercepted.

  12. Jp09 Says:

    Jump for*

    A great pick by Licht!
Palmer is our No. 3 and looks like he will be a good one.
    Dude can fly!

  14. All_da_way Says:

Gage wasn’t going to hold onto #3 spot for long Palmer has way more upside.

  15. garro Says:

    Palmer it is!
Looking forward to hearing Trask to Palmer for six!

    Go Bucs!

  16. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Nit quite sure it matters…..#3 or #4……Moore & Palmer, Palmer & Moore.

Rakim Jarrett also looks very good……

We should try to keep Warner on the team to maintain some media relevance.

  17. Pickgrin Says:

” Palmer was able to tip to himself a slightly underthrown pass from Kyle Trask”

How was it “underthrown” when Palmer was the only one who could get to the ball and had to jump and reach up to tip it downward to himself?

Trask put that ball where only Palmer could get to it and Big Play Trey came down with it for a TD!.

    Great Play!

  18. BA’s Red Pen Says:

That ball was clearly under thrown. I know y’all love Trask but but have some credibility to your arguments.

  19. Infomeplease Says:

This kis looks like a keeper!! He will play his way into the #3 spot! Imho.

  20. Jonny Says:

Palmer clearly #WR3. I think Devin Thompkins also shows good ability as a complimentary receiver. He will be #4. Rakeem Jarrett has been impressive in training camp and despite a costly drop, did have some nice plays against the Jets.

  21. Mike Johnson Says:

    Big Play Trey…I like that.

  22. Doug Says:

Having watched Trey Palmer play for my Huskers last year, he was awesome! He catches pretty much everything and has burner speed. I was hoping my Rams would draft him. I still can’t believe he lasted as long as he did in the draft with his 40 time and his excellent hands. Bucs got a future stud WR

  23. Baker bustemup Says:

  24. BillyBucco Says:

I like Big Play Trey too.
    Thats a keeper right there.

  25. Jeffrey Becker Says:

He’s got HUGE hands, almost ten inches long. combine that with a 4.3 in the 40 and it might not matter he can’t jump and has 32 inch arms
