Of course Earl Campbell was great, but the Bucs already had Ricky Bell who was also great, and by making the trade for Jimmy Giles, they also got another pick which they used to draft Doug Williams.
So, Earl Campbell or Doug Williams + Jimmy Giles when already had Bell….
Houston never went to the Super Bowl… Doug Williams won the Super Bowl (albeit not with the Bucs)… but the Bucs in their 5th year with him and Giles and Bell were 10 points away from getting there.
