Bucs Practicing At Giants Facility

August 17th, 2023

Logan Hall and Vita Vea on the practice field this morning at Giants headquarters.

Weird morning.

As diehard Bucs fans know, the Jets canceled their joint practice with the Bucs today after the teams worked together yesterday at the Jets’ home base. Joe can say with authority that the team is very disappointed the Jets pulled the rug out like that, even though that’s not the public stance.

Regardless, Tampa Bay found a temporary home today at the Giants’ official practice facility. The Bucs are outdoors, not indoors, and they do not have access to locker rooms. And it’s underwear football, no pads, which was not the original plan for today.

Joe watched players arrive under a slight drizzle and saw a bunch of them worked on by trainers on folding tables.

Tomorrow, the Bucs have a walk-through at MetLife Stadium across the street and, of course, there’s Preseason Game 2 on Saturday night.

Joe will up date practice happenings around noon.

Will the Bucs try to hide Markees Watts? Wirfs raved about his pass rush skills. UDFA.

  2. DS Says:

@ Joe had Logan Hall showed anything in training camp?

  3. BucU Says:

    Logan who?

  4. ATLBuc Says:

Joe, how do you grade the Oline’s performance yesterday?

  5. Fred McNeil Says:

I saw Hall get a little penetration at least twice Friday Night. He has his name mentioned once or twice in the practice notes.

  6. DS Says:

I think he is just going to be a run sport guy and not a high sack guy

  7. Lord Cornelius Says:

I think Aaron Rodgers doesn’t like playing our D lol

That’s classic bulletin board material, and it surely didn’t help the Bucs in terms of getting ready for Saturday’s game nor for the season. Hope that the Bucs use that as prime motivation for this Saturday’s game. Would love to see the starters in there for at least 1 or 2 series.

  9. Tbbucs3 Says:

The Jets have an “us against the world” mentality…not surprising they would do this.

    Classless move !
    Karma is a bittch !
I don’t really know the details of the fighting yesterday but it’s on the Bucs and Jets HC’s to get it addressed after practice yesterday
    Huge inconvenience for the Bucs
Not looking good for the Saturday game, hope nobody from either team gets hurt or into trouble in that game.

  11. HC Grover Says:

Love the helmets. Why do they not use them in the real games?

  12. Brandon Says:

For those asking… Hall had a sack yesterday… instead of asking questions that are easy finding the answers to, how about reading the articles. Not too hard to ask, do your own research. It isn’t that hard.

  13. A Bucs Fan Says:

The Jets cancelled before the Bucs even traveled to Jersey. Saleh was quoted saying it was for “safety” reasons because the first day the team that gets beat up comes out the second day looking for a fight…. Guess they made up for it the first day with six fights on the first day instead.

I wonder how it will be portrayed on hard knocks.

I think that may have been for previous days? I’m not 100% sure though.

Still…I suspect the bucs will win this one on spite.

  15. PSL Bob Says:

I hope the Bucs kick the Jet’s arse Saturday night. They think they’re all that now that Aaron Rodgers is on the squad. Even though it’s a meaningless preseason game, I hope the Jets get knocked down a peg or two. LFG!!!

  16. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

I will say…this is the most excitement I’ve had for a preseason game in over a decade…

  17. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

I could be that the lack of discipline is getting to Jets coaches, and they don’t trust their players to practice nice.

Or…with the fighting…they probably are afraid of the injury bug, since they know their time with Aaron is limited.

  18. A Bucs Fan Says:

Did anyone see Gage ruptured his patellar tendon in his right knee? Man, that’s a rough injury and his 8th injury to his right leg. I hope it’s not career ending for him.

  19. Crickett Baker Says:

Grammar alert. The team “is”, the players “are”.

JUST SAW THE BUCS GAME BY GAME VEGAS LINES FOR THE YEAR
Bucs are not favored to win 1 game. They have an EVEN in one game.

Vegas has the Bucs at wins at 6.5 but 0-16-1 based on spread

I must be taking crazy pills because I think this team will be good.

I think they COULD be good. Not sure if they WILL be.

  22. LW420BUCS Says:

I’ve seen many conflicting reports that range from the Jets and Bucs knew this practice would be cancelled since March to they didn’t know about it until this morning. I guess we’ll know if either of their staff decide to address it.

Let just do some casual snooping.

If the Bucs knew well in advance the second practice was not going to be held, why:

    * Did the teams not announce it (but did send out info to media of practice dates and times for planning/travel purposes just before training camp began).

    * Did the Bucs spend likely hundreds of thousands of dollars to spend an extra day in New Jersey when they could have been in Tampa.

    * Why did the Bucs have to find a second site to practice?

Just based on these factors alone, it strongly suggests the practice was canceled late. Too late for the Bucs to make other arrangements (flight change, hotel change, shipping equipment, etc.)

  24. Joe Says:

    LW420BUCS:

Bowles also just this morning referred to the “sudden change” of plans. That’s a pretty good tell as well.

  25. Proudbucsfan Says:

Very classless move, the jets did that on purpose to mess the Bucs schedule up now they are practicing in underwear when they should have been in pads. They don’t have showers and they probably are coaches and players all frustrated. They have to smell each other on the bus ride back to the hotel also soaking wet with sweat and getting into an air-conditioned bus on the ride home could catch pneumonia.

  26. Tbbucs3 Says:

Would like to the accurate facts out about this because if the Jets did indeed cancel late leaving the Bucs in no man’s land then that’s truely a s***bird move….

Luckily the Giants had a day off or else they’d be at a local high school gymnasium.

Vegas is in the business of making money. They aren’t wrong very often about teams or how the season will go. If you were to look at the Vegas lines for the Bucs over the past 20 years you wouldn’t see significant departures from the win total. The Bucs are at 6.5 and their win total is going to be close to that number. They’re probably not going to defy the odds.

  28. Pickgrin Says:

    D-Rome Says:
“Vegas is in the business of making money. They aren’t wrong very often about teams or how the season will go”

In 2022 The official Vegas over/under lines to start the season were off by:
    – 2 games or more for 20 teams
    – 3 games or more for 11 teams
    – 4 games or more for 6 teams
    – 5 games or more for 3 teams

  29. Pickgrin Says:

So basically – in 2022 Vegas was only 37% “correct”(less than 2 games off) at somewhat accurately predicting all the NFL team’s yearly win totals … which means they were 63% “wrong” (2 or more games off)…. and 35% VERY wrong (3 or more games off).

  30. Fred McNeil Says:

D-Rome, Vegas had the Bucs winning 11.5 last year. They had the Rams at 10.5. Off quite a bit on BUCS, but not even close for Rams. They are far from infallible.
