Judge Freeman In The Exhibition Games
August 2nd, 2010A rather mellow Raheem The Dream took to the airwaves today on WDAE-AM 620 with the dean of Tampa Bay sports radio, Steve Duemig, who was live at Bucs training camp.
The head coach addressed a variety of topics but Joe was most intrigued by Raheem The Dream explaining that this year Josh Freeman will be assessed in preseason by his performance in exhibition games, rather than what he does in training camp practices.
Of course, that was hardly the case a year ago.
Raheem The Dream went on to explain that after the extraordinary work ethic Freeman showed in the offseason, the coaching staff is supremely confident that he’ll work like a manbeast in practice on all the details associated with installing the offense.
In essence, the head coach said fans should worry about his play against opponents.
Before the post-practice media throng, Raheem The Dream said he was very pleased with Freeman committing no turnovers during this morning’s red zone drills.
Joe knows many observers have been critical of Freeman’s performance in training camp thus far. Joe just can’t go there now.
The offense is typically behind the defense at this point, and Freeman’s working with new receivers. Joe’s with Raheem The Dream on this; let’s wait til he plays a quarter or two against Miami next week.

I like how he’s wearing the orange instead of red for the QB color. Just a silly observation

Not making excuses but Freeman is still only 22 or 23 If he stayed in school he would be a rookie. He is going to stare down receviers espesically if Olsen is runnig Grudens offense. Gruden woulod always call out the main read. It is up to the coachng staff to pound the roc and take pressure off of him until Freeman Progress’s to the QB we hope he can be

I love the hypocrisy! Young guys play great in practice and apparently they can judged like Price, Williams etc.
But when they play poorly – Oh we cant judge them on practice! I tend to agree b/c every team has a star practice player who doesnt translate on game day.
But you cant have it both ways. I will say, that training camp stories, are almost always just that. Last year, it was Clayton and Lefty, even the grissled vet Hovan etc – well they all sucked in the reg season.

SHOCKING!! Thomas does not agree with you Joe! Absolutely amazing . . .

You guys are hilariious. They’re installing a bunch of plays and working on drills. It’s all meaningless from Freeman unless he was totally screwing everything up

I was of course directing my disagreement with the consistency-challenged mumbling H.C. I have been calling him “Mixed-Messages-Morris.”
Speaking of mixed-messages – how about the one the org sent to Ruud?
He is pissed!!

Seems to be a fair amount of buzz on that linebacker we signed, John Alston? Don’t know anything about him but his name keeps coming up as making plays.
Freeman has really put the time in during the off season. If he’s not as good as we hope this year it’s not because he didn’t put in the effort. I’m rooting for this kid.

I think Freeman has put way too much pressure on himself. The media has hyped up “all the offseason time he’s put in” so much that now he feels like he needs to carry the team on his shoulders or otherwise he’ll be a disappointment.
The kid needs to just relax and play football, not try to save the world.
