Did Frustration From Previous Play Lead To Kyle Trask’s Interception?

By now, Joe has watched Friday night’s Bucs game three times. Hey, there is much to study.
That brings Joe to competing No. 2 quarterback Kyle Trask’s ugly interception on his first possession.
Joe is focused on what happened on the previous snap. Trask quickly threw short inside to Kaylon Geiger. The ball was significantly behind Geiger; he caught it and went to the ground for a three-yard loss. Trask showed his frustration by flashing his right arm out to the side and looking in Geiger’s direction.
That set up 3rd-and-19 from the Bucs’ 38 yard line, which turned into an easy interception for the Steelers over the middle of the field.
It’s possible Trask screwed up the throw to Geiger, or Geiger messed up by extending the quick route while Trask threw to the correct spot.
Regardless, Trask seemed rattled for what was only his fifth snap of the game.
Bad look for Trask.

Geiger probably was inside to far but in preseason why be like that when all you played with in your career is backups. Nothing about this article is more impressive than knowing you watched that game three times.

It’s a different world when the red jersey comes off. one thing Trask learned backing up brady….errr gabbert…was how to fetch the starter a juice box. Trask- start trotting….Baker is thirsty

He looks down receivers. It’s simple.
I rewatched the game – the safety reads it the whole way.
Trask did this in practice clips and on his first pass of the game.

Put Kieft next to Goedecke to help block. If the play takes takes more than 3 seconds to develop, release Kieft into the flat as a safety valve.
Helps the blocking issue and potentially opens up a fairly easy 5 yard play.
I know that is simplifying things and probably easier said than done but damn! If the plan isn’t working then try something different!

Geiger screwed up the route and Trask did his best Brady impression by staring down the receiver after he screwed up.

Let it be known that I am all for Trask being QB1. If not for the other option having the most interceptions and battled balls since he entered the league alone.
Interception was on Kyle Trask because he threw the ball.
Baker played the football that was not going to make him lose the job. When he was faced with 3rd and close to 20 he threw a 5 yard slant and jogged to the sideline. 3 @ three and out is not as bad as 1 interception. Just don’t lose.
Was the same played called in both cases and Baker played it safe to secure the job? Playing not to lose? Bucs are going from TB12 to B3. Baby Baker Bowles.
Would have rather seen Trask take a shot deep down the sideline. Go for the Home Run instead of moving the chains. Defense on that play dropped to the first down marker and had it covered all the way across the field.
Brady played to win and maybe that’s why he never sat on Bowles lap.
Replacement for Brady should be the guy that plays to win regardless on how bad it makes him look. Otherwise you’re gonna have a guy playing not to lose or look bad to insure another one year deal next year. Perhaps in Canada.

Only a masochist would watch that game 3 times! The pass protection was terrible all night. The receiver had beat his defender but a second db made a great play and cut in front of the receiver and dB who had been beat. The throw was right on target but Trask never saw the second db undercutting the play. Both the pass and run blocking was terrible all night. Pittsburgh pass rushers crushed the Bucs o line all game long. Not surprised the Bucs pulled Baker really early to protect him.

#1 Pick went 4of 6 for 21 yards 3 drives with no 1st downs. Two passes were 6 feet over the receivers heads. This one’s gonna get hurt out there.
Colts Wonderboy was maybe 8 of 12 for 67 with 1 Pick and 2 runs for 7 yards.
Neither one of the three looked as good as any of Tampa’s and none had the pressure of trying to win the job or trying not to lose it.

Let’s face it Jason Licht. Geodeke is an absolute disaster. Straight up lousy player. Trask sucked but the O line was garbage so I’m not putting that on him.

Pittsburgh pass rushers crushed the Bucs o line all game long.
That same line according to Bowles that was protecting Baker on drives 1-5 and Trask on 6-10.
Every time I run out of gas in my car I am always too tired to push it up the driveway by time I reach the gas station.
Up against fresh hungry defensemen all game OLine started at 100% energy on drive 1 and ended much lower by drive 10.
Sad thing is they could not run the ball on the first drive @ 100%

The reality is Trask will get the ball – whether its week one or week five or week seven it makes little difference. Trask is the future of this team.
In the years to come. Ira and the Joes better hope that Kyle is a forgiving sort after trying to run him out of of town.

I don’t believe we have the long term answer at QB on the roster but I thought Trask had a pretty solid day. He made some nice throws down the field. He had 4 inompletions and 2 were drops. Ko Kieft dropped what would of been a good gain and Kade Warner dropped a short completion. He had the bad throw on the INT. His miss to Durham was more on the offensive line too. He needs to still complete that pass to be a franchise guy but it wasn’t all on him. The screen he threw was inaccurate too. Other than that though his offensive line was terrible and there was no run game. Baker had that nice TD throw but I thought Trask had more impressive throws

@DCONE… What are you talking about? All you Florida homers screamed about the first two weeks of training camp is how “smart” Trask was because he had so few interceptions (5 so far btw). And how well he was managing the game, and that was how he was going to win the QB1 job. So, now Baker checks down some “possible” passing plays (we don’t really know do we?) and he’s the one who’s squeamish about throwing downfield? Baker is an all-around better passer than Trask- and you know it. Check out Baker on YouTube once in a while. Go Bucs.

I think the frustration is because he is better than what he showed the other night. Maybe it will help prime him for the Jets.

This is why this team has never developed a quarterback because the fan base or the local media don’t have no patience. It takes time to develop a quarterback especially for 2 years they neglected Trask because of Brady. The one thing that’s Brady exposed was how weak our franchise and fan base is. Trask threw 1 pick on the other side of the 50 yard line on a 3rd and 19 play. And now he sucks according to some people of the fan base. That’s crazy to me so the first time Baker Mayfield throws a pick he should be bench? So if Mahomes throw a pick he should be bench as well ? This franchise and fan base at least some of them are a joke and I feel sorry for the quarterback the bucs draft.

I’m not a Florida Homer. I’ve been a fan since Bucs were getting their butts whooped twice a year by the Lions, Packers, Vikings, and Bears.
Was a Cleveland fan when the kicker kicked from straight behind the ball, thru ‘The Drive, and ‘The Fumble. I watched on TV and saw the Referee corked in the head with the beer bottle leading to no more glass bottles being served.
Tarkington was Maholmes when Maholmes Daddy was a kid.
QB’s we’re tough back then. Baker took over @ Cleveland and I never gave them another look.
People still do the Macarena but the Artist never had another hit.
Baker is a one hit wonder. Had a hit, one that wasn’t bad and the rest sucked but some still bought the record.
You go watch the highlights and go on pretending he’s great. It’s the low lights that bother me about him.
BTW I said Trask was responsible for the Interception. He had the balls to throw it though.

Baker played so conservative that was not going to make him lose the job. Kyle played 3rd and 19th which was called in by OC but Baker did not play his 3rd and 15.
Baker is a loser garbage qb with ugly track record. He knew the qb competition could be over if he had thrown another pick. So he played it safe against Steelers second team defense.
I never thought there are still Baker’s fans in the league let a lone posting on this blog.

Jamies is a starting quarterback in the NFL and I think he’s better than Carr . Derick Carr is a guy the media love so they make excuses for him . I would rather have Jamies than Baker Mayfield any day !!!

Exactly right. Multiple qbs won the Super Bowl at another franchise as the starter.
Truthfully, the team may need to go with a center and right tackle first in the draft. Nothing worst than bringing in a qb with a bad o line. A sure way to destroy any qb fyi.

David: you are correct , It seems for some reason they were protecting Mayfield , They were letting him throw 5yard dinks all night ,even when he needed 15, ( 64 passing yards on 9 attempts in a half ! Really!), probably so he could pad
His completion Stats , never put him in any pressure situations, even took him out in the closing minutes of the first half so he would not have to make any throws under time constraints where he might panic , you would think those were the situations they would want to test him under, the very strange .

Did you watch all the pre-season games so far with qb rookies playing so poorly including C.J. Stroud and Young ?
How do you know we don’t have a franchise qb in this roster ? We have a rookie names Trask whom we have no idea what kind of upsides we have in him. In three years he hasn’t even played one meaningful regular season game with the starters and you are ready to trash him so fast.
So all you interested in to take chances on drafting different qb’s every other year without proper evaluations, training or developing any of them. I think you might have better luck playing slot machine at Hard Rock Casino.

I have Supported Trask. I have supported Mayfield as well but in a different light Completely aka, “IF” he does become the lead qb.
In fact, I’ve pounded drums and INSISTED that Trask INDEED has the UPSIDE.
Now, with that said, I’M NOT SOLD ON TRASK BEING THE FRANCHISE QB THAT WE NEED! NOT EVEN CLOSE….. However, he’s our “current” best bet in my view.
Do I think there is a better option than Mayfield or Trask? YES! AND YOU CAN TAKE THAT TO THE BANK!
I actually back the Joe’s point of view on the matter and agree whole heartedly. I at least for now, Do Not see Trask for one being THAT dynamic or capable when he has had his shots. Better than Mayfield? In the “upside department overall” YES.
However, as the reports have been coming in, and though Trask has in my opinion out performed Mayfield, he HAS NOT Blown ANY MINDS! Put it in perspective fellas, he has just BARLEY out performed Mayfield in practice. IF, IF, IF All was equal Friday night, it was clear that Mayfields experience RULED THE DAY.
