Todd Bowles Gives Mike Evans Ultimate Compliment

There are few unused superlatives when it comes to the greatest receiver in Buccaneers history.
Of course, Joe is referring to Mike Evans, who was being lauded today by Todd Bowles following Day 2 of mandatory minicamp.
Bowles dropped a new and very-Bowles-like take on Evans that is the ultimate compliment from a guy who has made his career on being a defensive guru and NFL defensive back.
“He competes like a defensive player,” Bowles said of Evans. “He’s an offensive defensive player. So I think that helps with his mentality.”
Joe thinks that’s a great way to look at Evans. He has that linebacker, attack-dog mentality in a receiver, and an eagerness to perform every nuance of the game.
Former Bucs head coach Dirk Koetter used to say that one thing the Bucs did very well is force the ball to Mike Evans. Hey, it was a solid strategy seven years ago, and Joe thinks it could be that again in 2023.

After Evans and Godwin we have questionable depth. IR Gage, Trey Palmer and?? The TE room had 2 years experience in the NFL. I see Evans having a monster year as Mayfield’s security blanket. I believe R. White is going to have a boatload of dump off passes or wheel routes vs a LB.

At some (terrible) point, Licht will move on from the Bucs. His drafting of Mike Evans should be enough to get him in the Ring of Honor. One of the best Bucs, draft picks, and careers of our time. Easy our best naturally occurring offensive player outside of Alstott.

If Mike gets another 1000 yard season and a good number of tuddies and one good playoff performance this year he’s pretty much in the HOF.
As it stands right now he’s just a maybe HOFer.
He’s BUCS ROO before the ink dries on his retirement papers unless the world comes to an end.

Said it the entire time Brady was here, but I really wished that Brady had a bit more Winston in him when throwing to Evans – in that Evans doesn’t need to be open to throw him the ball, just let him go it, or knock it down – that’s what makes Evans special. Obviously I’m not dinging Brady, he’s the GOAT, and I think playing with Brady made Evans better since he had to become a better route runner and be more precise before Brady would throw the ball to him. But at the end of the day, if Evans is one-on-one, just give him the damn ball.
I think Mayfield will do that – well, assuming the ball isn’t knocked down at the line of scrimmage.

Let’s ask Mike Evans this question: Who holds the NFL All Time record for the longest pass thrown in a regular season game? And, ask him if he’d want to play with him this year ? Hint. Baker Mayfield. 70 yards plus. It hit the facing of the stands full-tilt-boogie. Would have been 80 yards plus had he been 10 yards further back.

Mike is the epitome of consistency . He’s done things NO receiver has done . Not Jerry not Calvin Not Julio . None
He already is a H.O.F.
If he has 1k yard season this year he is a first ballot HOFer.
