Todd Bowles Can Remove Stopping Dalvin Cook From The Gameplan

June 8th, 2023

Life just got a little easier for Vita Vea and friends.

What a great day to be a Tampa Bay Buccaneers fan.

The Bucs open the 2023 season in 94 short days against the Vikings in Minnesota. And, per a fresh ProFootballTalk.com report, stud Vikings running back Dalvin Cook will not be on the roster. The Vikings will release or trade Cook by Friday and he’s been informed of the pending move.

Yes, Cook finished last season looking very average. But Joe couldn’t give a crap about that. Joe strongly suspects Cook will be fresh and explosive on opening day this season, and now the Bucs won’t have to deal with that potential nightmare of a Pro Bowl home run hitter on his home turf.

Defensive guru head coach Todd Bowles now can shift more of his focus to All-Pro Vikings receiver Justin Jefferson. When Jefferson got less than 100 yards receiving last year, the Vikings were a nothing-special team with a 4-4 record — and the Bucs have top-shelf cornerbacks that can keep Jefferson from going wild.

Joe is loving this spot for the Bucs minus Cook, plus a shaky Vikings defense and Minnesota sure to start rookie first-round pick receiver Jordan Addison opposite Jefferson.

Let’s go!

  2. ATLBuc Says:

I wonder if we will pick up Cook!!

  3. destinjohnny Says:

jTS and Logan Hall will handle them….

  4. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Cook makes sense to the Bucs except for one thing…….MONEY

  5. Dooley Says:

Vikings also cut Danielle Hunter yesterday, who led their defense with 10.5 sacks last season and has hit doubled digit sacks 4 out of 7 years in the NFL.

  6. WyomingBucsFan Ed Says:

Hunter or Cook would be a serious upgrade in touch down and edge rush

  7. Lt. Dan Says:

Wonder if the Vikings have need of a LB as in a trade?

  8. Ko Kiefer Says:

My opinion in regards to Cook and Hunter. Pass on both. This isnโ€™t the time to get cute and slightly upgrade the roster with older guys. Last year we woulda been all over this, and although Licht is fielding a competitive roster. This off-season has been far more financially responsible than last season when they went all in. It didnโ€™t work.. but you canโ€™t blame them for throwing money around. Things are different.

Hunter and Cook both still contributors on the right squads, but because financially where the Bucs are at I donโ€™t see either as fits. Especially at OLB where tremendous resources have been spent and the team needs to figure out what it has in those players.

  9. Ko Kiefer Says:

On a side note, what the hell are the Vikings doing?? Are they tanking?

  10. rrsrq Says:

I would not count out Carolina making a move for Cook, so not counting on not having to stop him. Then you would have to deal with Bijan, Jamal and Dalvin – defense better be stout against the run

  11. Obvious Says:

    Test

  12. J Says:

Don’t worry who ever the backup rb is will torch us for 115+

  13. Obvious Says:

    @rrsrq,

Your spelling out a potential to be awed by. It sure would be fun to unleash all those guys at the same time on the field. With a new and or fresh mind, new and potentially never seen before concepts would be something to see with the right talent to pull it off.

    If Only.

Let’s hope they DON’T pick up Cook!

  14. Craig Says:

The Bowles cleaner should not overlook anything this season.

He discounted a couple of somewhat mediocre teams last season and got stomped one.

Play every game to its fullest and don’t let anything sneak up on you.

  15. Keimosabe Says:

    Cook to the ciwboys

  16. Buc king Says:

If we get cook it’ll be amazing move

  17. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

The Vikings lost their receiver Adam Thielen, and that will also hurt them.
    I smell an upset!

  18. BillyBucco Says:

Not an upset when both teams suck.

  19. PA Buc Fan Says:

Cook will sign with Dolphins. He loves Miami it ls where he is from. Dolphins will be sick this year. Speed everywhere. Just need Tua to stay healthy.

  20. Buc4evr Says:

Wow, sign him before Miami does.

  21. Redeemer Says:

Pass. Fine player but expensive, and he’d be wasted here.

  22. MadMax Says:

Nope, nope, nope dont even think about it….keep eyes on the real prize, Caleb!…plus getting this cap in order.

Im not saying tank, nope to that too!!! But I wont be surprised if we naturally fit picking somewhere in the top 5 while even sincerely trying….just saying.

  23. SlyPirate Says:

MN became very one-dimensional. That’s a bad sign. They had a terrible OL last year. We should be able to get to the QB. I’m liking our chances more and more in this game.

    Lt. Dan Says
“Wonder if the Vikings have need of a LB as in a trade?”

That would not be a smart move. Not only do we need White, but in a trade we would be taking on whatever his salary is. He’s being released. No need to trade for him.

  25. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Also, he’s not old. He turns 28 just before the season starts.

Could sign him for 3 years in a deal that is cap friendly this year. Restructuring a couple players (which they have to do anyway) would create cap room or our draft picks AND Cook.

If an effort isn’t made, our team is planning to tank.

  26. Duane Says:

Cook to the Bucs is doable with the expert cap management of Jason Licht and his staff. All they need do is stretch out his contract with voidable years, and give him a signing bonus that gets allocated over multiple years. He would be a great addition, considering how badly Canales and Bowles want to boost our running game. Great help for a new quarterback too, no matter who gets the nod as starter.

  27. DFW Buc Says:

2023 is fix the cap year. Pushing it down the road could affect signing current Bucs that are proven. Pass.

  28. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:

    Wooohoooo! Tennessee…oops…Minnesota Ready! LFG

  29. SlyPirate Says:

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE VIKINGS

    31st Ranked Defense
    3rd Most Sacks Allowed

They just got rid of 6th best RB in the league and their #4 receiver.

    BUCS WIN GAME 1

  30. Kidfloflo Says:

Bucs can’t afford him and don’t want to waste the money in the next few years while we’re figuring things out…best thing about it would be besides an upgrade at RB is his knowledge of the Vikings offense and giving up the schemes and formations, play calls, checks etc. Would almost guarantee at least one win!

  31. HC Grover Says:

Sounds like the Bucs will clobber them by a 20 point margin.

  32. All_da_way Says:

Bucs have the ability to sneak up on the Vikes on opening day and steal a win. Bucs need to steal a win or two early in the season until the early bye. The early bye allows the Bucs to regroup and make a push for the rest of the season to rack up wins.

  33. JBBUCS_06 Says:

Great news! Time for new DL to pressure KC and the highly paid DBs to lock up Jefferson. We hope. ๐Ÿ‘€

  34. Rod Munch Says:

I have all the faith in the world in White, but unlike with Elliott, I don’t think Cook is washed up, and you’re always better off with multiple good players at a position (yes, including QB). I’d have no issues getting Cook, so long as it’s made known he has to win the job, he’s not being handed it.

  35. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Reality is going to hit this fanbase pretty hard.

  36. Prince of Tampa Says:

    Please get Cook please ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™
