Stunted Kyle Trask

May 31st, 2023

Bucs QB Kyle Trask.

Joe almost feels badly for competing Kyle Trask.

It sounds like his development was stunted since he landed on the Buccaneers roster.

Joe says “sounds like” because of what head coach Todd Bowles said yesterday.

Bowles noted Trask didn’t get the reps “he should get” because Tom Brady and Blaine Gabbert were ahead of him on the depth chart the past two seasons, bu now that’s changed.

“It’s really an indoctrination of his rookie year – getting all the reps he’s getting,” Bowles said of Trask. “As he gets those reps, he gets more confidence so he’s happy to be playing.”

Joe finds this all somewhat mysterious for a couple of reasons.

First, Bucco Bruce Arians ran spring practices in 2021 on multiple fields simultaniously so young players would get all the reps they needed. It’s one reason Arians wanted a huge staff.

Second, Brady was absent for a chunk of time in training camp last season, and he took veteran rest days. Plus, he wasn’t exactly Mr.-Take-Every-Rep in spring practices.

So it’s just odd for Joe to hear Bowles talk about “an indoctrination of his rookie year” when referring to Trask working in spring practices. But Joe accepts Bowles’ comment and wonders how much Trask’s growth has been stunted over the past two seasons.

Hall of Fame general manager Bill Polian was a co-host on SiriusXM NFL Radio this week and talked about how practice and game reps (preseason, too) are the key to QB accuracy.

Why? Because they affect confidence, which affects microsecond decisions on the field.

“The biggest component of [accuracy] is processing speed because you process and say, ‘Ok, here’s my read. I’m confident in it. Now I’m going to get rid of the ball.’ If there’s lack of confidence, if there’s any hesitation at all, that leads to inaccuracy because the timing is fouled up, the delivery is fouled up,” Polian said.

Part of accuracy is inate, Polian said, but the rest is tied to reps.

“There’s also a great deal of development that occurs with constant repetition in practice, ” Polian said. “You know, reps in games, that’s the only way you get better.”

Per Polian, Bengals QB Joe Burrow may be the fastest processor and the most accurate QB in the NFL.

So will Kyle Trask and/or Baker Mayfield get enough reps to be ready for Week 1?

Joe knows many fans point to Seahawks QB Geno Smith competing for his job all through training camp last season. He won the job and thrived, but it’s often ignored that Smith was entering his second season in the same offense.

Trask and Mayfield don’t have that benefit.

Licht said recently that Trask never took a snap with the ones. That is what Bowles is referring to. Taking snaps with the ones now, his development should be rapid.

  2. Duane Says:

The only accurate speculation that could be made is that noone knows anything about Trask’s ability to play. Still salty about Bowles performance last season. There should have been enough time last season to get Trask more looks. The division should have been wrapped up earlier, and the defense went on that 6 game slide of giving up the booty. Too bad Todd didnt realize this last season. He sounds like a guy that hasnt been officially put on notice that he is on the hot seat. Hoping Team Glazer clarifies that for him. LFG.

  3. Tampabaybucfan Says:

I believe it was a mistake to make Gabbert the primary backup to Brady……if Brady goes down, we are practically done anyway.
Trask should have been afforded every opportunity to succeed….

  4. DoooshLaRue Says:

Pre season games are a waste aren’t they?

  5. K_bassuka Says:

Joe we know that you are only in agreement when excuses are made for the 1st overall bust not performing. You of all people should know that Trask was never given an opportunity to compete in the past not even to be the backup.

  6. DurableDooosh Says:

But preseason games are a waste of time aren’t they?

  7. robert Says:

    what tbbf said!

  8. BucsFan1328 Says:

Second round pick should be getting plenty of reps. Our coaching staff somehow continues to drop the ball.

  9. lambchop Says:

    @Tbbf,

That’s not how the NFL works when you have a roster full of talent. If Brady went down, Gabbert had the most experience in Arians’ system to compete with a team that would have taken as much pressure off of Gabbert to carry the load like Tom did.

Look at the 49ers, they went through their depth in order before finding out that Brock Purdy is actually really good. That’s the mentality of a team that wants to win and not tank the minute the starting QB is out.

  10. AlabamaBucsFan Says:

Can’t help but to root Kyle Trask over Baker Mayfield.

  11. Dooley Says:

LMAO, the plan was pretty clear after the SB victory in Feb 2021, keep Brady as long as possible. FFWD to the draft that year, the plan didn’t change and we STILL took a QB with Brady returning and everything indicated that Trask was brought in to develop behind 2 veteran QBs. Stunted? Nah letting Kyle transition/acclimate himself to the NFL game at his own pace was a smart move, preplanned move. Multiple staff members eluded to the fact Trask sat in HS & College before he got his shot and to think that’s not what the team was attempting to replicate to get the best Kyle Trask possible you’ve just been paying too much attention to him “not beating out Blaine Gabbert” for his spot on the bench

How did anointing Josh Freeman or Jameis Winston w/o being able to afford either of the time in the classroom like we’ve done with Trask? Better yet, how’d Glennon look in 2013 when Schiano had Freeman banished to sky booth midseason? What happened to Schiano at the end of 2013?

Also, people were saying about Winston what they’re saying about Caleb Williams “just draft him and your set for 10-15 years at QB” which is the most ridiculous thing people say when it comes to extremely premature draft talk in regards to taking the next boom/bust draftee.

    Let.Kyle.Cook.

  12. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

I think I read somewhere that Tom Brady wanted an experienced backup. So if that was true, then Kyle Trask was never really given much of a chance.

  13. bubabubba Says:

In February 2021, Brady wins the Super Bowl with veteran Gabbert as his backup. Brady wants to do it again.

In April 2021, the Bucs draft Trask.

There is no chance in hell Brady would have agreed to a competition between the backup QB with whom he just won a Super Bowl and a rookie. Brady would have walked if the Bucs tried that.

There was no competition between Gabbert and Trask.

  14. bucabubba Says:

There is no chance in hell Brady would have agreed to a competition between the backup QB with whom he just won a Super Bowl and a rookie. Brady would have walked if the Bucs tried that.

There was no competition between Gabbert and Trask. And Licht confirmed it when he said Trask never took a snap with the ones.

  15. Cobraboy Says:

Arians wanted his guy—Gabbart—as a backup. Period. 2nd pick be damned.

Flat Hat didn’t know any better. Or worse. Take your pick.

Casuals think TRask is a bust. Au Contraire. He’s NEVER had a shot.

It will be fascinating to see how Trask’s performance responds to an actual opportunity to play QB in the NFL.

My question is this: WHY would Light allow that to happen? He’s in charge of the team. Is he really that hands off?

  16. Dooley Says:

“The division should have been wrapped up earlier, and the defense went on that 6 game slide of giving up the booty. Too bad Todd didnt realize this last season.”

So wait, our offense in its’ first 10 games turned the ball over 9 times, but in the last 6 games our offense turned the ball over 13 times. I respect your opinion Duane, but you do realize our offense was giving opposing offenses at least 2 extra possessions in that same stretch our defense “gave up the booty”? lol

  17. Craig Says:

Brady did not get along with inexperienced QBs, ever. All of those drafted after him by the Pats were eventually traded.

I think Brady was part of the problem with Trask being held out. He probably wanted Gabbert as his back up.

There really is not other explanation and the way Brady played last season would have been a great scenario for him to be supplanted if a promising young [layer was around.

Trask will make up for it. He has never been given any positions without being ready to step into big boy shoes. He will be the dominant Bucs QB by the end of the season.

  18. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:

Obviously, drafting kickers and QBs is not the Bucs forte.

  19. Mike Says:

You got to respect Trask for keeping a good attitude about the whole thing and biding his time. That’s a good teammate. But in the end, it’s all about producing on the field, so now he’s got to take advantage of his increased reps and convince the team he can be the best available option as a starting QB for the Bucs this year.

  20. Duane Says:

Jayzus, Joe … it ain’t that complicated, and it ain’t “stunting”.

Everybody always knew that with the GOAT on the roster and healthy, nobody else was going to get any first team reps, period. Secondly, Arians wanted someone who could step in in an emergency, should TB-12 get hurt, and not have to climb a learning curve. That is not what a rookie or even second year player is going to provide.

It would have been incredibly stupid to not have the GOAT take all the first team reps.

“I’m shocked, shocked! to learn that there is gambling going on here” says Inspector Rennault to Rick in “Casablanca”.

Or, perhaps Joe is really Captain Obvious.

  21. Mosey Says:

Trask never should have been drafted. Wasted pick that will never be productive.

  22. Cho Says:

I don’t think so, Joe. You’ve said it yourself many times the last couple of years. Trask was in one of the best QB incubators the league has ever seen. A big part of the game is mental. That, hopefully, is what he was working on the past couple of off seasons. Seeing Brady work and picking BA’s mind probably did more for him than a full season behind a bad O-line and no receivers or defense (like what happens to most 1st overall picks) would have done. I think he wins the job and looks solid.

  23. CruzanBuc Says:

We all know Brady never like Rookies backing him up because he hated feeling pressure look at Garappalo ran him off quick. His ego is to fragile. Trask should be given a fair shot to win the job honestly I think he gives us the best shot.

  24. Rand Says:

We all know Bowles is in “protect your job” mode. He knows it and we know it. He will start journeyman Mayfield and depending on our record at the bye may we see a change in QB. This will make the anti-Trask crowd happy while their narrative will be Trask wasn’t good enough to beat out Mayfield. They will ignore the fact that Bowles had his finger on the scale the whole time and that Trask wasn’t his guy to begin with. Kyle Trask will have to do exactly what he did at Florida. Come in and try to save the day with his I told you so smile on his face.

  25. Dwayne Cone Says:

Based on Trask’s production at FL had he been a 4 year started he might have won the Heisman his Senior year. In that instance he is at Jacksonville, with the Jets, or in San Francisco. Personally I feel he is better than Wilson, Lance and Mac Jones and now out of Brady’s Shadow he will grow into a true QB1.
I also think that by getting Mayfield Management thinks they might be able to get Trask on the Cheap with his next contract. Hate to see him leave and flourish at another organization because he wasn’t given a fair shot.

  26. Thomas Edrington Says:

Enough is enough, didn’t read this one and from this point, BOYCOTTING all Trask and Mayfield posts……UGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  27. ModHairKen Says:

“Mayfield overthrew a TE in practice.” The world is ending. “Trask did not get enough reps. He’s never going to amount to anything.”

    Jesus God.

  28. Hodad Says:

It’s probably for the best he didn’t get reps in Leftwich’s, and Arian’s offense. No one runs that crap anymore, he would’ve been set back if anything. The kid will get his chance finally, even with naysayer’s like Joe calling him “stunted”.

  29. D-Rok Says:

Trask himself said in his presser he felt his “role” was to sit back, be a sponge, and absorb all the info he was given from not only Brady, but Gabbert, Arians, and (laughingly) Leftwich.

I thought his response was telling, and appropriate. When the GOAT is in YOUR room, you listen.

Let’s hope Trask can now take all that learning and apply it on the field. Now he’s gonna get his shot. I’m rooting for him to succeed, whether as starter or as backup.

  30. Fred McNeil Says:

There’s all kinds of things wrong with bowlzo’s assessment of Trask.

First, Bowls doesn’t know what the word indoctrination means. Indoctrination is closer to brain-washing than it is to teaching. Indoctrination is what the teacher’s unions do to kids and college students.

Second, like Joe said: he got lots of reps when Brady was off choking his chicken.

Third, Kaaron Rodgers sat for several years behind Brett Farve. Jalen Hurts sat a good minute behind whoever the Eagles trotted out. Those guys turned out ok.

    Enough excuses!

  31. Oneilbuc Says:

Joe . So you are admitting that the bucs has destroyed Trask career just like all the other quarterbacks they drafted??

  32. 1#bucsfan Says:

Trask was in a perfect situation. Come in and learn from the best. No pressure to perform rigjt off the bat. Karen Rogers had the same thing happen to him with the packers. He was drafted and sat behind Brett farve for 2 or 3 seasons not to sure how long but it was deff more than one and look how he turned out. He’s got a few mvps and a Super Bowl ring. Not a fan of Rogers but I hope trask takes the road Rogers did.

  33. Crickett Baker Says:

@Dooley–Elude and allude are two completely different words. Elude means to get away from something or someone.

  34. Beej Says:

How many years has Jordan Love been sitting?

  35. Mikejp Says:

As Joe referred Purdy, no one knew he was too good. No one knew Mahomes and Brady too great before they had a chance. Thus, if the QB has talent, lacking preps is not a problem. Purdy was last in the depth chart but he could step up immediately. I am surprised why teams with a so so QB do not try to explore all their QBs to find out their “Purdy “.

  36. Infomeplease Says:

Bowles talk about “an indoctrination of his rookie year” when referring to Trask working in spring practices.

I believe this is due to Trask’s inability to quickly grasp the play book. He’s a slow study! Not necessarily a bad QB. It just takes him more time to mentally grasp the concepts.

    Advantage: BM!!!

  37. Infomeplease Says:

New play book slower developmental progress.

  38. D-Rok Says:

    Beej,

Like at least 2-3 years? Not sure, I’d have to look it up.

The trend I’ve noticed over the last 50 years of watching football: Rookie QB’s RARELY perform. QB’s who sit for a few years seem to fare better. I could list the names, but we all know them: Brady, Rodgers, Favre, Young…and I can’t remember the old-timer QB’s of 30+ years ago. The “formula” for a great QB seems to be sitting for a few years first, and if that trend continues, Trask might just be something.

I don’t like nor dislike Trask only because I haven’t seen him yet, but history just might be on his side, if he has that “moxie” to which Bowles keeps referencing.

  39. AnonymousBuc76 Says:

I actually do believe the arrangement did stunt his growth…

That was the frustration I had; I couldn’t understand how we couldn’t find a way to get this kid more snaps until now…
I honestly thought that having Gabbert here last season was just a total waste of time; imho Kyle should have been suiting up on Sundays…But heck what do I know, I’m just an opinionated lazy boy GM that calls it like I see it…

  40. bucabubba Says:

Infomeplease Says: “He’s a slow study!”

That’s total bull****. No Bucs coach has ever said that. Only idiots on this website say that. The Bucs coaches say otherwise:

“He’s smart. He’s got all the size, he’s got the arm, he’s got the stature of what we like. And he’s mobile. Now, he’s not a burner, but he’s mobile enough to do things.”
    Head Coach Bruce Arians

“He’s a smart kid that knows what he’s doing.”
    QB Coach Clyde Christensen

  41. Bosch Says:

You never know what kind of nonsense the Bowel Movement is going to spew. He has no clue what he is talking about, but as head coach he feels he needs to act like he does. Those that evaluate teams impartially, such as the odds makers, see right through this as this information is not coming to them through any kind of emotional filter. There are reasons they have Tampa finishing last in the worst division. Undoubtedly, poor leadership is among those reasons.

The best thing we can do as fans is to have low expectations for 2023 and high hopes for the turnaround beginning in 2024 with a new had coach and drafting a franchise QB,

  42. TOMMY MORDUE Says:

I PERSONALLY HAVE PLENTY OF CONFIDENCE IN KYLE TRASK, I WANTED THE BUC’S TO DRAFT HIM IN 2021..UNFORTUNATELY HE( TILL NOW) HAS NEVER HAD THE ADVANTAGE OF PLAYING WITH THE STARTING 1ST STRING OFFENSE & HAS BASICALLY ROAD THE BENCH FOR 2 YEARS WITH ABSOLUTELY NO MEANINGFUL REPS TO EXPERIENCE..THAT IS “FINALLY” CHANGING NOW & WE WILL FINALLY GET TO SEE WHAT WE HAVE IN THIS HEISMAN FINALIST WHO HAD A DAMN GOOD SHOOTOUT WITH JOE BURROW HIS SENIOR YEAR BETWEEN HIS FLORIDA GATORS & BURROW’S LSU TIGERS..I WANTED US TO BE ABLE TO DRAFT BAKER MAYFIELD WHEN HE 1ST CAME OUT,BUT, OF COURSE WE WERE IN NO POSITION TO DO SO..I’VE BEEN A PROUD GATORS FAN SINCE 1968 WHEN I 1ST STARTED WATCHING FOOTBALL & A BUCCANEERS FAN SINCE THEIR INCEPTION IN 1974 & THEIR 1ST SEASON IN 1976..I ADMIRED KYLE’S COOL,CALM & COLLECTED DEMEANER WHEN HE WAS OUR QUARTERBACK AT FLORIDA..NOTHING SEEMED TO RATTLE HIM..HIS ACCURACY WAS PHENOMENAL ( THAT VICTORY OVER GEORGIA THAT SENIOR YEAR WAS A PRECISION PASSING WORK OF ART !..IT’S GOING TO BE A GOOD COMPETITION FROM START TO FINISH & MAY THE BEST MAN WIN !..( I DO PREFER A 6′ 5″ QUARTERBACK OVER A 6’1″ QUARTERBACK ANYDAY THOUGH..I’M JUST SAYIN’…LET’S GO BUC”S !..& BY THE WAY, SIGN JOHN JOHNSON TO PLAY THAT NICKEL SPOT WHILE YOUR AT IT BUC”S !

  43. Buc1987 Says:

Whatever CAPSLOCKTOMMY just said (no I didn’t read it)is fine by me cause he must really mean that shyte!

  44. David Says:

Yesterday Todd Bowles said that Trask and Baker are getting first team reps every other day. According to some reporters that is not true. Baker received first team reps two days in a row. Todd B. also said yesterday he wants a qb with moxie which is the same world he used to describe Baker coming out of the college. That is a clear indication that this is not a true competition and Todd B. already penciled Baker as his day one qb. This is so depressing for a second round pick by a club that has horrible record drafting and training qb’s.

  45. Joe Says:

According to some reporters that is not true.

The practices Joe has witnessed Baker Mayfield is getting the majority of snaps, maybe 70 percent, for the first 90 minutes. In the final 30 minutes of practice, Kyle Trask and Mayfield may split the snaps evenly, or Trask is getting 60 percent of the snaps (Joe hasn’t been motivated to log each and ever snap of the quarterbacks.)

  46. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Been saying this for 2 1/2 years. It was clear that Trask wasn’t being developed.

The two practice fields thing was okay I suppose, in the first year for Trask, but he should have had time on the main field his second year.

On top of not playing with ones…he didn’t get couched up by the main coaches either.

Brady gave him more one on one time than any of the coaches.

And yet…people said he should have done more.

  47. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Buc1987 Says
    “Whatever CAPSLOCKTOMMY just said… “And

Omg, bro. Let it be. He does it because he is visual impaired.

  48. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

As to Trask, I believe the only way Bowles will start him is if Bowles is left no other choice:

    1) if Baker is injured.
    2) if Baker is suspended for some reason.
    3) if Baker koses so many games that Licht and the Glazers force the change

  49. garro Says:

    Growth Stunted?
Something to bear in mind in the Bucs miserable QB history is Steve Young. After leaving the Bucs he turned out pretty good. Labeled a bust here. My point is that Young didn’t yet have the coaching to be successful in the NFL…. Just as important is he didn’t have any semblance of a good team around him. Leeman Bennett 3-16 San Francisco Bill Walsh 91-33.

So when you are rating the Bucs QBs it’s important to take more into consideration than just the QB stats. We have had some crap teams these horrible QBs played with and some crap coaching. Young also got to watch legend Montana for a while before starting In San Francisco. Trask has been afforded that luxury here. But I have doubts about Brady teaching him much.

Trask has a shot with some decent pieces around him and the benefit of sitting behind a legend. Coaching? BA? Bowles? Canales? Jury is out on Bowles and Canales. We know BA can coach. (Anybody spot BA in camp yet?)
The O line makes or breaks QBs…Period! End of sentence! We saw firsthand what a bad one did to a Legend last year! This O line worries me. Only one guy playing in his position from last year. Goedeke and the rookie Mauch are huge question marks.

Better be working overtime to get everyone coached up with this new offense.

    Go Bucs!

  51. gotbbucs Says:

They should have known exactly how it was going to play out with Brady at QB1 and bringing in a rookie QB. If they didn’t, then they were pretty ignorant. Brady historically had zero interest in having a rookie QB anywhere near him. The Patriots tried it two or three times in his time there.

  52. gotbbucs Says:

I have no idea if Trask the player was a wasted pick, but I think using a 2nd round pick at that time on a QB was a waste of time and resources.
You can’t develop a QB from the bench with a clip board in his hand, and you sure as hell can’t develop a QB from the inactive list. They need to be on the field taking lumps and learning in real time.

  53. Dooley Says:

    @Cricket

    Thanks bud

  54. garro Says:

“Kyle has always been that kind of slow, steady developer in high school and in college. And I think this follows in line with exactly that. I see it more as a learning year.

“I don’t see him competing with Gabbert this year. He could do it but all the odds are stacked against you. It is hard enough to get enough Gabbert reps. We will prepare Gabbert as No. 2. I see Gabbert being the backup and Kyle being a developmental guy.”

This is what everybody is refering to and misrepresenting as … Trask is a slow learner and could not beat out Gabbert.

  55. realistic-optimistic Says:

I wish we the fans had more real information about what exactly pinned Trask to 3rd-string. My sense is that Brady demanded a veteran backup. If this the case, the coaching staff should be ashamed of themselves. You can’t let a 45 year old QB with one foot out the door make demands like that unless he’s still dominating, and he was definitely not dominating last year.

The team spent pretty significant draft capital to acquire Trask. How do you invest a 2nd round pick on a QB and not give him reps. It’s bizarre.

  56. Cobraboy Says:

Casuals: Draft a young QB and don’t rush his development, let him sit a couple of years like Aaron Rogers. Be patient.

Also Casuals: Trask didn’t start right away so he’s a bust.

  57. bucabubba Says:

garro: “Kyle has always been that kind of slow, steady developer.”

Whoever said that is quite wrong. Kyle was at UF only 4 seasons: 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020. He won the starting job his second season, 2018, by beating out the more highly rated, and hyped, Feleipe Franks (now with the Falcons). An injury sidelined him for part of that 2018 season and then in 2019 and 2020 he was absolutely lights out, setting countless SEC passing records. He then had a fifth year of eligibility available to him (due to the COVID pandemic) but he turned that down an entered the 2021 draft. Winning the starting job 3 of his 4 years at UF is hardly “slow, steady development”.

  58. bucabubba Says:

gotbbucs Says: “”Brady historically had zero interest in having a rookie QB anywhere near him.”

And the reason for that is Tom Brady himself, a young inexperienced 6th round draft pick riding the pine at New England behind Drew Bledsoe who got to play only when Bledsoe got injured. And the rest is history. Brady didn’t want to ever be Bledsoe.

  59. Fred McNeil Says:

    Tom Bradys lingering effect……

  61. Brandon Says:

Here’s what Brady nut kissers don’t understand. If Gabbert was forced to come in for Brady last season, our offense would have been better. Brady was that bad last season. At least Gabbert would have pushed the ball down the field and kept defenses honest and ran the called plays and not audible every play to a smoke screen or other pass at or behind the line of scrimmage.

  62. BuckeyeBuck Says:

You’re gonna see a better version of Trask this year. More reps with the 1’s, more responsibility, and a veteran QB who will work with him at the same time as they compete. W/E Mayfield’s faults are, a cold heart isn’t one of them

  63. TOMMY MORDUE Says:

I, PERSONALLY WOULD NOT BE SURPRISED AT EITHER OF THE QUARTERBACK’S WIN THIS COMPETITION..BOTH ARE WINNERS IN MY BOOK & WANTED THE BUCCANEERS TO DRAFT EACH IN THEIR RESPECTIVE DRAFT YEARS..( IN MY OPINION WE HAVE 2 STARTING QUARTERBACK’S BATTLING FOR ONE JOB ) I’VE BEEN VERY IMPRESSED BY EACH OF THEM SINCE THEY WERE ROOKIES, THE DIFFERENCE IS BAKER WAS A FORMER #1 OVERALL PICK & WAS ABLE TO PLAY AS A STARTER FROM THE VERY BEGINNING OF HIS PRO CAREER, WHILE TRASK HAS HAD TO BYE HIS TIME BEHIND THE GOAT & ANOTHER FORMER 1ST ROUND PICK ( EVEN THOUGH HIS STATS PROVED HE WAS A PERENNIAL LOSER AS A STARTER DURING HIS CAREER ) UNLOADING HIM ( ULTIMATELY TO THE K.C.CHIEFS ) WAS A TERRIFIC MOVE, ULTIMATELY ALLOWING US TO ( FINALLY ! ! ! )GIVE KYLE TRASK HIS WELL DESERVED CHANCE IN THIS LEAGUE ! I LIKE THEM BOTH VERY MUCH..THAT BEING SAID I’M ROOTING FOR KYLE TRASK TO WIN THE JOB, EVEN THOUGH I THINK, IF IT’S A CLOSE COMPETITION, BAKER WILL BE NAMED THE STARTER FOLLOWING THE LAST PRE-SEASON GAME..BASED ON HIS “MOXIE” & EXPERIENCE..BOTH CAN & WILL BE STARTERS IN THIS LEAGUE..I JUST HOPE KYLE TRASK GETS AN EXTENDED CONTRACT & STARTS FOR US ONE DAY..

  64. Swampy Says:

Kurt Warner was rejected more often than Mayfield. I get it, unlikely to happen for us. It would be like getting hit by lightning. But you’re more likely to get hit by lightning in Florida than anywhere else. Start a rookie and you expect a losing record. Take a chance on the former top pick and the outcome could be great…. or not. Oh and Johnny Unitas was released by the Steelers.
