Herm Edwards Giddy Over Bucs Defense

Former Bucs secondary coach and NFL head coach Herm Edwards was chatty last night about the Bucs as he Twittered the night away.
In fact, Herm was in such a good mood, he believes the Bucs have a shot at a solid defense this season.

Joe’s not so sure about that. Doesn’t Herm know that rookie defensive tackles struggle? Joe’s been over this too many times to count.
Keeping on the defensive theme, the subject in particular turned to Aqib Talib, the gifted cornerback many believe is on the verge of stardom. While Talib may have some off-field issues, Herm believes victories will help cure Talib of whatever demons he fights away from One Buc Palace.

This is a puzzling take. Does Herm believe the Bucs’ woeful season last year directly contributed to Talib’s, um, incidents? Or is Herm insinuating that Talib wasn’t playing good defense, and that drove Talib off the edge away from football?

Why do we (Joe buc) and ESPN give a rats ass what Herm Edwards has to say? This guy has not accomplished anything but it seems everyone hangs on his every word. Herm seems like a nice guy but why do print every comment he says?

But is this a 3-13 team? I know, I know . . . until they start winning, that is all we have to go on. I know that is the canned response, but is it reasonable to consider this team — with a full offseason, settled (but young) QB, lots of new talent (albeit young), to be the same team that fired two coordinators etc? Or, is it more reasonable to think of this team as the team that played reasonably well down the stretch? Maybe its reasonable to think of this teams as an improved version of that “down the stretch” team.
How about this? Maybe this team is none of those things Every team starts of 0-0, right? Plenty of reasons to be skeptical of the organization, but there has not even been a single play yet so how could this team be a 3-13 team? Not a single play and the sky is already falling?

Calico called it! Talib isn’t going to get noticed if the team does poorly, especially if the defense isn’t playing well. And no Joe, the team is 0-0 right now. 3- 13 was last year. There has been some changes. Enough to improve dramatically? We’ll see! But hope blooms eternal( except in these post!)

The first regular season game will be a good test to see if the Bucs have progressed; stayed the same; or gotten worse (God forbid) Even a decent team should handle the Browns at home in the season opener. If they can’t do that then we will know the sky is probably falling. On the other hand if we can win 2 out of 3 to start the year then we know they’ve at least made some improvements.

First of all I thnk Talib is good but he still has alot to prove I think we all can agree TO has lost a step butthat same TO abused Talib one was a drop the other was a TD . Just my opinoin on Herm Edwards I thnk he is always talking about the Bucs cause he wants a coaching job he is the guy that gave Morris his start in the NFL with the Jets.

Look, Joe wants the Bucs to win as much as anyone. Joe’s more of a burning bush kinda guy than a wishful thinker, his lustful overtures to Rachel Watson notwithstanding.
As Bill Parcells once said, you are what you are. The Bucs are a 3-13 team until proven otherwise.
As far as Joe being negative, Joe’s getting weary of this because if anyone actually reads Joe that person knows that charge is caca. Don’t blame Joe for “negative” stories. Blame the source: a team that lost 13 of 16 games last year, some of which were downright frightening.

But its just twitter, and Joe needs a story.
Anyway, Herm said the bucs defense will do well IF the DTs play well. No duh!
Guess what, and you are more than welcome to quote Javier on this one Joe:
1) The Bucs offense will do well if Josh Freeman can unlock his intagibles and throw more touchdown passes than interceptions.
2) The raw talent of Mike Williams gives him the potential to become a play maker, so long as he can get open and make catches in coverage.
3) A. Benn’s percise route running ability and size gives him the tools he needs to make himself a great target for Freeman, just as long he is able to release from the bump in runs in the NFL.
4) Raheem Morris has the opportunity to have a winning season, but he is going to need points from the offense, turnovers from the defense and success on special teams that can provide advantageous field position.
5) Josh Freeman might possibly be a pro bowl QB in 2010, but he will first need help up front, in both pass blocking but also run blocking, while also relying on an above average and consistent running game. Also, in order for Josh to realize his pro bowl season, he will need his WRs to get open, Josh will nees to be able to see them (Josh will need superb vision) and he will consequently be required to thread the needle. And this will have to all come together with a little luck from above, the refs and the teams defenses being out of position and falling down (aka Tampa’s 2009 secondary) for all this to come into play. As you see, just a handful of things need tk happen and Josh Freeman will be on his way to his first Pro Bowl season as a Tampa Bay Buccaneer!

Maybe head coaching did not work out for him, but he certainly is a good coach. I wonder if Raheem and Herm could work together ?

Take your head out of Raheem’s arse, capt.Tim. If Joe wasn’t a Bucs fan there would be no JoeBucsFan. What do expect him to be with his team at 3-13 and headed in the same sinking direction? He has certainly been less vocal than most of us that are sickened by this mess team Glazer has put our team in with the amateur head coach!

I think it’s obvious that he was referring to the fact that Talib would have a much better shot of making the Pro Bowl if the team was performing well and winning games. And I agree, after all, we all know all the Pro Bowl is is a popularity contest.

If anything, Raheem should be working for Herm Edwards.

If the Glazers hired Herm Edwards last year as the HC, he definitely would not have made Raheem his defensive coordinator, and you can take that one to the bank.
And that my friends is what makes the Raheem Morris elevation to the head coach echelon so appalling. Bad spelling and all. (Wimauma’s schools are exactly the greatest on earth 🙂
