ChatGPT Selects Most Overrated Bucs Players
May 19th, 2023Is SkyNet here?
Artificial intelligence (AI) is all the rage and if you listen to the doom and gloomers, we will all be out of jobs in the future.
Well, as the late, great “Big Dog” Steve Duemig, the dean of Tampa Bay sports radio would say, “Bulls(p)it!”
You think an AI bot can write like Joe? Analyze like Joe? Lust over Rachael Watson like Joe? Constantly beg for Tristan Wirfs stay at right tackle, demand the Bucs get a friggin’ pass rusher?
Ha!
So yesterday Joe decided to have some fun. Inspired by a story where ChatGPT picked the most overrated athletes in Cleveland sports history, Joe decided to ask ChatGPT for the most overrated Bucs players. Joe found out wording changes of the question generates a different answer from the bot.
So here is the first response Joe got about overrated Bucs.
As an AI language model, I don’t have personal opinions or preferences. However, I can provide you with some players who have been mentioned by some people as potentially overrated on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. It’s important to note that opinions on player performance can vary, and what one person considers overrated, another may not. Here are a few players who have garnered mixed opinions:
Jameis Winston (former Buccaneers quarterback): During his time with the Buccaneers, Winston had moments of brilliance but also struggled with turnovers and inconsistency. Some critics argue that his high interception rate and inconsistent play made him overrated.
Vernon Hargreaves III (former Buccaneers cornerback): Hargreaves was a first-round pick in the 2016 NFL Draft but failed to live up to expectations. His performances were inconsistent, and he struggled with injuries, leading to questions about his effectiveness as a starting cornerback.
Roberto Aguayo (former Buccaneers kicker): Aguayo was selected in the second round of the 2016 NFL Draft as a highly touted kicker. However, he struggled in his rookie season, missing several crucial kicks. His lackluster performance led to questions about whether he was overrated coming out of college.
DeSean Jackson (former Buccaneers wide receiver): Jackson had a successful career overall, but his time with the Buccaneers was marked by inconsistent play and injury issues. Some critics argued that his impact on the field did not live up to the hype surrounding his signing.
Anyone catch that each of these players came during the Lost Decade?
Then Joe asked ChatGPT the same question worded differently. This list was longer but the four aforementioned players were also listed.
In addition, ChatGPT added Gerald McCoy (what, was Ian Beckles behind the curtain?), Doug Martin, Hall of Fame cornerback Darrelle Revis and Michael “Ghost” Johnson.
Again, those players also played for the Bucs during the Lost Decade.
Joe also tried to pry from ChatGPT what it thinks of Todd Bowles as Bucs head coach. The response Joe got was all about Bowles as a defensive coordinator and the bot admitted, it didn’t have intel on what Bowles has done since December 2021.
Is that a coincidence or something?

Chat Gipitty as I like to call it is basically just culling the web. I would be interested in knowing if it culled Tweets and forums as well or just HTML pages. Most likely it scrapes all of the above and more and uses sentiment analysis.

HC/DC Bowles. Even the Bot can’t figure that out.

Looks like a lot of recency bias since there probably isn’t much online data about the Bucs pre-internet age. Alvin Harper has to be on an all time Bucs overrated list. Maybe Barrett Ruud too? Point being, where is anyone from before the lost decade? Cool idea for an article tho!

ChatGPT= BAD NEWS
May 19th, 2023 at 6:30 am
FYI Joe
ChatGPT only has knowledge of the real world up to 2021. Don’t expect full knowledge of the Bucs history of players.

Garbage in, garbage out.
May 19th, 2023 at 7:06 am
Lt Dan would add Noah Spence to that list.

TBBF doesn’t need AI to figure those overrated players out……

everyone needs to understand chat GPT is in beta for the most part. if you ask it to give you a 2000 word essay on Doctor who, it doesn’t even know who the current actor is to play the part. Chat GPT has only been loaded with data up to 2020.
Chat GPT is an automatic door, its a bar code scanner, its a robot that welds fenders on cars.
TECH does take jobs away, but then the tech creates jobs too, to create the tech, and work on it. for every scoreboard operator who was replaced by a digital readout, there are people who design the readouts, people who program them, people who sale them, people who ship them, people who answer questions about them, etc. its a big picture

Well and rightly said, nick.

Heck no it cant write like Joe. Now as far as some of the national guys go, that’s a different story. Furby technology couldve replaced some of those drones.
May 19th, 2023 at 8:28 am
The overrated Bucs list should start an end with Kimono McCrybaby.
May 19th, 2023 at 8:37 am
Interestingly enough Joe, if it has access to your free archives, from what I understand, it should be able to do a pretty good job of mimicking your voice. At least from the stories I’ve heard. In fact, one of our posters here, who goes by a weirdly homoerotic moniker, has been dropping chat, GPT generated Buc poems and song lyrics recently. Yes, he’s a weirdo. But this sounds like a project right up his alley.

I use ChatGPT on a daily basis. It’s not very good for questions like these but this was a fun read. Later on I’m going to try having ChatGPT write an article on the Bucs draft “in the style of JoeBucsFan.com” and see what it spits out. That’s always fun.

Computer…how many games will the Headcoachless Bucs win.
May 19th, 2023 at 9:43 am
None of those guys were overrated because they were all pretty terrible at the time and everyone could see that.
May 19th, 2023 at 10:16 am
Oh that list goes WAY back …
May 19th, 2023 at 10:29 am
Lmao Joe. I always love a good SkyNet reference.

ChatGPT is an idiot. Ask it a factual question, and you’ll find it is usually wrong. Pretty much useless.
As for over-rated, no mention of Booker Reese???

Sounds more like a glorified google searcher.

None of those guys except DeSean were overrated. Winston wasn’t great, we know what he was… a competitor, a turnover machine, a sometimes dunce. Michael Johnson did nothing for us… you wanna talk overrated? How about these eight…
RB Cadillac Williams – first three games of his career were outstanding… honestly was never more than average after that. Was beaten out by undrafted bench warmer Earnest Graham BEFORE he got hurt… not after. Williams was average and our fans still worship him.
FB Mike Alstott – yep, blasphemous for sure… how dare anyone criticize the GOAT FB? Simply put, beyond a run or two per game at most, he wasn’t great. FBs are supposed to block… Alstott wasn’t much of a blocker until Gruden arrived. Then he was average. I’m not sure he EVER averaged FOUR yards a carry in any season. The dude was the FB version of Barry Sanders… great highlights, not so good the rest of the time. He fumbled too much, he ONLY carried the ball in his right hand so didn’t run well to his left, below average blocker for most of his career, no 1000 yard seasons, no seasons with FOUR ypc…. did I like him? Yes Was he great? Not close
RB Leonard Fournette – Playoff Lenny had a great 2020 playoff run, he was okay in 2021, and terrible in all but the opener in 2022. Fournette’s legs almost always went dead on contact as he launched himself into defenders, he had decent hands but no speed or agility to create in space or run real patterns, he had NO AGILITY and took forever to gather himself when he saw a hole and accelerate, very little speed when he did finally break free, and finally … almost never broke tackles. Lenny vs a CB in the open field… CB always won.
QB Tom Brady 2022 version – dude was no less than half the reason the offense stunk so bad in 2022. Gone was the No Risk it, No Biscuit offense from the past. Instead it was Brady’s catch and throw at or close to the line of scrimmage for the first three quarters of games. Don’t blame the line… Brady’s 2.9% sack percentage led the league and was second lowest of his career. Don’t blame (totally) Leftwich, Brady could have audibled out of any play and into a better one anytime he wanted. And don’t blame the running game, Brady did the running game no favors by constantly throwing short and never testing defenses deep and forcing the safeties back. Last year there were a ton of things wrong with the offense, but none more so than the balls Brady lost in the divorce.
LB Barrett Ruud – dude was a tackling machine… five yards down the field. All we heard about was how he would make all the tackles… all I saw was a dude slow to read and react and arrive and making tackles on successful running plays. He wasn’t known as a good coverage player… but honestly, pass coverage was his strength.
Dexter Jackson – was he highly rated? Never by me. The Raiders incorrectly thought so. They liked CB Larry Brown too after he won Super Bowl MVP. They were wrong about Jackson too.
Gerald McCoy – big accolades, decent numbers, I don’t care that he was soft. I care that he was never there to make a play when it was needed. Does he have a signature play? Were we ever even decent on defense when he was here? I don’t hate him… he just isn’t great or really good. He was pretty good.
Darrelle Revis – one season, he was hurt, it was an awful trade. You give up a 1st and 3rd and then turn around and pay over free agent market value to a dude coming off a torn ACL? That’s just stupid. You don’t give up premium draft capital AND pay top dollar for players, that’s double payment and stupid… even if the guy is healthy.
May 19th, 2023 at 11:34 am
Why do you people keep listing Booker Reese? He isn’t overrated… he’s unrated. He was awful, we know he was awful, he played awful, he was a huge bust. I’m not sure you guys understand being “overrated” means. Being a bust and being overrated are two different things. Reese wasn’t even overrated coming out of college. He wasn’t expected by anyone to be picked where he was and there’s a lengthy story about it.
Whomever listed Adrian Clayborn, Gaines Adams… yes. Overrated. Boy Dog and 24 year old rookie Adams were still seen as good players while they were stinking up the field for the Bucs… let me add another name. Booger McFarland… good player, far from great. We won the Super Bowl WITHOUT him in the lineup… Chuck D’Arby anyone?
May 19th, 2023 at 11:44 am
GMC shouldn’t be on the list
May 19th, 2023 at 12:13 pm
Larry Brackins is my pick!

Please ask about Durable Donnie

Well the AI models info stops in 2021 – also it’s always going to soft pedal its responses unless you put the boot to it and force it to stop with the generic nonsense.
Also how in the world would Winston be on the overrated list? That list is just a list of who was bashed the most. In any case the list should have been, Ryan Smith, Chris Conte and, I’m going to say it, Vita Vea.
Vita Vea is a GREAT player, but he’s only a part time player, and yet people talk about him like he’s the glue of the defense. You can’t be the glue of anything if you’re off the field half the time because you’re out of shape Vita CAN be an all-time great player if he just lost some weight so he didn’t have to come off the field every time an opponent marches down to the Bucs 5 yard line, and Vita is too winded to be out there on the goalline stands.

I asked ChatGPT who the most overrated football announcer is, and remarkably it came up with this response…
————-
In the world of football’s broadcast throne,
Chris Meyers’ name has widely grown.
Yet some argue he’s overrated, you see,
While DoooshLaRue remains a devotee.
Meyers, they say, has a magnetic charm,
But his analysis can sometimes disarm.
Still, DoooshLaRue’s heart remains unfazed,
With Meyers’ voice, his passion blazed.
Opinions clash like rival teams collide,
But let us celebrate football’s wide stride.
DoooshLaRue, your loyalty stands tall,
As we honor the game that enthralls us all.

Ugh, I’m so sick of ChatGPT already (and I work with tons of clients in the AI field)
