Vacation Will Continue For Donald Penn
July 27th, 2010It’s Tuesday morning. In four days the Bucs will be sweating in the heat of a Florida summer sun at One Buc Palace and football season in the Tampa Bay area will unofficially be underway.
And Donald Penn will not be there.
The Bucs stud offensive left tackle, embroiled in a contract dispute with the Bucs, sat out all offseson workouts and the man who arguably was the Bucs best player last season may not show up for some time.
That’s the word from eye-RAH! Kaufman of the Tampa Tribune as he Twittered a cautionary tale on the TBO Bucs Twitter feed that Penn won’t be around for some weeks.
Four days until players report and the Bucs have to be resigned to the likelihood that Donald Penn won’t be showing up for duty.
Frankly, Joe doesn’t expect Penn to show up either. Oh, he will return to the Bucs in time to play the opening game. Penn just won’t show up for two-a-days.
Joe can’t really say he blames Penn.

As far as im concerned he can stay home. I wish we didnt need him as much as i know we do. I think he needs to man up play for his tender and then he can test free agency or sign his next contract with us next year. Hes good and all but he has some issues. i dont blame Tampa for making him prove himself.

The NFL needs to make it so players and franchises have no choise but to fulfill their contracts. Give incentives for those who deserve them and be done with it. If you dont think they are giving you enough money then don’t sign your contract, but if you do sign atleast man up and fulfill your obligation.
July 27th, 2010 at 12:49 pm
3 million+ reasons to hold up for him to see Joe, come on man you know he wants to be here(or so we hear him say) and if it weren’t for the CBA he would already have his contract,(again so we hear him say)
Time to put your money where your mouth is Penn… Seems to me we all want him here we don’t like it that he has not gotten his big new contract(yet) but if he comes in say the last week before the seasons starts, how much time and practice will he have with the Oline? Penn has not been at the OTA’s not at the mini-camps or by then training camp. Will he be in top form? or will he not be ? What happens if he comes in and gets injured? The life of a lineman Offense or Defense is difficult to say the least. Don’t you really think he needs to have time to get acclimated to getting pounded on by other 300 lbs line_men?
I can and do understand this is a business and Penn is a good player who wants his pay to increase. And as a business you look at his (body) of work the last few seasons. The ballooning up in weight and not heeding requirements from trainers and coaching staff causes the ownership to question not his play, but his commitment.
To show that you have that commitment you need to be out in the sun with your teammates putting in the blood sweat and tears. On time not right before the season starts.
How comfortable will we bee that first game with Penn not having had any practice and having little to no unity with the offense.
This all stinks any way you look at it…..
July 27th, 2010 at 2:08 pm
Yup, it stinks! Penn is a great Left Tackle, don’t kid yourselves. Last year, he was probably the highest ranked player on the team- fat or not! I understand why they haven’t signed him, but I still think they should! He will come in right at the end of Preseason, and he will still be able to go do his job well. Where it hurts us, is that he’s not going to develop any chemistry with Vincent, or the rest of the line. We’ll know soon, but the Bucs ate really starting to feel good about Dotson. He is showing amazing agility for a 6’8″ guy. They liked what they saw when he played last year. The question they have is can he hold up for the entire game. If he looks good preseason, Penn might be our LT

RT
July 27th, 2010 at 2:32 pm
If anyone other than Donald Penn lines up at LT in that Cleveland game (barring injury), someone needs to put Mr. Dominik in an insane asylum.
July 27th, 2010 at 2:35 pm
I say he reports after the 2nd preseason game to get in football shape, get some practices and games under his belt.
July 27th, 2010 at 2:55 pm
It’s part of the business.. He’s playing at his prime and wants to be compensated for it. And I think he deserves it.. We need him, Josh Freeman needs him… Hopefully, he’s on the field soon or this IS going to be a long year..
July 27th, 2010 at 3:08 pm
They better not turn to Demar Dotson if Penn doesn’t show up!! I can’t believe Raheem would be that nuts! Freeman will be WORSE this year if this happens.
July 27th, 2010 at 3:18 pm
Wow, Coach Eric has degreed that Penn and Penn alone shall play LT for the Bucs! Let us bow our heads, and say thanks for this commandment of wisdom from on high!! Listen peaches, Dotson played Tackle in 5 games last year. He didn’t give up a sack! He looked good, as a matter of fact! The world didn’t stop spinning or nothing. I hate to argue with a man of vast coaching experience, but if the REAL coaches of the team( Raheem and Pete) think Dotson is ready, then he’s ready! I thought he was going to put Trueblood on the bench this year anyway. Now they think Penn may shift to RT. If it makes the Line better- good! And why do you care anyway? You’ve already said that Coach Morris is a joke, and the Bucs won’t win 5 games! If that’s the case, you should be thrilled if Dotson fails! It will futher along your true agenda of discrediting Raheem Morris!
July 27th, 2010 at 3:26 pm
Uh oh! Now Coach Patrick has also deemed That Dotson starting is “nuts”! With the years these guys have spent as Head coaches in The NFL, it’s gotta be true! I’m running over ta One Buc Place right now, to tell’em to stop this Insanity! Again, Patrick- you also gleefully predict the team will suck this year, no matter what we do! Why do you care who starts at LT? Didn’t you say Freeman wasn’t an NFL caliber QB. Then all the blocking in the world won’t matter. They might as well sack him, before he throws an interception- right?
July 27th, 2010 at 3:30 pm
You two guys aren’t starting ta come around, are you? You’re not turning out to be Closet Buc fans are you? Can’t imagine you two Rah rahing it up with JimBuc! I don’t think I could take it! I’d turn into a hater, just due to the shock of it all
July 27th, 2010 at 4:08 pm
@Capt.Tim
Ok Capt.Tim that’s enough. Seriously, you’re full of s***. You’re posts are not funny like you think they are and if you had comedy show on T.V, I’m certain it would be cancelled after the first show. You stink!!
And you’re actually ok with Dotson starting and risking Freeman’s future?? When he himself admits he’s not a starting left tackle, we’ve got a problem! If Lebron James was going to be our LT, you would be satisfied also!!!
July 27th, 2010 at 4:13 pm
Donald Penn will come to camp . He is happier than ever. He loves the direction of the Bucs, and he loves Mark Dumbinik. He’d even play for FREE if the Glazers let him.
How do I know ?? Because JimBuc said so .
July 27th, 2010 at 4:14 pm
Really, I don’t need to be funny! That’s alot of hilarious comedians already posting here! They just don’t realize it! I personally would have theme music and drum rolls attached to every post you’ve done! I don’t think you have any idea how much laughter you bring into the rest of our lives !!:)
July 27th, 2010 at 4:58 pm
I guess I don’t understand the double standard. Penn needs to honor his contract but if the suits decide to cut him, the team doesn’t need to honor their end? If his only avenue to get the $$$ he thinks he deserves is to hold out, more power to him. His risk….. at a big reward if he’s right. Certainly if he has a career ending injury, he’s living on his tender $$$ forever, nothing else is coming.
July 27th, 2010 at 5:21 pm
Mush Face — As usual making stuff up. If all else fails, just lie. 🙂
First, I said that Penn would play, not that he would or would not come to camp. Second, I did not say that Penn loves the direction of the Bucs, PENN SAID HE LOVED THE DIRECTION OF THE BUCS and he also applauded the draft picks and said he was EXCITED about playing THIS YEAR. If you would pull your head out of your own arse and read a little bit you would know that.
Of course, the other stuff you post is pure useless drivel, as usual. Carry on, Mush Face, carry on . . .
July 27th, 2010 at 5:37 pm
Oh yes he’s sooooooo excited!!! Who wouldn’t be excited to work for a fraction of thier worth , and for a boss that calls you a “fat-ass” ???
…so exited he’s going to be a no-show.
Carry on , King of the Kool-aid , carry on . We’ll see who’s right soon enough after this team stinks up the league AGAIN, and these two morons get fired at the end of the year.
July 27th, 2010 at 8:49 pm
Mush face . . “excited” was Penn’s word choice, not mine. If you don’t believe Penn then you are even more of a hopeless turd than even I thought you were
July 27th, 2010 at 8:56 pm
Just for clarity for a couple of you. Penn is NOT under contract. He fulfilled his contract, and is a restricted free agent. As agreed to by the owners and the players union, in non collective bargaining agreement years , teams offer “tender” sort of a contract extension, until a collective bargaining agreement is reached. At that time new contracts are negotiated. The Owners CAN still do new contracts, but almost uniformly do not, prefering to see the guidelines/ salary caps set forth in the new CBA. Penn’s tender is 3 million dollars(aprox)

@Radio Mushmouth
Maybe others won’t say it, but I will. Penn WILL show up at Training Camp. Maybe not the first or second day, or the first week, but he WILL be there. Now, you can hurl insults all you want, I don’t really care. I won’t be drawn into a debate like others have been.
I say what I think, and until I change my mind, I stick with it. I don’t hold it against otehrs for not agreeing. After all, it takes some people time to find out I am so incredibly accurate 1% of the time 😉
July 27th, 2010 at 9:48 pm
I hope Penn makes it to camp and plays, but if not, I’m sick of hearing about it.
July 27th, 2010 at 10:28 pm
WHen I’m excited to about something , I usually show up and participate in it…
For Example ; when JimBuc hears a new Flavor of Kool-Aid jut came out , I’m sure he rushes to the grocery store and buys it , and pours it down his stupid throat the second he gets home.
But in JimBuc’s bizarro world of delusion , I suppose one could show excitement about a team by refusing to play with them…
July 28th, 2010 at 12:57 am
Mush Face — you are stupider than you type. The reason I mentioned that Penn sais he was “excited” about the team and this season is because it is further proof that he will “show up and participate.”
Geesh . . .
July 28th, 2010 at 7:14 am
HAHA! You are an idiot , JimBuc.
July 28th, 2010 at 7:48 am
MushFace, thanks for illustrating the point so well.
July 28th, 2010 at 10:12 am
Radio please STFU. What is so hard to understand? It is a fact that Penn said those things, he is quoted as such. All indications are that he will play, the only discussion is when he will show up for camp.
Gaining 40 lbs during the season while being a professional athelete is inexcusable. Of course a smart GM would want to make sure of his commitment.
I hope he comes in and the team kicks ass so we can banish your bitch ass off this site forever! What will you say when we win?
July 28th, 2010 at 10:14 am
JimBuc,
Dont even dignify this fool with responses. When you provide your side of an argument and he responds by making kool-aid metaphores, you’ve won!
July 28th, 2010 at 10:31 am
Yup, Gary, right as usual! JimBuc is the clear cut winner! Of course, Mushforbrains is stand out “slow”, even on the slow squad! JimBuc, I.’ve said it before, but I really admire your patience in explaining the obvious to the oblivious! I don’t know how you can explain things over and over to some of the guys, who really don’t understand anything beyond their mancrushes for Chucky! They ought to put your name up on the “Ring Of Fame”. Truly the Bucs have no greater Defender! – that said- don’t start with me on soccer, lol!
July 28th, 2010 at 4:34 pm
It’s nice to see the 3 stooges are all on the same page ( Tim , Jim , and Gary)
We will all find out who the real idiots are at the end of this season, won’t we ??
