Bucs Use Final Sixth-Round Pick On Linebacker José Ramírez
April 29th, 2023It seems the 2023 NFL Draft is over for our beloved Tampa Bay Buccaneers. And it ended where it started, with a defensive pick.
The Bucs drafted Eastern Michigan linebacker José Ramírez with their third sixth-round pick of the day. (Their seventh-rounder is gone.)
Ramírez had a breakout season last year with 19 1/2 tackles for loss and a 12-sack season. He stands 6-2, 242 pounds and isn’t exceptionally fast, but seems to play faster than his 40-yard-dash time.
Joe can’t see Ramírez as a candidate to play inside linebacker, especially after the Bucs picked one in SirVocea Dennis midway through Round 5. He’s more of an edge rusher, and you never know when it comes to edge rushers developing over time. Bucs sacks king Shaq Barrett entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent.
Eastern Michigan’s Jose Ramirez fits the profile of a good wide 9 edge rusher. Impressive speed and that bend! pic.twitter.com/TwHazyKPvt

Wish he would stop killing my Rays, he’s a hitting machine every time we play the Guardians
April 29th, 2023 at 4:58 pm
Jememiah just said he loves this kid. Said he would be happy taking him in Rd 3. Has all the tools.
April 29th, 2023 at 4:59 pm
His comp is Shaq Barrett
April 29th, 2023 at 4:59 pm
Pretty productive in that last year at Eastern Michigan in 12 games:
66 tackles
19.5 TFL
12 sacks
2 PD
2 FF
His 6.95-second three-cone and 4.30 short shuttle were No. 1 among all edge rushers at the combine.

Couldn’t find ANY YouTube vids on this guy. ST’s?
April 29th, 2023 at 5:01 pm
Go watch a video on YouTube by Brett Coleman where he talks about the best linebackers in the draft. He was very high on this guy and it almost sounded like he was in the third tier of linebackers up there with Yaya. He had a lot of great things to say about him. I think this was a home run pick especially in round 6
April 29th, 2023 at 5:01 pm
Good pick my only concern is we already picked a OLB in yaya
April 29th, 2023 at 5:01 pm
From what I’ve read, his straight line speed isn’t anything special, however his short area quickness and agility / explosive numbers are elite, and for an edge rusher, that is more important anyways. I believe I read his shuttle was the best in the draft at edge – I could be wrong, so don’t hold me to it.
But he’s undersized, short arms, underweight – that’s why he slipped. But, again, as a lottery ticket late in the draft, I have zero issues. Sounds like the potential to be an outstanding special teams player at worst.
Overall I really like this draft. Only the TE, who is slow, doesn’t add speed and/or quickness to the team. I like going smaller and faster on defense, and just more makes me think Licht is getting the team ready for the next coach who will run a 4-3, maybe even bring back the Tampa 2.

Geno,
6.95 3-cone is FAST, and fantastic. At the least, a superb athlete.
April 29th, 2023 at 5:03 pm
Added 3 disruptors to the mix in Kancey, YaYa, and Jose. Love it
April 29th, 2023 at 5:04 pm
Thank you to both Joe’s, Ira, Sean Sullivan of Bill Currie Ford, Josh Martin of Florida’s Elite Restoration and Big Storm Beer for a wonderful 3 day draft extravaganza.
I’m going to have a Big Storm draft to celebrate!
Like Bucs AC/DC loving GM Jason Licht’s focus on the trenches.
Thanks again my amigos!

His tape looks good, got some moves I am surprised he wasn’t picked earlier.
April 29th, 2023 at 5:07 pm
This guy is a good pick.
At least, we know he can count to 8.
April 29th, 2023 at 5:08 pm
The Bucs run a 3-4 defense…. this defense is favorable to the tweeners.
Aka… large, athletic humans in between Dline and LB… i don’t think 250lbs is a small human… I think Todd Bowles knows what he is doing.
However, if th3 Bucs lose big this year, and the defense gives up too many points… then this may very well be Bowles last season as the Bucs HC.
Hope they do well, play solid and Bowles proves to be a solid HC afterall.
Make or break season I think.

Man this draft really doesn’t look good for JTS. After these picks he’s gonna run to the film room because nothing is wrong with his physical ability but he’s talking to long to show he’s a true starter
April 29th, 2023 at 5:11 pm
D-Rok – well it’s quick, not necessarily fast. Combine with that 4.73 40, and it means you got someone with a great first step, but then slows down – although a 4.7 as an edge isn’t bad. In fact his speed/quickness profile is in the mold of Shaq Barrett, who also has a great first step.
Anyone taken here has at least a 90% chance of never playing a down, so he’s got long odds, but being elite at anything, this late in the draft, makes him a good value.
April 29th, 2023 at 5:13 pm
MAC Defensive Player of the year. He’s got a chance to be a player for us. Not so worried about the height. Good enough speed to play for us. Has the build of someone who could go inside.
April 29th, 2023 at 5:16 pm
OK, Rod, I can get on-board with your thoughts. Obviously, due to his draft status, this guy will be a fringe player, ST’s for sure. But the Bucs were smart to draft the guys they did this year – ONE of them has to end up a starter, yes?
Great draft by Licht! And I’m saying this as a guy who was p*ssed JL didn’t address the O-line problems after Jensen and Stinnie went down last year. Compared to many others, JL is a good GM.
GO BUCS!!!

Is this pick a reflection of how they feel about how YaYa Diaby has developed? Which current player is this 6th round pick at?
April 29th, 2023 at 5:19 pm
Daniel Jeremiah did his updated list of top 150 on April 24th. According again to his top 150 the Bucs player ratings:
Kancey 26
Mauch 39
Diaby 102
Ramirez 103
Dennis 133
Durham 135
Palmer 149
Hayes NR
Just one “experts” list. But to those acting like Jason Licht was clueless, there is at least one guy who is known that disagrees with you.

What’s funny about people’s 40 time: they are timed in shorts, and not full pads.
Some coaches claim there’s a big disparity, between the two, and are not really sold on their underwear time.

@d Rok
Input “Digel Sports” into the YouTube search field, along with “emuathletics” you’ll find it
April 29th, 2023 at 5:24 pm
I can run really fast my underwear. So far, in my life, it’s never served any purpose.
April 29th, 2023 at 5:24 pm
I like everything but the Hayes pick. Maybe he can tackle.
Let’s sign Mo Ibrahim as an UDFA.
April 29th, 2023 at 5:26 pm
I can get behind this pick, Ramirez can be a ball of clay for Coach Edwards, whose addition to this staff cannot be undervalued. It’d be good to hear how Jose & Shaq interact, it’d be equally dope if they made a master-protege type connection, but I’m getting ahead of myself. This kids athleticism, w/any thing close to Barretts move set can make Ramirez some $$$ in this league.
April 29th, 2023 at 5:38 pm
I like this pick, he dominated lesser competition which is what you want to see. Numbers would have certainly fallen off playing in the SEC or Big Ten but he would have probably still produced.
April 29th, 2023 at 5:41 pm
Look at 50:44.
Brett Kollman knows his stuff.
April 29th, 2023 at 5:43 pm
May e he plays ilb and olb depending on down and distance. I.agine him as ilb with white on some blitz packages with Yaya and Kancey on the field. All that short area speed!

Clearly they are trying to address edge pass rush with these multiple draft picks, and good luck to them. It shouldn’t be difficult to do better than JTS, who gets ridden out of so many plays. I still think they have to go free agency for at least one top pass rusher.
April 29th, 2023 at 5:50 pm
For a sixth round pick…I’d say he’s a fine choice. I like all our picks. Let’s see how they do this summer.
April 29th, 2023 at 6:06 pm
Rod munched, I comprehend hyperbole but the comment that 90% of players at this point will never play a down is far too wrong to not gently push back.
Just last season, 33 of 41 players drafted in the final round, round 7, which is nearly the complete opposite of that claim for the next round. Just over 80% played a down.
I went there because, oddly, the 6th round picks faired worse, but still 31 of 42 played. Just shy of 75%.
April 29th, 2023 at 6:08 pm
Good draft on the defensive side but I would have liked a tackle candidate in the third round. We need help.
April 29th, 2023 at 6:33 pm
Have we traded fodder 45 yet?
April 29th, 2023 at 8:02 pm
I’m cautiously optimistic about this draft.
April 29th, 2023 at 8:11 pm
If Rameriz pans out, he will see lots of playing time. Shaq Barrett will play. But I don’t think we see the old Shaq. Just glimpses of him here and there.
April 29th, 2023 at 8:26 pm
Cynthia Frelund called this her favorite pick of day 3. She thinks he’s a legit pass rusher.
April 29th, 2023 at 9:40 pm
Cynthia Frelund and Jenna Laine might be sisters. Obviously some equine DNA in there if they ever do the 33 an me thing.

Just imagine if JTS and Logan actually step it up this year and any 2 of the new guys contribute to the D and Shaq comes back a 9 or 10 sack guy. This defense will be freaking awesome!!!

THat’s a pleasant thought. Not as pleasant as Annie Agar and Kay Adams doing a videocast from my hot tub, though.
