  1. Mr. Editor Says:

Watch out, Ira! Darrell knows what he’s talking about! Logan Hall might just have been put on notice. Still, I agree with Ira’s analysis. The confused reaction from the fans is not surprising. Not too many of us had Kancey on our draft boards in the first round, if at all. Kancey graded lower earlier in the year because of his measurements, but his impressive combine numbers helped him rocket up the board. How will he fit within the coaches’ scheme? Drafting for need starting….now! Got it!

  2. Garv Says:

I can only see the Bowles led Bucs as a defense first team. And if Kancey is as good as Licht thinks he is, and they obviously wanted him big time as the Sage points out, how can we argue? I definitely think pairing him with Vea could be special. And fans WANT special! So bottom line, especially on reflection, I like the pick!

  3. HC Grover Says:

    But can he play edge?

  4. SteveK Says:

    Kyle Trask might be good.

  5. Tim Says:

They lost Nacho AND Hicks AND Gholston. They picked up the dude from the Rams, so until last night they were down 2 DT’s. This WAS a need pick as well.

  6. Pewter941 Says:

Kancey was ranked 14 on the PFF Big Board

  7. Bucfan593 Says:

It was hard to go back and listen to the best in class podcast and hear the evaluation of this guy! Hope he pans out.

  8. Dooley Says:

    “But can he play edge?”

Not full-time, but depending on the front sure. Kancey will be best served in closer quarters where he can bank on his speed, footwork, and handwork beating interior OLmen off the snap. Ideally, you want whomever Kancey lines up with to be a 2 gapper, so not just Vea, but even Logan Hall to either occupy the A & B or G & C which would leave Kancey and the OLB to the left/right of him a 1 on 1 in a 4-man front.

That’d be a 4 man DL front vs a 5 man OL, your NT can take the C & G on meaning your 3-tech and both OLBs would have 1 on 1’s more often than not. That’s a big deal especially considering our defense hasn’t had a player like this in Bowles’ time as DC and Kancey now will hace the shortest gap to close to get to the QB from the snap to the whistle.

  9. Tucker Says:

Love this pick and they absolutely needed a player like this his explosion is off the charts.

  10. SteveK Says:

Kancey and Vea are a MFer.

Kancey is going to be a monster. Calling it now. He’s a freak-a-leak in terms of athleticism. He’s like Khalil Mack and Aaron Donald had a baby, that was raised by John Randle. The twitchiness is insane and this is the best component to put next to Vea. Hell yeah Bucs!

  11. SlyPirate Says:

    YOU’RE STANDING TOO CLOSE, IRA

Pressure up the middle creates sacks off the edge. Watch Kancey’s tape. He gets to the QB. OT are not built to block guys like Kancey. It’s why Donald and Sapp were so good.

Can you imagine Kancey running a stint with Vea? You’ll lose site of him. When he reappears, he’s too fast to get hands on. Those two, lightning and thunder, are going to terrify offenses.

As Hall develops and JTS takes the next step, the front line will destroy offensive game plans.

    This is a great pick.

  12. BUCman Says:

Would have loved either Brian Branch or Dalton Kincaid but otherwise happy with the pick. Kancey helps strengthen our interior D-line after last years failed attempt with Logan Hall.

  13. Biff Barker Says:

Logan Hall and JTS both suck and will never live up to their draft expectations.

Good luck to Kancey. I’m not certain the Aaron Donald comparisons are fair.

  14. Pewter941 Says:

This pick is no indictment on Hall, we lost 3 dts from last year, they all needed to be replaced.

  15. KnoxvilleBuc Says:

Loved the addition to the Dline last night. Kancey has elite get off and disruptive capabilities! I am glad we did not reach on a QB last night. I would to have seen Darnell Wright fall but we all knew that was not going to happen. So many options in round 2 are available. If Brach is still lingering near #50 he is a viable option for us or Darnell Washington. Another UT guy to watch is Byron Young who could add situational pass rush juice! Let’s go!

  16. BUCman Says:

Thank God they didn’t reach for need like last year when they over drafted Logan Hall. Drafting for need will always result in a less talented roster. Although most people including me weren’t thinking DL in the first round they did solidify a position that was very underwhelming last year. Should now be a decent front with Vea, Kancey, & Gaines. Hopefully we will be pleasantly surprised if Hall shows up vastly improved.

  17. Goatfarmer Says:

    Rubbin the nubbin about Kancey.

  18. firethecannons Says:

I just like that half of this guys stops are in backfield! He seems like an Ed Oliver type of player, that works! Hope Devin White gets his head right and he balls out cause this defense is coming together, we need another corner now.

  19. HC Grover Says:

    Will picks be faster 2nite?

  20. Oxycondoms Says:

The pick makes sense but is the player actually good enough . The bucs had so many position of needs licht probably couldve got a top player at one of them .
I think they pidgeon holed themselves into having to draft a dlineman and went into the draft thinking that. Thats why dude was surprised he got picked.
Bucs had their eyes on other dlineman and settled with good ole kawliga

  21. Oxycondoms Says:

    Poor ole kawliga

  22. OrlandoBucFan Says:

I’m fine with the pick. You can’t have enough quality defensive lineman. As a long time Miami Hurricanes fan, I remember the defenses from the 80’s and early 90’s. The Canes would rotate their D-lineman and it seemed as if the second and third stringers were as good as the starters. There was no let down. Jimmy Johnson did the same thing with the Cowboys in the 90’s. Their defensive lines were ferocious. Since Vita Vea doesn’t play as many snaps as other starters, Kancey will get plenty of opportunities. Maybe a more disruptive interior line will open up our edge rushers. Can’t hurt.

  23. Letsbucinggo Says:

Defense, Defense , Defense I guess offense doesn’t matter. The NFL is an offensive league there hasn’t been anything done for the offense but Matt Fieler and Baker Maybefield. Like these two are going to explode our offense.

  24. Iamabuc Says:

    I don’t understand the whinnying…the draft ain’t over yet…🤦

  25. MadMax Says:

    ACHANE, ACHANE, ACHANE, ACHANE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  26. MadMax Says:

I think we’ll still bring Gholston back and he knows it has to be team friendly….just have to let the draft shake out first and let him explore the market. Put him on Hall to bring him up as his replacement…teach him to beef up and put on some weight.

  27. unbelievable Says:

Does this mean if I fly in from Cali I can get on the podcast too?

I’m less crazy IRL, I promise.
