Jason Licht Has Jokes!
April 27th, 2023Jason Licht may have had the best one-liner he’s ever used while standing at a podium.
Moments after he selected Pitt defensive tackle Calijah Kancey, Licht fielded questions from the local pen and mic club about the Bucs’ first-round pick.
A lot of folks have compared Kancey to all-time great Aaron Donald, another Pitt product. Licht winced at the comparison.
“I’m not comparing him to Aaron Donald,” Licht said of Kancey. “That’s not fair.
“He’s more like John Randle.”
Funny!
In explaining the pick, Licht said it’s becoming more and more difficult to find quality defensive tackles. With Kancey on the board at No. 19, he was too good to pass up on.

The more I read, the more I like the pick.
April 27th, 2023 at 10:50 pm
Hahaha joke this idiot licht looks like a joke with that wack pick he just over reached on !!!!!
April 27th, 2023 at 10:51 pm
He is a disruptive force that will quickly impact plays – great pick
The stunt and twist game with this guy and the other two beasts inside makes this a perfect match
He will come shooting out of a cannon past G and C
Just in love with the pick
April 27th, 2023 at 10:51 pm
Great pick!
April 27th, 2023 at 10:53 pm
WELL, I never heard one word about this guy on here. It makes me laugh! I just hope he’s a good ‘un.
April 27th, 2023 at 10:54 pm
Fast start…Logan Hall will probabnly split plays with him at first, so Hall better play his heart out.
April 27th, 2023 at 11:00 pm
Cricket you should read some mock drafts prior to tonight. A number of mocks had him going at or around 19th. He also received very strong reviews as a great DT prospect.
April 27th, 2023 at 11:01 pm
Rodney, were you really not up on this guy?! Too much time making up AI poems for the blog dude. Second ranked defensive tackle on the NFL.com ratings right after Carter. Nearly identical stats to Donald. Obviously we don’t know how he’ll turn out but loads of potential. Do your homework!
April 27th, 2023 at 11:03 pm
He also only has 30in arms, my 12yr old arms are 28in. He is very undermatched in the NFL. Going against guys with 33/34in arms. He is undersized so he’s going to get rag dolled I think.
April 27th, 2023 at 11:05 pm
Nick, I’d really like to think that our scouts and GM know more than you and I do. Let’s hope that’s true.
April 27th, 2023 at 11:08 pm
Honestly I like this much more than Levis or Hooker next year get a QB in the draft this is a good pick and a real need so good
April 27th, 2023 at 11:09 pm
He’s obviously undersized, but he also has a leverage advantage on every offensive lineman he faces. If his athleticism is what it’s supposed to be, that gives him an advantage. Let’s not forget, he faced NFL sized guys in college too.
April 27th, 2023 at 11:11 pm
Let’s F****** Go!
Bucs are pragmatic not desperate like the other NFC South teams.
Go Bucs!
April 27th, 2023 at 11:11 pm
He may end up being a steal down the road but at his weight will he end up getting tossed around if he plays up front on the line the answer is probably yes, logan hall struggled with it at his weight that is my only worry.
Want him to be a big time player let him go against Wirfs all training camp, he’ll Baptize him for sure.
April 27th, 2023 at 11:11 pm
Moderation?
This site sucks.
April 27th, 2023 at 11:14 pm
JBF – why would you censor my comment? I’ve been here since 2009.
April 27th, 2023 at 11:15 pm
Aaron Donald is undersized as well. But he turned out pretty good. We needed help on the d-line.This guy has a very high ceiling.
April 27th, 2023 at 11:20 pm
He has jokes?
After wasting 3 top picks on Defensive linemen who cant fit in our defense, jokes are all he has left.
April 27th, 2023 at 11:20 pm
I love this pick
April 27th, 2023 at 11:24 pm
Pewter power,
Logan Hall”struggled” at his weight?
Nope. He got steamrolled and pancaked so often, that they were afraid to let our top draft pick play.
Then, they drafted his clone.
Only shorter!!
April 27th, 2023 at 11:27 pm
Shake, (love the name btw) I have to admit, I never read mock drafts. I just hate all the fortune-telling. I don’t see the value in reading them. I also didn’t know much about Randle. I googled his name and there was a video on his opening page that was just fantastic. I REALLY hope this pick is even half the player and man that Randle seems to be. Go Licht!
April 27th, 2023 at 11:34 pm
And what are you doing at T?
April 27th, 2023 at 11:49 pm
Didn’t censor anything.
April 27th, 2023 at 11:52 pm
The idiots crying about this draft pick are the same idiots that cried when we drafted Vita Vea🤣
April 28th, 2023 at 12:01 am
Q: What will JL do win the Bucs win the super bowl this year?
A: turn off the X-Box
April 28th, 2023 at 12:07 am
I’m pretty excited about this pick! I want to see the Bucs get back to dominant defense and this helps us get some speed and elite penetration capability on the D-line.
April 28th, 2023 at 12:15 am
Tim — you should either stop taking the drugs you are taking, or triple your consumption of them. What you are doing is a hilarious display of ignorance. Wait — are you Tugg Speedman?
April 28th, 2023 at 12:22 am
He is so crazy explosive can’t wait to see him play. Go bucs
April 28th, 2023 at 12:23 am
The Bucs need some instant impact players. If this guy is one, then I will be very happy!! Last year I was very depressed!
April 28th, 2023 at 12:49 am
They’ve got to double team Vea so Kancey should be able to spend a lot of time in the other teams backfield making TFL
April 28th, 2023 at 12:53 am
I saw an article on Kancey last week. I believe it was here on JBF
And BTW, as far as moderation goes, I seem to stay in it. Just got back in AND I know exactly why. I didn’t cuss or jump around and such. … (((Don’t make things up please about Joe. Thanks.–Joe))
It’s computer generated but with the touch of a button it can be fixed.
The outcome will depend on the type of character Joe has or does not have. We will see.
And btw, the Kansey pick may not have been the first choice. Likely he wasn’t. However, it doesn’t represent that Licht and the entire front office had No Clue as to what to do. Come On Man!
I have a strange feeling that there were MANY contingency plans in place. We got lucky that Kancey was still there! PERFECT PICK for what we Want and Need.
Kancey is a Shooting STAR! He may not have been the very first choice but I don’t know that for a fact either. All I know is that I’m proud he’s with us and that he’s a day 1 starter! NOT A PROJECT! Thank God
April 28th, 2023 at 5:54 am
Eagle will be back in the Superbowl that’s how you build a team!!! Bringing Brady back last year was a big mistake and I told y’all this was going to happen.
April 28th, 2023 at 5:55 am
The Brady effect lol 🤣🤣😆!!!
April 28th, 2023 at 6:14 am
Kancey is sort of in the Warren Sapp mold.
Sapp 6’2 300 lb.
Kancey 6’1 281 lb.
April 28th, 2023 at 7:21 am
This kid has an unusual body. When he ran the 40 at combine you could see how developed his lower body and hips were. There is freakish speed and power in his legs.
The upper part of his body looks small compared to lower so he will need to put on some more muscle in shoulders and arms.
Being that rushing passers is about leverage and ability to twist, I can see where he is more of a natural edge guy than a traditional interior lineman.
Much more upside than JTS or Hall. Very fast for a big man.
April 28th, 2023 at 9:26 am
Randle was a comp.
I don’t get the joke.
Am i missing something Joes?
April 28th, 2023 at 10:19 am
I didn’t make anything up Joe. Why would I do that? In fact, it started when I commented on that I felt you were wrong about not having other options in the “Kancey Stunned” article. That’s where and when I got moderated.. Surely didn’t seem worthy of moderation. It’s right there. Why moderation then?
I can certainly understand IF it’s aggressive beyond reason. But that’s a little light to be aggravated with moderation.
There are PLENTY on here that stir it hard and they aren’t being scrutinized to that level. There wasn’t time for anyone to personally do that so I’m assuming computer generated.
But I certainly DID NOT make it up. Perhaps if you post what incurred/incurres moderation on your site then I can avoid problems in the future. I’ve never seen stipulations posted anywhere so I don’t know how to avoid if I’m going to take my time and readership to take part of the conversation. Doesn’t seem very fair because it’s not. It’s more like an Easter Egg hunt.
How about helping out FANS of your site instead of penalizing. How about Posting the stipulations of moderation so that it can be avoided because I don’t see it in my comment as it seems others don’t get it either because we are witnessing (or at least I am) others saying just whatever they want with no consequences (being a loyal viewer of your site for YEARS) with a stark difference for my light post. PLUS, I was only trying to lighten the mode a bit for the other poster that wanted to flip out and show him that he wasn’t the only one getting moderated. I didn’t ly about how it happened. It’s easy enough for you to check it out to see if what I’m saying is true since someone feels I’m “making it up”. And if I’m mistaken about when, where, and why… Well that’s because I have NO CLUE as to what triggers it. All I know is where I indicated is exactly the where when and why it happened to me. Just guessing beyond that. And since I’m forced to guess, well….
April 28th, 2023 at 11:30 am
Long arms are a necessity… on the edge. That’s where pass rushers long arm tackles and vice versa… neither player wants the opponent to get their hands on their chest plate…. inside is a totally different story. Long arms aren’t a necessity… inside players go shoulder pad to shoulder pad on nearly every play. Long arming a guy that is bullrushing will do nothing. You can’t catch a 300+ lb man exploding off the ball creating 400+ lbs of force on every play… it’s pad to pad. His arms are incredibly short… but it isn’t a huge deal inside.
April 28th, 2023 at 12:13 pm
Yes!
April 28th, 2023 at 12:52 pm
Actually, John Randles brother, Earvin Randle, played for the Bucs in the 80s.
April 28th, 2023 at 2:45 pm
Goatfarmer and Boricua
Nope. I was the one last year- pointing out that Logan hall was a tweener waste of a pick- while you guys were calling him the “Next Aaron Donald”
If it isnt obvious to you, that a 5’11” , 280 pound DT isnt big enough for the NFL- then you arent Enough to comment.
And no- you cant” move him around”
He played over 80% of his college plays at DT.
Since DE is a much more in demand position, if he could play DE, then he would have played DE.
How can people watch Football every week- and not have any clue about it
