His record of player development is in the books. No need to bloviate on that. And, Bowels is indeed a record setting coach. He is on pace to record the most consecutive losing seasons by a head coach in modern history. Not hate. Fact.
That is quite an accomplishment, requiring multiple attributes working in perfect synchronization. Practice. Preparation. Game planning. Play calling. Tactical decisions in game. Inability to adjust in game or week-to-week. Raving about one player and then keeping him on the bench in the most important game of the year, then letting the player you played instead go for peanuts and signing the benched guy to a huge contract.

Maybe I’m missing something but what is the inability to develop edge rusher narrative coming from?
Looking up the Jets drafts under Bowles and don’t see any premium picks on edge rusher?
I found 2 3rd round picks and both didn’t develop under anyone else that I know of …
Q Williams was a DT and Darron Lee an ILB
So was it from before 2015 or almost 10 years ago?

Arians quitting on the team to promote Bowles is what killed a great 2 year run that long suffering fans were treated to. Just like when Kiffin quit on the Bucs and a promising season was derailed.
Arians quitting and putting his unqualified friend over an entire organization is what killed any real hopes in 2023.

Arians only had a two year window with all the old free agents they brought in, it was the same when he coached in Arizona. He paid for top old free agents and the Cardinals had two good years and then imploded. Arians does not develop players, he buys free agents.

I think Mr. Ds premise is off. I think it speaks more to the draft than a defensive coach’s ability to develop a pass rusher. How many pass rushers did Bill Cowher develop?

I question how much this Joe knows the game he professes to be all about. I’m not the biggest Bowles fan as I think he’s a good coordinator but awful HC. But this is a bad take from this Joe

D13Klemperer with another idiotic take. Can’t develop a pass rusher, can’t develop a QB. SO don’t draft ’em? We still need to put the talent in place. If Bowles fails this year, we’ll have players for someone else to work with. This whole defeatist approach to player selection is probably one of D13Klemperer’s most idiotic takes,

Also, Licht gave the correct answer on the question about production from a rookie pass rusher. Simple minded critics like the aforementioned boob want a simple number to use as the b!tching threshold. The correct answer is that it’s about winning, and there is no sense in publishing your expectations for rookies. Young player differ. Some guys might take longer to develop. The boob in question lacks the intellectual flexibility to deal with gray areas.
