America’s Backup
March 13th, 2023America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston, has accepted a pay cut and will remain with the slimy Saints to be the backup to big-money free agent quarterback Derek Carr.
That’s the word from Josina Anderson of CBS.
What a sad day this must be for healthy Jameis (outside of the $4 million plus incentives he’ll bank from New Orleans).
Around the NFL there are/were starting quarterback openings and opportunities, but Jameis apparently decided he doesn’t have a good shot to earn one of those, so he’ll hold a clipboard for Carr.
In 2022, Jameis lost his starting job to Andy Dalton, who was 6-8 in 14 starts. Somewhat ironically and oddly, the Saints, with the same head coach, didn’t re-sign Dalton but stayed with Jameis.
What a far fall it’s been for 29-year-old Jameis, the former Buccaneers franchise quarterback. The Bucs didn’t even want him back this season and are more interested in retreads like Baker Mayfield and Jacoby Brissett.
Perhaps next season will be a fresh start for Jameis with a new team — in football or baseball.

He finally has embraced his lane as backup!
March 13th, 2023 at 9:53 pm
Honestly, I wish he would end up somewhere other than our damned hated rival SAINTS, so I can root for him.
The kid is only… what, 26 or so?
There is still time for him to make a mark of his own in this league. He is still young enough. But…… it is going to need to start trending that way pretty soon.
March 13th, 2023 at 9:54 pm
Good for him. Good for the Bucs.
March 13th, 2023 at 10:00 pm
Yeah Demon….. about 26.
We drafted him when he was 18.
He was just that dam good.
🙄
March 13th, 2023 at 10:02 pm
I really wanted Jameis to succeed.
Not happening.
March 13th, 2023 at 10:03 pm
Rod Munch, please call ndog to offer your condolences and support for this travesty?
March 13th, 2023 at 10:03 pm
Better then Josh Freeman fall.
March 13th, 2023 at 10:03 pm
DoooshLaRue – what makes it worse is JW age is in the article… He is 29!
March 13th, 2023 at 10:13 pm
Dont care about JW. All I want is Orlando Brown Jr! Hes more Important than any other position and would be a HUGE upgrade from Donovan Smith.
March 13th, 2023 at 10:14 pm
I find Joe to be classless with a picture of him with fingers in his mouth, maybe a photo of some of his positive moments? So negative and for me a turn off. Why do you dwell on negativity? Winston certainly will never be close to some of the worst QB’s in NFL history, he’s certainly well above the Mendoza line and I’d say he’s probably in the top five of all time Buc QB’s going back to 1976.
March 13th, 2023 at 10:17 pm
That picture is funny.
And Winston was an exciting player to watch. A touchdown could be scored at any moment in either end zone.
March 13th, 2023 at 10:27 pm
He’s a bust who made millions. Not a bad gig to have.
March 13th, 2023 at 10:30 pm
The pictures there because that’s him mocking the Bucs.

lolol, so true. The guy could chuck a 40 yard frozen rope threaded between 3 defenders hit Evans right in the bread basket, off his back foot while 2 dudes are dragging him down. Very next play he’d throw it right to the stationary middle linebacker under no pressure at all
March 13th, 2023 at 10:33 pm
Check yo sheet!
March 13th, 2023 at 10:34 pm
Have to wonder if he had the option to backup Brady before he went to saints… Or was that info already given? Prob would have had a better chance at starting today if he had..but nobody has a crystal ball and everybody thought his quickest path to starting again was Brees retirement… He did for a bit right?
March 13th, 2023 at 10:36 pm
I don’t get the fans on this site. They hate the idea of Mayfield and Brissett but love Winston. He’s crazy immature. The comments he made after leaving here and in his last season here were ridiculous. Joe posts those pictures because that’s who he is. Baker’s numbers aren’t even comparable to Winston. So much better with a much lesser team and coach.
March 13th, 2023 at 10:39 pm
“What a far fall its been for 29 year old Jameis”
I loved this kid coming out of FSU. All the talent is there. He just can’t wrap his head around the concept of protecting the ball. Too bad.
March 13th, 2023 at 10:56 pm
Good for him!!! He could have done a lot worse than 8 million. Not a far fall at all. I bet his biggest regret is trying to get 30 million from the Bucs, should have taken the discounted contract, would have been more than that. Not bad coin for a backup and still young. I’ve long moved on so enough Winston hate, he left and we immediately won a superbowl so I think we got the best deal from the split
March 13th, 2023 at 11:05 pm
Winston fans are like Tebow fans…full of excuses. Tebow was awful. Winston is awful. They are equally dense between the ears.
March 13th, 2023 at 11:14 pm
Joe
Winston was NEVER a Bucs franchise QB.
Definitely XFL material

RGA, the pic was a positive moment for Jameis. He is standing next to Brees after defeating the Bucs. I thought it was actually the funniest dig he’d ever taken.
He’s mocking the team that you’re supposed to be a fan of; ya know, the team that drafted him 1st overall even though his conduct at FSU gave teams (& Bucs) plenty of reasons to look elsewhere, gave him “weapon for Winston”; gave him 5 years, gave him a black coach that he could “relate” to, fired an excellent back-up QB so Jameis wouldn’t feel challenged; threw 30 picks then asked for $30 mil. per year before giving the organization the middle finger with his “check yo’ sheets” statement then quickly played for a rival team as a back-up for $1-2 mil. which is nothing in today’s NFL.
The guy is a female hygiene product! Go to an ‘aints site.

Joe buck can go to hell im a die hard saints fan and hate the way they played him. I see all the bucs fans on here talking about him, what about before that risk it coach he carried yall sorry ass team lol this season you might be wishing to have him back.sean payton saw the real deal i bet had he still been coach no way jw sit when healthy . Much respect to ya jw sit back and take thar money, God gotcha
March 13th, 2023 at 11:30 pm
Think of Trent Dilfer. Drafted by BUCS to be their franchise about. Didn’t work out. Becomes back upbeat or Ravens becomes starter due to injury and leads them to a Super Bowl victory. Viny Testaverde. A couple pretty good seasons starting for the Jets. And Steve Young? Arguably an adequate replacement for Joe Montana complete with championships. Are we seeing a pattern here?
Jamies’s hobgoblin was immaturity. Could his humbling acceptance of a back up role be a sign of emerging maturity? Worked for those guy. Just saying.

Where art thou, Sir Hot Rodney WhiteKnight of Munch?
Pretty lucky to get 8 million indeed. He actually might be as good as Used Carr ( more of a commentary on Carr than Winny ). I was good with him until the Dub eating and locker room dancing. To think The Bucs were whiskers away from paying him 100 million guaranteed if he didn’t fold like a Jason Licht suit down the stretch in 2019. Completely changed Buc history…thank you, Winny.
March 13th, 2023 at 11:38 pm
Jamies Winston has 8 million reasons to be happy 🤑

Three G Greggy chiming in from Sewer City I see. You make Oneilbuc sound/look like an English professor. Unless you are OneilBuc…
March 13th, 2023 at 11:55 pm
David Carr Will get hurt and Jameis will play. Smart business move imo.
March 14th, 2023 at 12:08 am
Baseball? Your joking I hope. I think he last time he played was at FSU 8 years ago but was kicked off the team.
March 14th, 2023 at 12:19 am
NO other team wants him and he is taking a pay cut SO he is cheap and convenient for the Saints! …
March 14th, 2023 at 12:33 am
I’m not a Winston fan at all. After the off the field stuff happened, I didn’t want to see him in Tampa. Saying all that…. This really tells where Winston’s head is at anymore. He really had one more chance I thought, to try and get a starting job. Number 1 pick giving up and taking the clip board. It’s a big red sign! I can still hear it though… “he threw for 5,000 yards!!!” Arians and Payton must have been holding his mental part together! Sad, sad, sad he has all the talent, nothing upstairs and the mental strength on Rojo
March 14th, 2023 at 1:18 am
For some reason when I think of jamiss, I don’t think of class. I think of Uber drivers, I think of crab legs, and most importantly I think of int’s baby! Lots of em.
March 14th, 2023 at 2:05 am
Why does Jameis merit any coverage from Joe? Who cares about him or the Saints? Their signing Carr will be a cause for celebration. He is a loser and will not elevate the Saints. Carr, Jameis….mediocrity defined.

Doosh, yea thanks for the eyeroll.
Sorry man, just hard to believe it was that long ago.
March 14th, 2023 at 8:13 am
jameis did a heck of a lot of showboating, dancing and “W”ing around the bucs, as brees’ back up a couple years back…
it was in fairly poor form and taste and showed his head wasn’t screwed on right…
and now he has been repositioned into a back up qb role with a lot to lament…
(i too rooted for jameis big time in his buc days)
i really thought he would come back to bite us in the azz possibly, but it doesn’t really appear to be the case…
he and mariotta are prolly texting each other like wtf happened
March 14th, 2023 at 8:31 am
That draft with Winston going # 1 and Mariotta #2, what a waste of draft picks. At the time those 2 were considered the best QB prospects but when you really evaluate them Winston’s cannon arm was negated by his slow reads and release and inaccuracy.
Mariotta was an option quarterback who couldn’t get timing down with speedy WR and was looking to run to often and got too many hard hits for a guy with a lean body.
When evaluating quarterbacks you really have to look at the intangibles and whats in their heads not just the athleticism.
March 14th, 2023 at 9:23 am
As has been said so many times, success in the Pro game is often because it is played well above the neck, as they all have some talent. Jameis had a boatload of talent. But was average at best above the neck. Too bad we couldn’t see that prior to that draft. But water under the bridge.
March 14th, 2023 at 9:35 am
F all aints players especially their fans f u and you dirty ass nola sorry ass town with garbage everywhere
March 14th, 2023 at 9:58 am
He got worse over time. It’s not uncommon in the NFL. Once a QB starts to make mistakes they don’t react to the read, they start to think and doubt themselves.
It can be really hard for a QB to overcome that. Winston hasn’t. I doubt Mayfield will ever as well. People talk about “fixing” a QB. That is really hard to do.
March 14th, 2023 at 11:25 am
Laugh all you like. Jameis is gonna put close to 8 mil in his pockets this year. And he lost his job to Dalton because of his injuries. Not because he was outplayed. Who know? He will get his chance again. Backups always do.
March 14th, 2023 at 3:54 pm
What a hard life! $4 million to be a back-up?!
Truth is, he’s not a Buc so I don’t care.
March 14th, 2023 at 5:00 pm
Hahahahaha thank God in heaven.
