Handicappers All Over The Map On Odds Bucs Acquire Lamar Jackson

March 10th, 2023

Baltimore QB Lamar Jackson.

So one of the better quarterbacks in the NFL is on the market. A former league MVP.

Will some team pull the trigger (the Bucs?) or will Lamar Jackson relent and stay in crime-ridden Baltimore?

It seems handicappers can’t figure out where Jackson will end up. Take Sportsline.com. There, Matt Severance documents the odds are very long for the Bucs to land Jackson.

If a team got Jackson for only two first-round picks, that would be a steal. Cleveland gave up three first-round picks, a third-rounder and a fourth-rounder to Houston in the Watson trade, and Jackson is a much better player.

So what are the chances, per Sportsline, of Jackson wearing pewter and red this fall? Not very good.

Via SportsLine oddsmakers: If not the Ravens, which team will Lamar Jackson be playing for in 2023?

Falcons +300
Raiders +400
Jets +500
Patriots +800
Commanders +900
Panthers +1000
Titans +1200
Buccaneers +1500
Dolphins +2000

But then there is the outfit BetOnline.ag. Their numbers crunchers predict a much different story. Per BetOnline.ag, the Bucs are a favorite to reel in Jackson.

So where will Jackson end up? It seems the guys and gals with a sports crystal ball are looking through foggy glass.

    Speculative Nonsense Industrial Complex.

    This ain’t happening. Thank gawd.

  2. Tye Says:

Hopefully the chances of him in Tampa is NONE… not even slim… Just NONE!

I’ll be SO happy when this nonsence of linking ever qb to the Bucs is over…
    Its looking desperate…

  3. Just Saying Says:

Lamar is not worth the price. He wants fullly guaranteed money enough to cripple any team that takes him. Even without the draft picks it would take. Hard pass

  4. AtlBuc Says:

Why are we talking about this?

  5. Brad Says:

If only our ownership had some cash to fund the escrow. I heard man U was for sale 😉

  6. BrianBucs Says:

    NO. PERIOD.

  7. Rod Munch Says:

Yeah, like Bowles has told us, you don’t need a QB to win, all you have to do is run the ball and play defense like it’s 1972. LOL!

Of course if you had any legit chance to get Lamar you get him. If you think otherwise, you’re an idiot.

Well there you have it. All of us who think he’s overrated, a poor passer, not a good leader, and wanting an unreasonable amount of money and guarantees, and don’t wanna give up 2 1st round picks for that proposition — we’re all idiots. Okay, got it. Not to mention it would crush our cap for years to come… Yeah, we’re the idiots.

  9. Rod Munch Says:

sasquatch – Lets see… franchise QB or two lottery tickets? Humm, tough one.

Also, he is an overrated passer, and if he’s going to be used as a pocket passer, then he’s a bad fit. However, if you use him as the Ravens used him, then you’re instantly the best team in the NFC South and back into the playoffs.

But who wants that when you could have two lottery tickets!?!

  10. Leopold Stotch Says:

Good grief this is stupid. We’re in no position to give up to 1st round picks. No chance we sign him

  11. Rod Munch Says:

You ladies are right. Who needs a franchise QB when you could have another VH3 and JTS? Good thinking, dummies.

  12. Onetrickpony Says:

Nobody is going to go for that deal, if they have any sense but again somebody may. We will find out who’s living in la la land

  13. Leopold Stotch Says:

I’ll take my chances on the lottery tickets. He’s a smaller Cam Newton, he’s proven he WILL get hurt and he’s older. Plus if he’s a franchise qb, why the hell would the Ravens let him even think of signing elsewhere? They are geniuses, because they win no matter what happens. They either say “OK, you can make money elsewhere and we get two picks” or say to Lamar “See we told you you weren’t worth that much, now our offer that was better that the other teams? Well we’re going to pay you less now”. Anyway he’s not worth the risk. We have a lot of holes to fill.

  14. Daryl Green Says:

Well my history as a Bucs fan tell me.
Glazer love to work in silence. Welcome to
    The squad Lamar🤙🏾

  15. PewterStiffArm Says:

It would be one of the dumbest moves this franchise could make. Focus on what your future holds infront of you, draft picks. Focus on what has been proven to work, your free agents. And establish what might work for you in the foreseeable future when it comes to other teams free agents. Jackson is a small melanoma that can easily metastasi into a much bigger problem that we don’t need. We have a good culture on this team. The NFL knows this, especially after our recent Superbowl run. There are some quarterbacks that are sitting out there that can easily help us. Don’t engage in these huge contracts that steal your future and piledge your present team structure, please don’t do it.

  16. Onetrickpony Says:

No thank you, you can have him, can’t afford him and if we could ,still no thank you

  17. SB~LV Says:

If Aaron Rodgers signs with the JETS
Tom Brady will sign with the Dolphins
U heard it hear furst !
and LVD will go to Myami

  18. mg Says:

    Sign him up

  19. 1sparkybuc Says:

And spend the rest of the decade in cap hell, no thanks. We have already seen the GOAT have his first losing season of his career with a better roster than Jackson could expect. It’s still a team game. We need as many draft picks as we can get.

  20. Jeff’s grandpa Says:

Not for fully guaranteed contract no thxs 30% of cap on one player is a recipe for 9-8 yearly

  21. Marine Buc Says:

I keep telling you guys and no one is listening…

We need to get both Lamar Jackson and Aaron Rodgers.

That way we have a real good starting QB and a real good back up.

This is so obvious to me – why aren’t you guys listening?

  22. ocala Says:

Even though the Bucs cap position for 2023 is terrible, the Bucs cap position in 2024 and 2025 looks very good so the Bucs can make it work.

While not as harsh as Rod Munch I do think it would be silly for the Bucs to not strongly consider signing him. My biggest issue with signing him is not his ability, but our head coach and his ability. He has proven to be a poor head coach and I have not seen anything that would change that.

  23. Mike Johnson Says:

You ain’t goin nowhere in the NFL without an at least good QB. He does not have to be great but he has to be good. Remember this when we are 3-9.

  24. Goatfarmer Says:

Even though we have the worst head coich in the NFL, at least the GM knows what he is doing. No way Licht ever, an a million years, signs the oft injured running back who throws the ball erratically.
