Report: Dolphins Out On Tom Brady Chase

Joe is celebrating one less playing option for Tom Brady next season. BSPN super insider Adam Schefter reports this morning that the Miami Dolphins, the team that already lost a first-round pick in its pursuit of Brady, albeit against NFL rules, will not be chasing him in free agency in March.
Yes, even with their current starter Tua Tagovailoa having serious concussion issues (he isn’t cleared to play flag football at the Pro Bowl), the Fins are out on Brady. Schefter says the Dolphins are committed to Tagovailoa.
And Joe suspects the 49ers will have no Brady fantasies if they beat the Eagles today.
Joe wonders if Dolphins management evaluated the 2022 Brady film and collectively said, “No thanks.” Or is their decision primarily tied to other factors?

Easy decision by the Fish. I’d trade Brady for Tua straight up if given the chance. Tua gives you a chance for 5 or 7 more years. Brady is 46 and more expensive. This Brady Watch stuff is tiring.

He didn’t put together good film this year. And he has a bum shoulder and finger. Not to mention, he looks like a Skelton because of the dramatic weight loss. I’m the biggest Brady fan, but he’s retiring. It’s Blaine and Kyle next year. The good thing is the other teams in our division are in rebuild mode. No reason why we can’t win another eight games next year, maybe even more.

I think this team can turn it around with Brady next year but whoever they hire as an OC they need to figure out how to score at least an average of 25 freaking points. Draft speed at wide receiver, get another left tackle (if possible) who’s focused on playing football, add another edge rusher, sign Dean , Lavonte, replace SMB with a more competent nickel corner. I wish they hadn’t let go of Whitehead but they need to get better at tackling on the back end.

Hey I think the mistake they’re making is not bringing in serious qb competition or drafting an actual an for the future not 3 perennial backups and that includes Trask. If they were serious he would have been the number 2. I’m happy my team for 47 years won a SB but some of the moves and decisions BA (and Licht) made with this coaching staff like having a train of QB consultants without a competent OC is mind boggling and myopic.

With Brady they’d be all-in for next season and if it doesn’t happen, they’d be without a quarterback. With Tua, he played very well and could be their franchise quarterback for many years and many shots.
Troy Aikman and Steve Young were plagued with concussions too as I recall, and they were able to keep playing.

Ok if/when Brady comes back I don’t want to hear any complaining from y’all about the bucs cap and how they can’t resign any of their free agents next year because Brady came back for 1 more year? Deal? Does anyone really think this team is Super Bowl bound with just a new offensive coordinator. I can legitimately make an argument that this team will need almost every position and has holes. I always thought it was Dolphins or back to Bucs for Brady. The Raiders can dream and hope, but too difficult of a division. Bucs guarantee an easier path towards a division crown and a playoff berth. The Titans probably do as well, but they suffer from the same problems Bucs do with an aging roster.

Oh well I guess we can revisit this topic in a year again when we’re struggling to fill a team with two very expensive players up for new deals in Winfield and Wirfs oh and another pic in the 20s. Maybe we’ll find out about trask or any qb then lol. Maybe we’ll pickup some more bargain bin aging vets to fill in the holes. Alien hicks, Julio jones and Logan Ryan helped a ton this season so maybe we’ll hit on 1 . Oh and injuries I guess we’ll remain perfectly healthy all year long and all of the rookies we draft will be hits too! Can’t wait!

Denial? I don’t care if Brady comes back or not. I’d probably prefer the latter because I have TB fatigue and his play was ROUGH this year regardless of how poor the oline played. I’d like to see what Trask has or be in a position to draft a potential franchise guy like Caleb Williams in 2024. Even still, it’s my belief that Brady will not retire with year he had both personally and professionally. He will give it one last go for glory.
His best option to both be successful and stay close to his kids (in Miami and NY) is the Bucs.
Gronk is less likely but since he claimed to be bored and wanted to come back around Thanksgiving this year could indicate a return is possible.
Not exactly impossible, but nothing more than speculation and a guess… like everything else is until it happens.

I am of the mind that if Devin White performs poorly again this season, then the Bucs will let him walk.
The only two consistent performers I’ve seen since drafted are Winfield and Wirfs.
Devin White has been spotty in alota games….especially pass coverage.
Vita Vea seems to always be injured now and all he does it clog up the running lanes.
The GM and the Glazers have some very hard decisions to make soon.

The choices beyond Tom aren’t riveting.
Carr? I like him ok but many do not. Apparently one of those teams is the Raiders who know him best.
Mayfield? He had a stunning debut for the Rams and then went back to being his erratic spastic self.
The Panthies probably stay down with Darnold, the Giants probably stay down with Danny Dimes. Goff is definitely going to be a Lion. Lamar Jackson, waaayyyy too expensive and a running injury list.
Goobert and Trashk? Baaahaaaahaahahahahahahaaaaaa. Call up 83-year-old Norm Snead. He’d be just as good.
Bring Tom back, put the best sales pitch on him and give him an equity stake in the team, Glazers. Do it. Then get Gronky for one more year. Gronky will do it after a year’s rest and time to train and get his body and mind right.
And instead of going for splash old skill players who are injury prone, let’s beef up the trenches. Have an inordinate number of O-linemen and D-linemen in training camp so to improve the chances of picking up a few good ones on the cheap.

He’s already informed the Glazers he’s not returning. The only thing Brady is contemplating right now is how to make a big splash with his retirement announcement. I think he’ll wait until after the Super Bowl or he might announce it the day his new movie is released. It will be tightly regarded. His manager started reaching out for jobs prior to his retirement, and that’s why it got leaked last year.

#1 The Patriots never had cap issues because Bill Belichick didn’t believe in paying good players to stay except for Brady. (Look up the Patriot Way)
#2 The Glazers traditionally have been cheap in the past and I don’t see that changing anytime soon either.
Bill Belichick is arguably one of the greatest coaches in NFL history and Todd Bowles is far cry from Belichick.

So Dolphins say they’re not in the TB hunt. Why would anyone believe them? It’s not like they never lied before.
As far as building a competitive TEAM around Brady goes, does anyone really believe that our 2023 team will even be as good as our 2022 team? We’re starting way in the hole salary CAP-wise (at MINUS $55 mil) , losing half our team to free agency (including almost half our starters on defense), we’ve only got 3 draft picks in the Top 4 Rounds (usually where starters come from?).
And as far as Bucs drafting the top QB prospect to back up Brady this season goes, y’all are aware that we’re drafting #19, right? That’s OJ Howard country … if we’re lucky. No top prospects at any position are falling all the way to #19. Certainly not QB or Left Tackle.

They have made Brady bigger than the whole team and guess what they love to talk about being revarlant but ain’t no team is relevant anymore because they talk about teams anymore they only talk about one position and that’s the quarterback. And I never cared if the basis media don’t talk about the bucs . But Brady time has come to a end just like every other great player . If the bucs bring Brady back we will suck for the next 10 years because of the cap . It’s time to move in to the future just like all the other teams are doing. Brady is the GOAT. He is amazing at the most important job in an NFL team. He is just one player. The Oline needs improvement. Receivers had issues getting open and catching. No reliable TEs. Defense is going to lose a lot in FA. So I would love Brady back but how is the rest of the team competitive?

Hear me out, the success that Seattle had with Geno makes me want to give Blaine a shot, he looked really good the one series he played against Atlanta and no one has talked about him. He would be relatively cheap and is still fairly mobile. Some people just take longer to develop. The other qb’s at this stage would bring the same upside as him. I really think this team just needs to move on, for the good of the franchise pay the cap bill and let’s get ready for 2023!!

I agree with you 100% obviously. None of this ‘reloading’ bullspit; we need a ‘rebuilding’, starting ironically with the defense (only because the number of FAs mandates it). Bucs have a chance in 2023 to determine our future, starting with decisions like WHO we keep to move forward with and WHO we dump in terms of FAs. That’ll dictate our 2023 draft needs, as well as what other FAs we should pursue.
At the foundation of all that Anthem is our IDENTITY. Some teams are offense-focused; some defense-focused. I prefer a BALANCED approach in terms of offense-defense, hopefully getting each side of the ball strong enough to end back up in the Top-10 on BOTH sides of the ball within probably 3 years (give or take). Hey, we’re starting in a pretty deep hole in case no one’s noticed. Our DEPTH is mediocre at best, and we don’t have the $$$ to buy our way out. Hmmm, sounds like a conundrum (I believe it’s StPete who likes that word).

I can see the points you are trying to make, and I can’t argue. He was afraid to get hit because he knew he would get hit behind this line.
And if Brady was hurt, say, in week 3 last year? We’d have had 3 wins.
My point is, unlike Favre, Manning, Moon, Elway, Montana in their last season, they really could NOT sling the rock anymore, although they tried.
Brady isn’t at that point YET. It might come this year, who knows? I’ve maintained all throughout last year that if Brady was washed, he could NOT be so flawless in the no-huddle, 4-minute, and 2-minute offense. He was stellar in those situations, and I welcome anyone to debate he wasn’t awesome in those situations, which says, he still has talent, moxie, and ability.

The Eagles-49ers game is turning out like I thought it would (expected the Eagles to win), but was expecting a low scoring game. Surprised that the Eagles run game, complemented by their short passing game, has done so well in the 1st half. Of course, a lot of that seems to have been the consequence of the 49ers making so many mistakes (penalties & turnovers). Oh and having to use their 4th string QB, Josh Johnson.
Interesting watching 2 good defenses go at each other though (both Top-10). Both offenses are Top-10 also. Philly’s running attack is impressive. Shows what a creative OC can do.

^ Agree on almost all that D-rok, his main problems this year were:
– throwing the ball away too quickly
– out of sync with Evans (and sometimes others) too often
I suspect a normal off-season would fix at least one of those.

D-Rok, no QB likes to get hit. What’s the point of taking a ten yard loss though. Living to fight another down is much smarter than taking a beating. I will admit that Brady stood in the pocket much more during his salad days. He also suffered numerous, unreported concussions during that time. If Matt Ryan doesn’t eat a sack in superbowl 51, he’s a champion. Digression is the better part of valor in all things. They have 4 downs.

The Bucs defensive front four is awful.
LVD is a free agent and Devin White is a liability in pass coverage, so tgat means that the Bucs front 7 is shaky.
Secondary players are injury prone and what do you do about CB2, and so that’s now a need.
Other than every area on defense being needed to be addressed with no salary cap to work with, I think that the Bucs are in great shape.

If Purdy recovers from his injury, the 49ers have their QB of the future. Period.
The question is how significant the injury is on his throwing arm. They still have Trey Lance, and haven’t given up on him just yet. I do not see them changing course for a 46 yr old Brady. They would probably sign Jimmy G again, if they need a backup to Purdy.

That was a horrendous game to watch. Eagles get a free 7. Purdy gets hurt. A punt apparently hits a camera wire. Bosa gets hurt standing on the sideline. And one of the greatest jokes of all QBs, Josh Johnson, who has backed up on about half the teams in the NFL, was incredibly incompetent. Damn shame. Without injury to Purdy, that would have been a great game coming down to the end.

Purdy has been super tight leading up to that very play during this whole playoff run. Everyone could sense something bad was overdue for Purdy. However, I wish no injury for any player. I just thought he’d produce multiple turnovers in this game that kinda evaded in other games. My feel was that he was not going to provide much competent plays even if he stayed healthy.
Yes, Eagles got a free TD in the beginning. But, hey… who doesn’t need a little luck here and there to proceed in playoff run.

The Las Vegas Schiff Show can’t find a trading partner for Carr they’ll cut him loose in a couple weeks. Carr may be the best option if Brady decides to hang it up or go else where. A change of scenery and a crappy NFC South division should be very desirable for a guy like DC. Need to address the O-Line and pass rush early in the draft and bring in a competent and creative offensive coordinator.

Yeah… SF will likely not sign him simply due to all the QBs they have on the roster, despite the fact that they win the SB with TB12 almost guaranteed. Miami will never admit IF they are interested due to the consequences. But Tua is no long term solution due to health issues. If TB brings in a top flight OC, he may come back though not if offers from either of the other 2. He took the 2011 Pats to the SB with the 31st ranked defense. With the right offensive coach and a competent OLine he could do it again even if the defense takes a step back, I think. Im all in for Miami and the prospect of 2 games against NE next year.

In the Super Bowl victory against the Seahawks, it was Bellicheck’s defense saving the day, and not TB12.
To often fans of a player forget that it takes a team to win, and in those 3 Super Bowl victories Bellicheck’s Pats defense was the determining factor, and not the offense.

I was one of Brady’s biggest critics this year. The offense sucking had as much to do with him and his lack of desire to “risk it” as it was on Leftwich for refusing to open the offense up beyond runs up the middle and passes three yards or less. But if Brady is motivated and is physically and mentally prepared to do the job, I would be happy to see him back… provided we start looking to the future at the position.

belleglade missing the point. in each game he brought his team down at the end of the game to go ahead. in the losses, belichick’s defense allowed the other team to retake the lead for the win. bill was the one who was conservative in the offensive game plan / play calling and due to his weak ego and insecurities always hired coordinators who were not the best in the game.
