Ryan Jensen Update: No Update

Is there a chance Pro Bowl center Ryan Jensen plays a week from tonight in the wild card round of the playoffs against the Cowboys? Bucs coach Todd Bowles won’t say.
In his day-after presser, Bowles was asked point blank what Jensen’s status is for the playoff opener at The Licht House. Bowles said he’s not budging from his stock answer.
“Status quo.”
Well, if that were accurate, Jensen never would have been placed in the 21-day activation window two weeks ago.
Last week, Jensen’s second week of the window, he wore pads at practice. If the Bucs didn’t want to offer the illusion (?) that Jensen was progressing, then they surely wouldn’t have had Jensen on the field during the short window where he could be photographed warming up.
Joe maintains if Jensen wasn’t close to being ready to play, the Bucs wouldn’t have bothered starting the clock on the chance to activate him.
Of course, Bowles still won’t open up about what exactly was wrong with Jensen’s knee in the first place. He injured it on the second day of training camp.
Robert Hainsey, who started all 17 games this season at center, suffered a hamstring injury yesterday, so that puts a spotlight on Jensen. Bowles said Hainsey’s injury is still being evaluated.

Bowles never offers much insight on injuries, and that is probably one of few things he does I agree with. Hopefully BOTH guys are ready to go Monday…

No news is good news as far as I’m concerned. Agree with Joe, in that he must be close or they wouldn’t have bothered. How sweet it would be if Jensen plays and plays well.

Bowles sinks ships as a result of offensive interference with play calling, lack of development of players, poor clock management, stubborn mindset, inability to motivate a team of men. Bowles season has nothing to do with lips. Loose lip sink ship is useless in regard to the Bucs. Lack of quality coaching on the other hand is sinking our ship.

All this smoke and mirrors about a guy who plays center is ludicrous at this point. Yes, he’s a very good player and a difference maker at his position. But us being cryptic about it didn’t exactly somehow help us during the season. And if he’s activated I don’t think Dallas is going to have a special session on how to deal with him. But what do I know?

Well, all I know is we need a center to play for us. Maybe 10 of us fans can fit into Jensen’s pants and give it our all? It would take 10 of us to equal 1 of him, LOL.

Yep bro Redeemer, no doubt, me too. I used to be a 240lb fire-breathing fullback, and now I’m a 220lb Arm-Chair Warrior with an ample rump. Getting old sucks, buddy.

As for Jensen, we still have the Case of the Missing Diagnosis. Still don’t know why nobody hired Nancy Drew, the Hardy Boys, or Scooby Doo to figure it out. Not even a single investigative journalist looking to make a name for themselves?? LOL.

Not much to say. Teams don’t have physical practices this late in the season. So there’s no great test for Jensen. If he was ready to test, a series or two in Atlanta would have been a great idea. Very hard to believe Jensen would be ready to play a full game against top competition in seven days. –Joe

Who I would really liike an update on is Shaq Barrett. At the moment he is the more important player.
The offense can make this line work, if the right plays come in at the right time. Hainsey has impressed me.
The defensive kids just don’t have it. Offenses have no fear of them.

T.J. Hooker himself couldn’t uncrack this walnut. We need a Jim Rockford, or my personal favorite, Kojak. Magnum liked the ladies a little too much. It took away from his detective work IMO.
Joe, I still don’t understand why they started the clock, if they weren’t planning on at least giving it a go. We still don’t even know what the injury was. He was injured on July 29. That’s 5 months and 12 days ago. D-Rok knows more about this than most anyone here. What’s your opinion?

Keep the opponent in the dark as much as possible.
Also, there’s no mystery as to why they haven’t disclosed the nature of the injury — they only release as much information as they’re required to. They’re not required to disclose, so they don’t. The player can say whatever they want. Jensen hasn’t publicly disclosed it either.
Jensen would be nice to have for a playoff game, but only if the knee is truly ready.

The other team doesn’t care if Jensen or Hainsey or someone else is playing – it’s not QB, and it doesn’t change the other teams gameplans. Those morons who think this is some sort of master plan to give the Bucs an edge are just dumb. It literally changes nothing for the Cowboys, they won’t do a single thing different if Jensen plays or doesn’t play. You cupcakes need to watch less movies.

The secrecy around Jensen’s injury and status is just plain goofy. Teams aren’t going to gameplan around a center. We get updates all the time if a receiver like Evans or Godwin get dinged up and defenses have to plan for those guys, but a center? Absurd. We got regular updates on Dak Prescott’s injury, surgery, rehab progress, etc. for example.
The only reason this usually happens is when a team wants to protect a player’s trade value but Jensen just re-signed and I can’t see the Bucs trading him but the way they’ve handled things all year, I guess anything is possible.
This could come from Jensen himself and the team is obliging his privacy wishes. I just hope we see him when he’s needed, which could very well be Monday night.

Rod, I can’t disagree with your comments. Whether Jensen plays or not changes nothing for the Cowboys, except maybe not to devote as much pressure up the middle, assuming of course Jensen is in game-shape.
It’s just the point of the whole thing, man. Why all the secrecy, why no diagnosis? I mean, the point to me is the secrecy isn’t “fair” to us fans who want to know how our team is doing. It was, and is, a disservice to us fans, IMO, and that’s been my issue.
Having said that, I do hope Jensen can play at a high level. All hands on-deck, it’s the playoffs, baby!!!

Rod, I agree as far as game planning goes. But Jensen is vastly superior, (if healthy) to Hainsey or Leverett. His communication skills alone would be a big boost. We know Dallas has a very good pass rush, especially against inferior lines like we have. 80% of Jensen is much better than what we’ve seen all season.

Just another thing that I don’t agree with this coaching staff on, but in this case, they are not alone. I understand not giving up gameplans or strategy, but this is an entertainment business. Coaches at the NFL level should be as forthcoming with information as much as possible that does not give a competitive advantage to an opponent.

Off-topic, but I’m almost done watching the mini-series Coach Prime with Neon Deion Sanders. Sanders is a COACH, man, and I’d run through brick walls for a coach like him. Great series to check out for fans of the game. I think Neon might be a better coach than he was a player…
Let’s hope our coaches have the team prepared and ready to roll for Monday nite!

I’m just saying how many coaches and front office people think. I have no idea if they get any edge by not disclosing whether Jensen will go on Monday night, and I don’t care, to be honest. I’m just saying, as a matter of practice, they give out as little information as possible… which is why the term “coachspeak” was invented.

I really don’t care what injuries the players get…I care about when how soon they can return, and that their way of life is not permanently affected by injury.
I have been saying all season that if the Bucs make it into the playoffs, they can win IF Jensen returns in the post season. I stand behind that now.
If he does not return…then I’m not certain we can win…but…he’ll be active no matter what.

It would be fun to see Jensen and Leverett on the field at the same time. 2 wild men to run behind!! Of course you have to wonder how effective Jensen can be having not played at all during camp or regular season. Probably if he plays, he plays left guard where Leverett has been.playing. So both of them won’t be on the field at the same time unless Hainsey’s hamstring forces him to play center. Should be interesting.

The Jensen secrecy has been ridiculous. We still haven’t gotten any real official word on his condition since “too much swelling to DIAGNOSE”.
It is unrealistic for Jensen to magically appear at 100%, game-tested and ready for a playoff game. He hasn’t played, and only started practicing. Even if he can play in some capacity, an OL needs time to work as a unit. What kind of cohesion does this patchwork OL have? None. How many of us would have laughed if we were told that your starting playoff line would consist of Goedeke, Molchon, Walton, Leverett?

I wouldn’t be surprised if Nick Leveritt didn’t play center come this Sunday. I don’t think Ryan Jensen wants to risk permanent injury to his still healing knee.

If he’s healthy, I’d certainly agree, but it’s asking a lot for a guy who hasn’t played in a year to come in and start a playoff game, at center, against one of the best interior rushers in the NFL in Parsons.
But my only issue is with the ‘master plan’ stuff, like the Bucs have some grand plan at work. If it was QB or even RB or WR or CB or TE, or just about any other position, I’d say, OK, it’s annoying not to give legit updates but there’s a reason behind it. But a center… again, I just don’t think it changes anything at all, in terms of giving the Bucs an advantage.

Putting Jensen in the 21 day window cost Bowles nothing and gave him some good PR. Plus it assured that Jensen would be a bigger morale boost to the team as a whole.
