All-Purpose Lenny
January 7th, 2023Only one Buccaneer ranks among the top-25 in the NFL this season when it comes to yards from scrimmage.
That’s a guy who has become a favorite punching bag for too many Bucs fans, Leonard “Lombardi Lenny” Fournette.
Fournette ranks tied for 23rd in the league in yards from scrimmage with 1,187 — 668 on the ground and 519 through the air. Among running backs, only Christian McCaffrey and Austin Ekeler have more receiving yards. Fournette’s 7.2 yards per catch is solid; his 3.5 yards per carry is not.
Last season, Fournette ranked 17th in the NFL with 1,266 yards.
Fournette is not the Pro Bowl back that a lot of fans demand, and rookie Rachaad White seems to have won the affection of a majority of hardcore Bucs fans, but Joe appreciates Playoff Lenny and his accomplishments after getting injured during a powerful opening night against Dallas.
Short yardage isn’t Lombardi Lenny’s forté, and his season can’t be labeled explosive, but Joe is not ready to hand the ball over to White and put Lenny on the bench. And Joe also wouldn’t bet against Lenny in the postseason.

Lenny has been on one leg since Dallas. Go watch the Cowboys game, and then watch any random clip from any game. He’s simply not as fast, quick, or powerful as he was. Due to an injury. But he’s still effective, can catch, and can block like a fullback/guard hybrid. Love Lenny. He’s the one they should rest.

I don’t get the hate for Lenny, but I really haven’t seen too much of it either. When you need a play or Brady doesn’t have anywhere to go Lenny has always stepped up fin it.
Bad thing is Lenny had a lot of hard miles on the bod and it’s starting to show a little. But when it all comes down to it and you need a play to save the season or keep the Bucs in the game….. I wouldn’t be surprised if Lenny isn’t top 3 go to guy for Brady.

I think it’s pretty notable, and don’t quote me exactly on the “exact” stats but after like 12-13 games or whatever it was, we were on pace for being one of the worst running teams in the HISTORY of football. That many games into the season is NOT a small sample size. Think about that for over 40 years the NFL seemed to run the ball play after play before later evolving into the passing NFL that is is now. You would think that in old school football there were DOZENS and DOZENS of horrendous football running teams that couldnt run the ball. What an accomplishment.
Yea but that’s NOT on Playoff Lenny’s back. Thats a COLLECTIVE system problem. That takes a monumental “group” effort to produce that ineptness. Starting with monumental coaching ineptness, multiple offensive line injuries etc. Those offensive line guys were patched together almost hourly some weeks and probably prioritizing “pass blocking” because let’s face it, who would want to be the guy remembered for ending the GOATS career with a missed assignment. Playoff Lenny is still a beast. It’s not his fault the incredibly archaic and conservative offensive play calling, specifically running plays, set him up for failure or at a minimum made his job an uphill battle. I don’t remember saying after a game, Playoff Lenny let us down today. Are you listening Mr. Leftwich and Mr. Bowles. The proof is it the tape. Week after week.

Playoff Preformanced Enhanced Lenny.

Resting Fournette makes sense, especially with a turf game. Start White and spell him with Vaughn. If Fournette is hurt get him ready for the playoffs.

Lenny is ok with the potential for a good game once in a while but mostly he’s just average.

I like white but it’s a diff game in the post season and I trust Lenny more

Is Gio over his vulvatic bruise?

All purpose yards, blocks, and I cannot remember the last time he coughed up the rock, so I guess that makes him average.

Lenny is a solid contributor for the Bucs. He has done pretty well with a makeshift line. Bucs have two very good backs. It’s the o-line that’s a problem.
