Panthers Lose Top Cornerback
December 28th, 2022When the dust settles on Sunday’s critical game against the Panthers at The Licht House, Joe doesn’t want to hear the loser complain about injuries.
Nearly every NFL team is broken down this time of year. That’s the league. You plan for it, you deal with it, and you don’t cry about it.
Joe brings this up today because the Panthers will be without their stud starting cornerback Jaycee Horn for Sunday’s game. His wrist is broken and he’s headed to surgery.
In Charlotte, it’s widely believed that Horn was screwed out of a Pro Bowl selection last week. Carolina’s 2021 first-round pick out of the University of South Carolina is a total stud, three picks this season and play of lockdown performances.
In response, Carolina scrambled to sign old man former All-Pro Josh Norman, who has been on the street all season. But he’s not expected to play much against the Bucs. He was a starter for the 49ers last season.
Joe remembers when the Bucs faced the Steelers in October when Pittsburgh was without T.J. Watt and several starting defensive backs. So Joe isn’t steaming with confidence just because Horn is out. However, his absence should make a significant difference.

A starting CB down for the other team? That means more runs this week.

On the mark with your injury comments. All teams deal with them – especially now. Bucs situation is muddled at the moment; but seem to have some good possibilities coming into play. Hope so.

The strategy will be to run the ball into the middle of the line.

Brady to New Orleans. Why wouldn’t He want to play for Sean Payton??? instead of Todd Bowles and and the play calling of Byron Leftwich??? New Orleans has all the talent they need to be successful. they just need a Head Coach and a great QB. It will be a shame to lose brady but no one should blame him after the year the Bucs have had and what their future may look like. Baker Mayfield looked all world against the Broncos and he will most likely be available (and he is younger and more mobile then Brady), if Brady decides to leave.

I watch other teams that block up d lineman and lbs and make the CBs make open field tackle on the HB. I have yet to see the Bucs force CBs to tackle. It’s run up the middle all game. Maybe the flat passes are our attempt to do it. Idk

Don’t know how many of you been following the Panthers these last 3 or 4 games. But they been running the ball right down Defenses throats. I mean brutally pile driving men off the line of scrimmage. I hope we ready.

You know every time ( or at least it seems like it) we talk about opposing back ups and key injuries we still struggle. Man I would love to see 4 quarters of solid football from the Bucs.

Kitties will jam the ball down The soft Buc rush D all afternoon.
December 28th, 2022 at 12:17 pm
Except our OC isn’t smart enough to exploit the other team’s weaknesses he just reads plays off a sheet.
December 28th, 2022 at 12:28 pm
I expect a lot of stacked boxes, and forcing darnold to throw. That means bowles won’t, and they’ll probably get gashed.
December 28th, 2022 at 12:29 pm
Bucs are ranked #5 I believe in run D and are also one of the top passing Ds in the game.
The D has not been a problem all season long. FACT
All we need is for our O to score TDs once they reach the Red Zone. Again, something we are ranked in the top of the league in.
Problem is, we don’t convert those trips into the RZ into TDs.
SO, it stands to reason, this team is not far off from being a top contender. Think about it, this season is not disappointing because of what we have done. Its disappointing because of what WE HAVE NOT DONE.
That could change in a heartbeat. AND it will not need to be sustainable for more than a handful of games once the Playoffs start.
December 28th, 2022 at 12:33 pm
Obviously this means we should run the ball to the left 60% of the snaps. #logic
December 28th, 2022 at 12:34 pm
My bad, that run D ranking was prior to the year starting.
Regardless, we currently sit as the #11 overall D. MORE THAN good enough for a Super Run, assuming our O can put the ball in the endzone.

That is incorrect. The Bucs’ defense is currently ranked #17 in the league against the run.

Man, you hope so, huh? I thought you were an educated Bucs fan. My wrong.

That’s great only if TB12 has time to throw.

That was funny! Zactly!

Uncle Urk, didn’t you know in Bowels eyes Lenny & White are the second coming of Earl Campbell and Walter Payton. Does anyone one know if Bucs nasty, bone crusher Dlineman Vea’s piggies are.ok?
December 28th, 2022 at 1:08 pm
@NEfan,
I used to sing that silly song to my son when he was a kid:
“This little piggie went to the market, this little piggie went home…”
LOL @ piggies.
Let’s HOPE Vea plays and gets all his piggies in a row.
December 28th, 2022 at 1:34 pm
The Bucs don’t throw deep successfully anymore so this is unfortunately inconsequential to the outcome. Now, if the Panthers punt returner were to be injured, that would be big news and a blow to them.
December 28th, 2022 at 2:06 pm
I hate to say it but it’s Sam Darnold, Bucs have tape on him. How many bad QB’s can this team lose to???
December 28th, 2022 at 2:45 pm
Whanda was shut down by a rookie a couple weeks ago but it’s consistently shut down by his coordinator so Carolina need not worry and regardless Bucs will try to establish the run to the point it’ of insanity
December 28th, 2022 at 2:57 pm
Soooo 3 catches for 38 yards for Mike Evans Sunday?
December 28th, 2022 at 3:06 pm
Too funny, the loss of Horn has firmed up Leftwurst’s plan to increase the rushing plays this weekend.
December 28th, 2022 at 3:47 pm
How many teams have we played who were missing their top cornerback? (Or top 3, like the Steelers?)
How has that worked out for us so far?
Pretty sure that Leftwich thinks opposing backup cornerbacks should not even be targeted / tested.
December 28th, 2022 at 10:39 pm
Brady obviously has an injury but I’m not gonna cry about till the end of time. McCollum start means a guaranteed L. Still a small college CB. The people that b!tch about flags after a L are the worst. Games over, you lost.
December 28th, 2022 at 11:23 pm
Todd’s Bowels may in fact be at the root of Leftwurst’s dysfunction. And hence Bucs’ suckage. Most of us have been blaming the guy who has trouble constructing a spoken sentence if you spotted him the sentence. It’s the articulate one who is actually the bigger Loser of the two.
Fire them both anyway.

This means more power run.
