Report: Josh Wells Is Done For The Season
December 26th, 2022A key backup swing tackle is done for the 2022 season.
Bucs tackle Josh Wells, who plays left and right tackle, suffered a knee injury last night and it appears it is major. Wells started for injured left tackle Donovan Smith and got carted to the locker room.
Per Ian Rapoport of NFL.com, Wells had a nasty injury that will sideline him until next season.
OT Josh Wells suffered a torn patellar tendon in Sunday’s win over Arizona and is out for the remainder of the season.
The thing about Wells is that he is versatile, which means a lot for a backup. And given the fact both right tackle Tristan Wirfs and Smith are battling injuries, this is a key loss if the Bucs are going to play meaningful games in January.
Last night was a good example. Wirfs was really struggling to stay on the field in the latter part of the overtime win. Had Wells and/or Smith been healthy, Wirfs likely would have been pulled.
Props to Wirfs for gutting it out.

Tough injury to come back from
The similar to achilles recovery

We’ll be drafting OTs. One to replace Smith (or WIrfs if he moves left to replace Smith), and one backup swing tackle.

Looked bad…almost can be considered a non contact injury of sorts. Top heavy fellas and the stress they put on their smaller ( proportionally speaking ) lower body can be extreme.
Ok Donovan…time to get right and regain your form from 2020-2021.

Didn’t Walton do a decent job subbing at LT?
December 26th, 2022 at 12:01 pm
Got any more good news for us?
December 26th, 2022 at 12:01 pm
Sorry to see Wells get hurt, and Russell Gage as well.

They definitely need to go out this offseason & sign a good OL as well as draft one maybe two. Either way they’re probably gonna have to definitely go out in the offseason & do something in FA & this is why they need to trade down in the draft instead of trading up. Get more picks & address more needs, too!

remember that Goedeke was a tackle in college is that possible now? sure all options are on the table
December 26th, 2022 at 12:20 pm
Wirfs was limping late in the game hopefully he will be ok.
December 26th, 2022 at 12:23 pm
I don’t think we’ll be in the playoffs long, even if we make it. We will get bounced in the first game. Anything else is a pipe dream.

No need to find new olinemen I guess according to Bowels and Licht Bucs are good.
December 26th, 2022 at 12:47 pm
Watt made probowl?? Wirf look like a rookie last night.
December 26th, 2022 at 12:57 pm
When I saw the kneecap wasn’t covering his joint anymore, I knew he was gone for the year. Wish I was wrong. And as far as what that means for his future? I have no idea.
December 26th, 2022 at 12:59 pm
Poor Brady. I don’t see how he gets anything accomplished with the line the way it is.
December 26th, 2022 at 1:00 pm
Are the Bucs FINALLY go get another lineman????
Naw, they good – they’ll just pull up someone from practice squad. SMH.

NEfan Says
“No need to find new olinemen I guess according to Bowels and Licht Bucs are good.”
I doubt there are any decent linemen out there to sign.
Marpet retiring was painful. Jensen injured was horrible. We have backups of backups starting. It’s an impossible situation.

Brady given Logan Mankins a call.🤣
December 26th, 2022 at 1:10 pm
Ask Cadillac Williams how coming back from that injury goes…
December 26th, 2022 at 1:17 pm
This is a pattern, not coincidence or bad luck.
This OL is the most poorly conditioned group.
Go Bucs.
December 26th, 2022 at 1:17 pm
Just when you think it can’t get any worse.
December 26th, 2022 at 1:25 pm
I don’t know what else people wanted to do?
we have had 5 offensive line injuries on the year that position has been decimated.
I don’t even want to think about what it would look like if we didn’t trade for Mason.
Let’s go through the list.
LT hurt backup LT hurt
pro bowl RG retired another RG hurt Rookie second roud pick bust Rookie UFA is starting calibre.
Pro Bowl Center went down in training camp. Backup second year is solid.
RG left in FA. Traded for a better one.
All pro RT hurt possible backup also hurt.
Not sure what you guys think they should have done. The fact they still look like an average line with all these injuries is a miracle.
December 26th, 2022 at 1:45 pm
It’s not their fault. They’re backups for a reason. Most times, you can get by with spot duty from second and third stringers, even for a couple games. When they’re asked to play multiple weeks, the deficiencies become apparent. Feel bad for wells.
December 26th, 2022 at 2:01 pm
Time to go max protect. Two tight ends and keep the rb back to block. No huddle vertical game. Let’s go!
December 26th, 2022 at 4:10 pm
I don’t suppose there’s any chance that Ali Marpet can put back on 50 pounds of muscle in 3 weeks.
December 26th, 2022 at 5:09 pm
Ali has a great life…plenty of money… no more sleep apnea… no more concussions. Why would he ever want to come back? My only beef is that Licht should have known he was retiring before we let Cappa walk out the door without trying harder to keep him here.

I knew it was bad. His knee looked unusually flat on the replay. Get well soon Wells.
