What Was Tristan Wirfs Up To Monday Night?

December 11th, 2022

Happy Bucs TV viewer.

You have probably seen the video Joe shot of Bucs All-Pro right tackle Tristan Wirfs fully stoked after his teammates came from behind scoring two touchdowns in the final 5:21 against the slimy Saints to win Monday night.

For those who haven’t, here you go.

So what was Wirfs up to? He was greeting teammates coming off the field. But wasn’t Wirfs on the field?

No, he said, the Bucs wouldn’t let him.

Wirfs was wearing a boot on his left foot and as a precaution, the Bucs forbade him from being on the sidelines. That was largely because wearing the boot big time limited Wirfs’ mobility in dodging players if a play comes to the sidelines.

So instead of watching the game on the bench, Wirfs watched in the locker room while getting rehabbed.

And Wirfs was anything but comfortable.

He confessed to Joe that when his ankle wasn’t being worked on, he was pacing up and down the locker room hollering and cussing with each play, just like a Bucs fan on the patio of Big Storm Brewing in Clearwater.

“Yeah, I was down in the locker room, pacing back and forth,” Wirfs said. “I had to go celebrate with them.”

After high-fiving his teammates as Wirfs met them coming off the field, Wirfs walked onto the field and bear-hugged Tom Brady, lifting him off his feet.”

When Joe asked Wirfs if there was a “little bit of cussing” while pacing and watching the game, Wirfs said, “Oh yeah, I was excited.”

Joe told Wirfs he looked like the happiest guy in the stadium.

“They were all probably real tired,” Wirfs said of his teammates, “I know that feeling.”

Wirfs is not listed as out for today’s game, but he’s doubtful and didn’t practice all week. Wirfs admitted on Wednesday his high sprained ankle was feeling a lot better but he wouldn’t put a timetable on how many more games he may miss. If any. That backs up what general manager Jason Licht last Sunday.

The man is on his way to becoming the best OLineman in Bucs history. Great player, great pick, and great teammate.

  2. David Says:

They need to find another one of him in the upcoming draft. What a fantastic pick he was.
How many tackles went before him?

    Get healthy big guy.

I’m so proud to be able to witness this kids career unfold. It was amazing to witness John lynch, Warren Sapp, Derrick Brooks, Ronde Barber, Mike Alstott,
Al Singleton, Buger McFarland, all the guys that we drafted and won superbowl’s
With I was there for every game and now this generation of offensive guys that we have. It’s making me sick that this coaching staff is holding our offense back.
    🤮

    Three went before him.

  6. Mike C Says:

He has a little while until he surpasses Paul Gruber as greatest Buc O-linemen, but he has one heck of a start.

It’s a shame Bowels didn’t extend his joy like Wirf did. It didn’t appear like any players went to him or vice versa. I did see one assistant coachhug him.

Exactly mike these newbies forget about the past players and just how good gruber was

He probably won’t admit it but during his rehab he was taking a nap like all of us were watching this putrid offense. The trainer woke him up at the five minute mark realizing, hey we have a chance to pull this thing off. Silly Buccaneers to think that, wait, we have Tom Brady under center. Why didn’t we use his mastery during to game? Simple, when you don’t know how to use something as valuable as the greatest quarterback you tend to rely on miracles. Enough said, hopefully we won’t have to pull that rabbit out again.

@David, three tackles went before him. There was a “big four” of tackles in that draft. The first three weren’t much in the NFL. Injuries and mediocre play. Wirfs has been a blessing.

Maybe that is the answer to turning this thing around. Make the players watch their own games! Kind of like forcing a poor chef to eat his own food or forcing any number of “music recording artists” to listen to their own “music”!

Before anyone deems Licht a Genius for drafting Tristan Wirfs, please try to remember that he fell to us!
IOW, we needed a tackle, and there he was, ripe for the taking.
Drafting him was a total no brainer.
Licht has had good O Line drafts, especially with Marpet and Cappa.
This Goedeke does not look like a great pick, so far.
