Cam Jordan Vs. Josh Wells
December 2nd, 2022This is not a matchup that will help Bucs fans sleep at night.
Since Tristan Wirfs was drafted in 2020, beastly slimy Saints defensive end Cam Jordan has been pretty much been neutered playing the Bucs.
Well, when Wirfs got hurt in overtime last week, the first thing Joe thought of was, “Oh no, Cam Jordan.”
Jordan missed his first game two weeks ago due to an injury. And it was an ugly injury. He fractured a bone in his eye socket, the orbital bone.
Jordan did play last week but was pretty much a non-factor against the 49ers. He had but one tackle, though it was a tackle for a loss.
Against Wells on Monday night, Joe figures Jordan will respond. Many Bucs fans know how Wells tried to replace Wirfs in the playoff game against the Rams. Before the Bucs made necessary adjustments in the first half — imagine that, adjustments on offense on the fly? — Wells was getting thoroughly worked over.
Bucs coach Todd Bowles tried to present a brave front yesterday on Wells tangling with Jordan.
“Josh is tough,” Bowles said. “He’s played in the game a long time. He’s not Tristan [Wirfs] obviously. He just has to make sure he does the things that he knows how to do and makes sure he plays his ballgame.
“He doesn’t have to try to be anybody else. He’s tough, he understands the game well, he understands the scheme and the gameplan. We expect him to step in and play well.”
Joe hopes — there’s that word again — failing Bucs offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich learned the hard way that when facing a next-level pass rusher, it might not be a dumb move to make sure your tackle has help.
Expecting Wells to contain Jordan alone is a recipe for disaster given that Tom Brady isn’t exactly mobile and isn’t exactly 22.
Joe suspects physical tight end Ko Kieft will get a lot of snaps Monday night and plant himself next to Wells.

Just ran the numbers, and if we keep 10 guys in protecting Brady we should be OK Monday night.

This is going to be bad. I hope I’m wrong, but I have not seen anything to give me confidence

Play Gabbert so Brady doesn’t get killed.

Jordah vs Wells is a vary scary thought…….and, I agree that the only solution is to give him help……and don’t wait until it’s obvious……do it right away….
This is a must win game….

NO 23 Bucs 3. Mark the tape. Why? Clueless Todd

Is Wells the only option? That Walton kid played pretty well against the Saints. Wells is lazy with bad technique. The only OL that Brady trusts right now is Shaq Mason. Donovan Smith lost his trust.

If Brady were a boxer adding last week’s play from Smith to the mix, this is the equivalent to Brady getting shots to the head, left, left, now right, right. Does anyone know the over/under on how many scoring drives Smith will kill due to stupid penalties? I got White 2 and Smith at 1.5

Wells will be limping by halftime.

Leftwich will counter by running up the middle. They’ll never see it coming!

I simply cannot expect to see anything different from our offensive “scheme” that we have seen since the beginning of the season. I expect us to look exactly like we have. No creativity in offense…trying to run up the middle or left side on 1st down…wide receiver screens to Godwin and the oh so familiar long pass down the sideline to Evans on 3rd and 2. Then the game ball goes to our punter Camarda. The thing I look forward to is hearing Tom Krazniki on the overtime show go off….ahhh such is a Buc’s life!

Walton was really good at the game week 2 against the Saints when Smith and Wells were injured. Never had a bad play. Wells has 3 or 4 plays every game that gets beaten badly. And yet this coaching stuff conitnues to put Wells instead of Walton.
Coaching is not only playcalling and gameplanning but also evaluate your players and put the best ones to play. I m not saying Walton is a great player but he had a really good game at the Superdome, give him the chance. He s shown better tape than Wells.

I’ll push back on that slightly. After the Steelers game, when everyone asked why this idiot Leftwich was running non-stop vs a team that was last vs the pass, the idiot Leftwich, in the next game, decided he’d show everyone and replaced the run with 47 wide receiver screens that would all get like 1 yard.
Then he proved his point, that he can’t call runs or passes, and just reverted back to his normally idiocy of, 1st down run up the middle, 2nd down screen, 3rd down run all go routes vs teams dropping 8 into coverage giving Brady no one to throw the ball to except for the TE or RB for 3 yards.

Over the last few yrs, The Saints Defense has had our Number. brady for the most part has not been able to figure them out. And they will apply that pressure. Its a given. Evans cannot get open against them. They lock him down. Bucs will have to play their best game of the season to win this one. I don’t see this happening. And I do hope they prove me wrong. We really need this win.
