Shaun King On Why Bucs Are Strong Super Bowl Contenders
November 23rd, 2022Longtime readers here know Joe believes former Bucs QB Shaun King is one of most reasoned and seasoned NFL and Bucs analysts on the planet.
King, one of four QBs ever to lead the Bucs to the NFC Championship game, now works for VSiN in Las Vegas after years as a USF football coach that followed a career in national and local media.
King grew up a Bucs fan in St. Petersburg and bleeds pewter and red. He pays close attention and sees a Bucs team that has had many things fall their way this season.
The NFC South gave the Bucs a chance to get their feet on the ground, King told WDAE radio, and that’s just one of the benefits 2023 has given them.
The demise of the Rams and Packers has left the Bucs without a scary potential playoff opponent, per King, because of the quarterback quality in the conference. “There’s no one close to Brady on the NFC side from an accomplishment standpoint. … Who’s [Brady] going to be competing against? Kirk Cousins, Jaelon Hurts? … So you gotta be optimistic if you’re a person who roots for the Bucs that we’ll take our chances.”
King continued: “So everything that they’ve needed to fall their way, you know, in a season where we’ve kind of been treading water a little bit trying to figure out what’s best for us. The pendulum for me is still pointed in the right direction.”
One of Joe’s favorite points King made was about the Bucs’ run defense — that while it’s not what it used to be, it’s very prepared and talented enough to stop a punishing ground game in the playoffs. And that’s what it likely would face in the form of the Giants, 49ers and Seahawks, among other teams.
Like Joe, King wants the Bucs to nail down the NFC South crown before heading to Atlanta for the season finale against the overachieving Falcons.

Yeah… he knows a lot about football but was wrong about Jameis

Let’s establish a run game that will let TB12 do what he does best, playaction.
For that to happen the O-line needs to gel & hopefully after what we saw in Germany
plus the bye they’ve begun to. Also I like White as the #1 back. He’s patient enough to
let the play develop & can turn it on when he needs to, plus Lenny’s power makes for a
great 1,2 punch. Cleveland’s run game will be a good test for the D-line. Which is a different
animal with Hicks playing. TB12 & company should hang at least 31 plus on em to
really be trending in the right direction. LFG BUC’S 🏈 The battle starts in the trenches.

I think King nailed it. Summed up the bucs fan base feelings perfectly. There is the expectation from the entire fan base that this team will win it all this year. Next year as well.Words like dynasty have been greatly used around town as well.

Philly has a BRUTAL front 4 and secondary, outside of the QB, they are a far superior team to the Bucs

The pendulum is not pointing in a direction at all.

Because of recent/pass successes…A ton of media & ex-NFL types see the Bucs for what they could be…But are totally disregarding the evidence of who they are this season. A team that looks like it will be damn lucky to finish 9-8 & squeak into the playoffs due to divisional tie-breaker rules.

Cowboys n 49ers made a number’s statement week 11. What are we gonna do, a Lovie Smith throwback, score 6 points n play defense. It’s time to put the pedal to the medal n not let up. Play every game like it’s win or go home. Dallas n 49ers OC are proving to the league what it takes to become a head coach. Leftwich,we don’t have time for three n outs then get serious once we’re behind with6 minutes left 4th quarter. Throw the kitchen sink at em, NOW!

How many burgers can King eat in one sitting? Twelve? Fourteen?

Evidently, Shaun missed the games where the Bucs lost to Mitchell Trubisky and TJ Brown.

I”M WITH YOU SHAUN …
1. Only W’s left on the schedule.
2. Bucs hit the playoffs hot just like 2020.
3. The NFC is soft AF. We’re in.
4. SB winner will be whoever is healthiest.
I like our chances. LFG!!!

Slight difference between medal and metal, and King was just along for the ride. He never led the Bucs anywhere. We lost to two one win teams. On any given Sunday still fits this team, Brady or no Brady. Hoping for 2020 2.0, but at this point it looks like a long shot.

King was good on his feet running in 1999 and 2000. He was a horrible QB, one of the most inaccurate throwers I’d seen.
A healthy Dilfer in the Rams NFCC game, and Bucs would have been playing in the SB.
What a sad commentary on Bucs quarterbacks…..when I’m wishing we could have had Dilfer.
Goedonkey.
