Still Last In Yards Per Carry

Joe is only writing this to illustrate how historically awful the Bucs’ running game was prior to Sunday’s game.
Even after Tampa Bay running backs hammered out 36 carries for 164 yards against Seattle, the Bucs remain last in the NFL in average yards per carry at 3.1.
Want perspective on that 3.1 yards-per-carry average? Back in 2018, when the Bucs were handing off primarily to Peyton Barber and Jacquizz Rodgers, the team ranked 31st in the NFL in yards per carry at 3.9.
The Bucs head to Cleveland next and Joe is eager to see how the Bucs’ run game handles itself against a poor Browns run defense.
The offensive line should be rested and firing off the ball, and the extra prep time for playcaller Byron Leftwich should lead to results.
If the Bucs can’t run the ball on Cleveland with the Browns paying all kind of attention to stopping healthy Mike Evans, Chris Godwin and Julio Jones, then Joe will wonder if the running success against Seattle was more fluke than engineering.

Cleveland has a great pass defense. Problem is, nobody needs to throw on them. Another really bad run D. Hopefully BL doesn’t outsmart himself. That may not be possible, just saying. Run the ball, play action, play good D. Bucs will be rested. Cleveland plays the bills tomorrow in Detroit.

I’ve got a good feeling about Brady coming back next year. Maybe I’m wrong. Especially with him starting to get done with everything with Gisele now & that definitely had alot to do with everything this year along with the injuries to the OL as well as the offense having to adjust to changes with Bowles & Leftwich changing some things around from how Arians was running some things on offense & with injuries to the team overall, too! That doesn’t help. Some people will think it’s his fault & that he’s playing horrible now but a bunch of it really isn’t his fault. Between a bunch of the OL being injured & it doesn’t help when the WRs are dropping it on him at times, too!

Thank God we didn’t have to play in Buffalo this week. It’s probably gonna take some C4 or a nuclear bomb to clean up that snow.

Tony, I think moving the game to Detroit was weak. They can’t handle snow in buffalo? They get like 10 feet on average every year. I for one, love Snow Football.

I just hope this last game wasn’t an aberration. Seattle defended the pass rather than the run to start the game, which allowed them to get gashed. They adjusted later, and those ground yards became a bit more difficult.
But hey, the Bucs won. Let’s see if they can rinse and repeat.

I agree that Seattle almost dared us to run on them, so we did!
I am hoping we stick with White more than Lenny against Cleveland.
Detroit is close to both Cleveland and Buffalo, in case people are not aware, and Buffalo plays Detroit in Detroit in 4 days, so can people see why the game was moved to Detroit, instead of Raymond James Stadium ?

I think they’ve found something in White. Don’t know Lenny’s stat with the hip. Maybe the line is rounding into shape? LF has been incredibly slow in the hole this year. A full MPH slower than last. I think the coaches Invision a platoon. some kind of thunder and lightning. Hope they get there

Well, the premise is a real softball.
“Lenny-up-the-middle-on-fiirst-down,” “with-every-set-of-downs,” “will-tend-to-lower-the-average-per-carry.”
The easy fix: don’t do that.
The problem: Byron doesn’t “get” that.
Before his tremendous breakout-game last week, Rachaad had a whole slew of first downs (and on a very limited number of plays at that), and we can probably believe that Brady appreciated that greatly.
So, Rachaad has actually been contributing a lot more than in just last week’s big game.
In fact, the only time it seems that Rachaad hasn’t had substantive gains, is when Byron calls for Rachaad-up-the-middle.

White can instinctively find a hole and accelerate.
Lenny doesn’t see the holes and hesitates. Once he does the sidestep move to right or left, he doesn’t have any forward burst.
Lenny should be used more as a 3rd down back. When he catches the ball with a little space he has the power to run over people.
I don’t see the same power with White but he has shiftiness and while he is making moves he continues to use his vision and make defenders miss.
Takeaway is White should be getting 60% of the carries, Lenny a mixtof 20/20% short passes and draw plays.

Thank you, Ed. That is Lenny in a nutshell.
This offense lacks a feature back with explosiveness.
White isn’t explosive. In fact, he’s slo-mo, long-striding, better in open space, better gadget than every down. That’s his style. Some of the same problems as Lenny, he can be taken down by quick defenders when he’s “patiently” “setting up blockers”.
Ke’ is the most explosive guy at the moment. That’s pretty sad.
