Was The Julio Jones TD The Breshad Perriman Play From Last Season’s Win Against Buffalo?
November 14th, 2022If this is true, this play is magic.
Joe forgot to ask this last night while navigating a sardine-like Bucs locker room. But props to Anthony Perrone of Pin Chasers for being an eagle eye and pointing this out.
Perrone Twittered Joe not long after Julio caught a Tom Brady pass moving left to right and swinging upfield to score a 31-yard touchdown. Here’s the video.
Perrone claimed that touchdown was the same play Breshad Perriman scored on in overtime against Buffalo last year. Joe thinks Perrone is onto something. Here is the video of Perriman’s score.
They sure do look an awful lot alike.
The only apparent difference is Brady looked like he checked down to Perriman. Jones was hit with the pass fairly quickly in the route. But check out the videos and see if you see what Perrone did.
It sure appears to be the same play. Only Jones was more of a primary receiver and Perriman was maybe the third option. But the result was the same. Touchdown.

……and it only took THE MASTERMIND 117 runs up the gut to set that play up.
That’s gold Jerry…..GOLD!

No it’s not the same play last year had to crossing route’s. This year everyone cleared out the coverage deep. Buffalo was in man the hawks where in zone.

Was the first thing that popped into my head the moment he caught it. I love mixing in horizontal routes like that. Can’t just go vertical every play. I will say though that we have had recent success throwing deep around those hash marks. Point being need to use the whole field. Too easy to shut us down when we only throw to sidelines

It was great watching Julio score on that play!
It is a good design play because our wide receivers take half the defense deep down the field, really clearing things out for Julio.
‘
Off topic a bit, but Ko Kieft was really blocking well all day. So well that he was getting into the Seattle Defenders heads.

Looked like the crossers were much deeper other than Julio. The Bills crossers (Evans & ?) were much shallower. Perriman & Julio’s routes were similar . I haven’t rewatched either play. That’s just what I remember.

The guy can still run. Loved that burst of acceleration right after he caught the ball.
November 14th, 2022 at 12:09 pm
I kinda remember perriman saying he ran the wrong route on that play so maybe they found it by accident lol.
November 14th, 2022 at 12:18 pm
Did you notice the fierce tackle Jones laid on the guy who intercepted Brady? This guy can play!
November 14th, 2022 at 12:20 pm
That exactly what I thought when they ran the play.
I owe an apology to my Bucs, they came out swinging yesterday and it was a beautiful sight.

Julio is getting into the end zone while he’s known for a lot of yards but few TDs. Maybe there’s something different with Julio as #3
November 14th, 2022 at 12:28 pm
It’s three/four verticals and a drag. That’s in every football playbook all the way down to flag football.
November 14th, 2022 at 12:33 pm
Similar speed and somewhat close in size, but I feel wayyyyy better about having a healthy Julio out there running that play. Like everyone
Perriman woulda probably bumbled it and dropped kicked that ball into the stands if it was this season.
November 14th, 2022 at 12:52 pm
Well Youngbuc, everyone was in zone except that one dude lol
November 14th, 2022 at 1:03 pm
Been asking for that play for 7 games now, it’s like the Bucs scrap the plays that work, but I was also impressed with the fake receiver screen
November 14th, 2022 at 1:08 pm
Different play same result.
November 14th, 2022 at 1:14 pm
Route concepts were the same, but Perriman ran his route against the Bills out of the 3 WR bunch off the ball on the left side of the formation. Jones was isolated left while the other 3 split WRs ran the vertical routes from the right side of the formation.

Not sure what Seattle was doing on that play. Almost looked like a busted coverage. They were in some kind of deep zone. Whatever the case, Julio still has the speed. keeping him healthy is another animal

Leftwich is a genius! Should we induct in the Ring of Honor ? 😀
November 14th, 2022 at 2:03 pm
Would make sense that a play that worked came from the Arians era, probably called by Brady.
Leftwich’s playball is run up the middle for 0 yards, WR screen for 0 yards, and run off tackle for 0 yards. Oh, and I forgot, when he wants to go deep, it’s a two yard out to Godwin.

Speaking of Perriman. That dude goes completely dark or weeks at a time. Then when he gets a target he usually drops it. 🙄
November 14th, 2022 at 3:24 pm
It’s the same play with a better understanding
November 14th, 2022 at 4:18 pm
Didn’t Perriman say he was supposed to pick for Mike Evans and he ran the wrong route.
November 14th, 2022 at 4:47 pm
Nope, not the same play, however, a crossing route is a crossing route, so the two plays were similar in that regard. Love seeing those long TDs off short crossers though. And like Netwalker said above, the burst of acceleration was awesome! He ran with purpose on that play. That needs to happen with this team on EVERY play instead of just every now and again. If it does, they’ll be unstoppable.

Periman’s TD was Mesh. Godwin’s Speed Out was taken away. That’s the 1st read. Gronk ran a seam to occupy the safety. 2nd & 3rd read was ME13 running the high Mesh and Perriman running the low Mesh. TB12 hit his 3rd read for a TD.
Julio’s TD was Trips Verts with the backside receiver tagged to run a shallow cross. Because the backside was tagged that was the 1st read and it went for a TD.

This game would have been 28-9 or 31-9 had Lenny continued to run vs attempting to throw. When the Bucs run with determination and effort, a game like yesterday can happen and still put up 30+ pts. Honestly I see 3 differences in why our running imbalanced worked yesterday…
1. White hits the creases with burst vs tiptoeing
2. Healthy Julio forces defenses to respect 11 personnel
3. OLine has gelled with Nick L.
Keep running as long as it translates into a fresh dominating D performance.

That’s definitely a great man beater play. Don’t think it would work so well against zone. I have a feeling we will be seeing that play again this year. Maybe more than once.
