Lavonte David Discusses Speaking At Players-Only Meeting And More

Bucs stud linebacker Lavonte David will have you know the Tom Brady you see on TV is not the Tom Brady players know.
Despite slamming Surfaces and cussing out his offensive linemen and wagging a finger at “embarrassing” loafing, Brady is all about teammates, David said.
David, who Joe believes has a resume to be considered for the Hall of Fame, had a video chat with Kay Adams on “Up and Adams,” seen on FanDuel TV. He was adamant that despite the public image, Brady is one of the most positive and team-first guys he’s known.
“Always encouraging,” David said of Brady. “He is never down. You see the stuff on the sidelines but after that, he is back to positive.”
Adams immediately pushed back on David and pointed out how Brady has killed several Surfaces and is known to unload on his offensive line. David said that’s not the real Brady.
“When he gets after people, shoot, I get after people too,” David said. “I just don’t get captured doing it.”

On a players-only meeting in which David was a keynote speaker:
“Kind of makes you feel like, messages were received, in a sense,” David said of how the team beat the Rams after his address. “I’m trying to keep everybody upbeat. Everybody positive. This thing is far from over.”
Adams also asked David if the team has a Super Bowl vibe. No, David said, because players know they have “dug themselves a hole.” So the only worry is the next game. “We have to focus on right now.”
David also said if the Bucs had time to explore Munich, he would want to ride shotgun with Vita Vea tearing through Munich’s famous beerhalls. And David would want to co-pilot with Playoff Lenny behind the wheel as Playoff Lenny tears up the Autobahn.
David claimed he had no idea he leads all active defenders in career solo tackles with 908. Joe will add that’s 21st on the all-time list, and David should take over the No. 20 spot Sunday when he should pass Hall of Fame safety Brian Dawkins.

It’s a shame he played so many years in the The Den of Depression. That may be the lost years that keep him from the Hall of Fame.

Thank you, Lavonte! Kay really tried baiting him into bashing Tom. The fact is that cameras are always on Tom. The networks are looking for his reactions on
the sidelines. They do it with other QBs, but not as much as Rodgers and Brady. I’ve always said we have no idea what’s happening behind the scenes. We make judgements on what we see publicity. Brady has always been known as being a great teammate. The dissonance about how Brady is hated by some fans and how he’s well liked by teammates and some players around the league is stark. I also reject Joe’s use of the phrase of pointing fingers. I think he was making a statement of the current status of the team. He wasn’t throwing his teammates under the bus.
When BA was reviewing film of Brady before signing him, he mentioned that the cameras only see Brady’s sidelines reactions and they don’t pick up the receivers admitting that they made a mistake. BA saw in Brady what others didn’t. Brady I think feels a debt of gratitude when it comes to BA. Sure, they’ve butt heads like any other QB and play caller, but I believe they had a good relationship. I promise you that Tom has been in BA’s ear about the offensive struggles. BA is also letting Tom have it about his poor play at times.

If you watch the interview it shows LVD bouncing up & down throughout…..you can’t see from the shoulders down….
With Kay Adams….you have to wonder what LVD was doing “down there”….

What concerns me is that they feel the need to have a players only meeting. Why isn’t our coaches getting the whole team together and calling people out, saying here’s why we failed and who failed, here’s what we need to do to scheme. You know from the guys in charge who call the shots. This is the problem when you don’t have a head coach like BA.
Stop defending Byron and Bowles, it falls on coaching when it happens over and over.
And why don’t we ever exploit their defensive weaknesses, its our crap offensive plan week in and week out. Its MADDENING.

Players only meetings have worked quite well for the Lightning.
Lots of ways to get through a season. Not one tried and true way to start a winning streak.

When I heard that Brady accused some Teammates of loafing, I was a bit concerned. After all, Brady has taken time off, attended weddings when he was supposed to be practicing, etc, etc, etc.
So, after all the crap he has pulled, he turns around and accuses his Teammates of loafing.

Can that “considered’ noize, Joes. LVD deserves to be in Canton right next to Brooks and Selmon. He’s my favorite Buc, and a class act both on and off the field. So, that’s what galvanized the D and team. LVD needs to do it every week.

Bowles just may not be cut out to be a head coach as much as some want him to be one. This team is not perfect by any means, but it should not be struggling like this. Lack of proven lead ship is killing this team right now.

Lots of love goes LVD’s way, but he’s more the quiet, by-example leader than the get-in-your-face type that Sapp was. Or even JPP. Or probably Jensen (not sure about his leadership style). Our problem IMO is that a team needs various types of leaders because some players respond better to one style than to some others.
Same with coaches. Some players needed BA to kick them in the butt & call them out (hello Lenny). Other players though get butt-hurt when they get chastised publicly (hello AB) & perform even worse (or just quit). Unfortunately for Todd Bowles, he’s not the get-in-your-face type that BA was, and he’ll always be compared to BA in that way.
Probably not unlike what Ray Perkins dealt with when he replaced Alabama’s legendary Bear Bryant after the 1982 season. He coached the Crimson Tide for four years from 1983 to 1986, compiling a record of 32–15–1. However, he went 5–6 in 1984, the school’s first losing season since 1957, the year before Bryant’s tenure began. Although he won three bowl games during his tenure, it was far short of what Alabama fans had come to expect. Increasing pressure from boosters and alumni at Alabama made Perkins receptive to a lucrative contract offer from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after the 1986 Alabama season. Perkins then served as head coach and general manager of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 1987 to 1990. We all remember how that turned out.

The defense did play better in the Rams game. Part of it was the Rams offense is terrible but you could see a little more intensity from the defense. They get Winfield back this week and will be almost full strength. They will have a tough task but the offense needs to keep the defense off the field also for this team to have success. If the punter is the MVP again we will lose.

Lavonte and Brady should call a coach’s only meeting and chew some dumb ass. Brady has to wonder after being with Bill B for so many years what the he’ll the Bucs coaches are doing. Bill would take away the other teams best offensive player and attack the other teams weakest players. I’m not sure our coaches worry about who we are playing. Same game plan every game. The Steeler game proved that.

@Chris. It was a walkthrough, not practice. It’s very different. Brady is the hardest worker in that building. I’m pretty sure he watches hours and hours of film. He’s never been accused of loafing, and his teammates know it. You’re projecting your own feelings onto the players. No one cares what you think. The people in that locker room are the only ones that count. Quit your whining about a missed walkthrough. You’re acting like Brady is absent from practices each week. Total hyperbole.
