Is More Touches For Rachaad White The Answer?
November 11th, 2022Joe is baffled by how an offense with so much talent can fall off the cliff so badly.
Teams with far worse offensive lines and fewer weapons than Tampa Bay produce better. It’s a sad state of affairs for the Bucs and for Bucs fans.
A former NFL quarterback turned BSPN talking head seems to have the solution. Last week Robert Griffin III took to Twitter and said the Bucs should diversify their offense.
Instead of having Playoff Lenny run up the middle for a one-yard loss, how about giving Rachaad White more touches, RGIII said on Twitter before the Bucs played the Rams.
Joe isn’t sure that’s the answer because last week White was more involved than he has ever been. He had eight rushes and was targeted three times in the passing game. And still the Bucs had to work harder than a coal miner to score 16 points. Sad!
Joe has no problem with the Bucs diversifying the offense, particularly the running game. But the results are pretty much the same: garbage. Joe guesses something much deeper is wrong with this offense than who is getting touches.

I havent been impressed with White in the limited action he’s seen this year…. average speed no power and dances too much in the hole.
Maybe more touches will get him a rythem but he is a RB drafted by Jason Licht so my confidence is low

It is easy to fix the offense. I’ll give you two options. Line the TE up on the left side and run right. Or, spread the defense out with 4WRs and again, run right. Do not run up the middle or to the left. Once you do that watch everything open up. Please get rid of the quick screen to Godwin and the run up the middle. Teams are all over it. I’m calling a pick 6 on the next quick screen to Godwin. Rams almost had one.

Rachaad White cannot do worse than what TD Lenny has done since the Dallas game unless he get a case of the yips and fumbles the ball away. Anyhow, predictable play calling will have teams stuffing the box and unless Byron changes the general play calling, we will be seeing a lot of 2nd and long situations.
Also: How about those Falcons????? Looks like 8 dash 9 could win this division, Mariota looked liked the guy that is worse than Winston tonight, took awhile but the ATL suddenly looks like a 6-11 team with him at qb and a D that can’t stop the run.

Rachaad should be # 1 back…he’s more shifty & seems to accelerate quicker

“So much talent”. First of all, the talent is overrated, in terms of both quality and quantity. Second, all the talent on earth is useless if that talent is “loafing”, poorly disciplined or handicapped by poor play calling. Coaching, not talent, is the key.
The “answer” is more creative playcalling from Leftwich, and barring that, replacing him. Good coaches can make lesser talent look great. Bucs don’t have good coaches.
Rachaad should be given BETTER touches, and Ke Vaughan should get both more and better touches. While lazy tip toe Lenny should be demoted. None of this fixes the fact that this bunch of RBs is mediocre.
The committee is missing a feature back with power, explosiveness and the ability to grind and carry an offense for entire games.
Bucs are unlike the Seahawks, who have always had smashmouth backs in abundance since the Marshawn Lynch era, and still do.

Maybe….just maybe our Oline is far worse than we think it is.
While it seems like that do a good job protecting Brady….the results just aren’t there……he seems very hurried and gets rid of the ball too fast many times….
Either that or our receivers just aren’t good enough to get open…..
The run blocking appears to be terrible.
A play action or two or twenty would be nice on first downs.

pass to set up the run……

I think we should start splitting Rachaad White out like a WR. We’re already rotating 3-4 guys for WR3 with Gage out, so why not add White to that with his size and skillset. White’s literally the same size as Godwin and our passing game thrives when we can attack the middle of the field, who better than a shift RB to help shoulder that load? Even if it weren’t for this game Sunday against Seattle, it’s something to consider and potentially install in the bye week. Anything to get our best talent on the field or improve our ability to score points, I’m all for it.

YES
Fournette has been underperforming and has failed on key short yardage situations.
White can get a yard and keep the possessions moving.
I don’t trust Leonard and his 3 yard a carry average isn’t worthy of more touches.
Let him sit on the bench and see if it makes him hungry again.

What about Otton? Seems to me, he’s a pretty good receiver down the middle and in the red zone.

Impossible to know until they actually have the balls to sit Self-Preservation Lenny down and let the other two running backs take their shot.
Defenses have no fear of Fournette. The early down work should be handled by the young legs and Fournette should handle 3rd downs.

I know at least Steve is mad we didn’t draft Peirce.

His runs have absolutely been more successful than Lenny, though that’s not saying much.
The problem is playcalling.

White is currently our most productive RB, so it seems like it would be a step in the right direction.
