   Are we devolving? Tonight will tell. Brooks has on his memory lane shirt. Brings me memories of the first season in old sombrero. The Bucs were ‘worse than terrible’ to quote McKay But we has so much fun. I would park on a side street and set up a tailgate party. Then head to the game and get a super cheap ticket in the parking lot. Usually everyone would leave in the 3rd quarter an head back to the tailgates. We never even expected a win. The next day Tom McKewen would write it up in his Morning After in the old Tampa Tribune. He always started his column with what he had for breakfast. Anyway I thought it might be interesting to post this prior to the probable calamity tonight.

   Well forgot to tell bout security. There was none. You would just give your ticket and head in to the Sombrero. No worries. We were in what they called the Black and Blue division…Bears. Packers, Lions, and Bucs.

   HC Grover, I remember those days. I didn’t find out about the Bucs until 1979. My beloved MIL (proud native Floridian from Ft. Myers) turned me on to them. It was instant karma: I loved them! I was brought up by my Dad to love NFL football. DC native here so I was weaned on the Washington whatevers and the NY Giants. We migrated down to central FL when NASA started. I recall seeing the 1979 playoff win against the Eagles, and the NFC Championship defeat against the LA Rams 9-0. Rams could not score a TD against the Lee Roy Selmon led defense, but Doug Williams could not score period. At least, he wasn’t a fossil like Brady. Man, I recall the Dark Ages in the 1980s. We went to the Bucs-Lions game when Barry Sanders was playing. It was a beautiful FL day. The score was 31-7, Lions at the half. SOP back then. So, we just bought beers and got a suntan until the game ended. I will be a devoted Bucs fan until the day I croak. BTW, I graduated from high school in 1970 in So. FL and saw every Fins home game right before Don Shula took over as HC and made history. 👍🏈

   This roster is not “too good” Ira.

   This team is entering “Dumpster Fire” territory…

   When I was a kid the stadium was a drive in theatre called 20th century and nearby was an amusement park Super Test amusement park. I do not wanna got too far off topic but thought it might be interesting to hear also there was a little golf course called Loch Raven where all us kids would play and a baseball field where the Tampa Tarpons played….lotta fun. So do not get too uptight if the Bucs go Bums. At least we have an NFL team.

   HC Grover: no, I have been a lifelong environmentalist and political activist. So, as far as ‘Flipper’ goes, anything to help preserve the maritime environs around this state which has been steadily destroyed by greed and short sightedness. BUT, back to football. Where are you from? I know what you are talking about, believe me. I hope our Bucs can win tonight, but I just don’t see it.

   I envy you. I remember living in Cocoa Beach, and the sand was clean and the sea critters!! Man’o’Wars, jellyfish, horseshoe crabs, coquinas. And that was washed up on shore. Those damned MOWs were killer. You did not want to get stung by them! That’s why I have always loved the Bucs original colors and Bucco Bruce. They are pure Floridian. Anywho, somehow, someway, I hope we win tonight. Weather is stormy over here in Orlando.
