Tom Brady Versus Mike Glennon

October 24th, 2022

How far has the Buccaneers offense fallen? Joe will start with a disturbing nugget ESPN pumped out during the second half of yesterday’s game.

“The Bucs have scored 1 touchdown in their last 22 drives,” Twittered NFL reporter Field Yates.

It got worse from there as the game continued and the Bucs failed on more drives in their blowout loss to the Panthers 21-3.

That 1-of-22 run (now worse) got in Joe’s head. So Joe went into research mode to see how then-rookie starting QB Mike Glennon fared on his final 22 drives while closing out the 2013 season throwing to the likes of Tiquan Underwood, Tim Wright and Vincent Jackson while handing off to Bobby Rainey.

It turns out Glennon engineered touchdown drives on 3 of his final 22 drives, which covered all series through two games, while he ate nine sacks behind an offensive line that was blown up the following offseason.

So, yes, if watching immobile Tom Brady lead the Bucs offense the last two weeks looks familiar, your brain is not playing tricks on you. It’s just a little worse than what you’ve seen before.

    How the mighty have fallen.

What’s really crazy is it seems like we’re regressing big-time. I thought we looked a lot better against Dallas and New Orleans.

Maybe teams have studied our game film and solved our basic schemes?

It’s gonna be so interesting to see who is on the team next year. If I was a star on the team and my contract was up, I’d want out immediately.

This ship is literally sinking before our eyes and it’ll probably take 10 plus years to rebuild it just so we can be a contender again.

    It’s over man.

  3. PhxBucsFan Says:

Joe – Thanks for piling on this morning. I’m still in utter disbelief with the way this team has played the last two weeks. I guess the closed door players meeting didn’t do the job for them.

  4. Kalind Says:

I think Logan Ryan being out hurts a lot more than people think.

But more importantly I think people misunderstand how leadership works. You have an unquestioned leader in Brady, and he’s out all the time, getting divorced, going to mid week weddings, taking vacations. You can’t expect people to fall in line behind a leader when the leader isn’t leading. Doesn’t work that way. And before you say “someone should stand up and take over.” Take over? From Brady? Listen to yourself. That’s the pitfall of an unquestionable leader. You take the ride for good or bad.

  6. Beej Says:

We can’t run the ball, everyone knows it, so they’re dropping more people into coverage

  7. Deeez NATZ Says:

Screw the bucs bee jive lol

  8. Ugotrobbed Says:

Seen this movie before! Funny how history repeats itself! Get ready for another lost decade! Sucks to be a Bucs fan!!

  9. PassingThru Says:

Been is correct, the LBs drop into coverage as they needn’t respect the run game, and teams are free to use lighter packages. Routes and timing are also compromised due to poor pass protection. It’s am eyesore to watch, just bad, bad football.

  10. PassingThru Says:

I’m of the opinion that football teams don’t show you what they are made of until Thanksgiving. But this team has an incredible lack of fight in them. To lose energy and willpower at the sight of one dropped pass on the first possession? Incredible.

  11. Bucfan Says:

The games during the 0-26 stretch were more entertaining than the product on the field this season!

ready to embrace the suck again, getting older now almost 60, wondering if i will ever see the bucs draft a true rookie franchise QB? no superstar trade, signing, or whatever but truly draft a winner, seen em all from spurrier to testeverde, we had a great one back in the day with williams, sadly way before his time, NFL was not big on black QB’s back then, johnson got a ring for us, really the defense did and of course brady, our recievers can not get seperation, and when they do can’t catch the ball, our tight ends are at best average, our O line started to suck when cappa left and marpet retired, then jensen got hurt, they never recovered, light refused to resign two stud D lineman in JPP and Suh, as a result we can’t stop the run, brady’s head is not in the game he has become a diva, and our coaching sucks, deja vu in bucland!

  13. Bucsfan13 Says:

@Joe. Could you explain how the mobile QBs with bad OLs have played poorly? I think Joe gets way too caught up in data. I don’t knock data, but I believe film study is much better. I know Joe isn’t studying film. I don’t expect him to. He’s no x‘s and o’s expert. I like to listen to guys like Kurt Warner and others break the game down. Seems so much more nuanced than spouting a bunch of numbers. I guess I’m old school like that. Once again, not saying numbers don’t serve their purpose. They do. By the way, numbers and film show the Bucs have an awful game. You don’t think that has any affect on this offense? Even Booger agrees that this team’s biggest issue is the lack of a run game.

@Passingthru is exactly right. They have zero respect for the run game. The fact that our lack of running game has totally been ignored is mind boggling. Where are those numbers? Teams play two high because we can’t run the ball and they want to take away the deep stuff. If a QB was washed, they wouldn’t play two high. They will just play Cover 1 and dare you to beat them deep.

Why does everything have to be so hard for this offense. From what I’ve read, NE fans and media are enjoying this train wreck. They never had respect for us, and mocked Brady for joining our “poverty franchise.”

Reminder: Mahomes looked like a mortal in the SB when he had an inferior line. Yes, the fleet of foot Mahomes struggled and made our D look like the 85 Bears. If Mahomes had a healthy line, there is no doubt he would’ve ate this team alive. The D played with a lead the whole game which allowed them to be front runners.

  14. Faspro Says:

Bucfan, totally agree. This team has never been this boring to watch.

    Sean Payton

  17. This team is dead last in rushing Says:

The best thing Brady can do is to finally admit he has a bad shoulder and finger and be done with the season. Get the damn stench of this incompetent franchise off him. Stop being a cash cow for this ownership and a continuing punching bag for fans who didn’t want him here in the first place. A fanbase who’s now become so whiny and entitled after years of irrelevance. The absolute nerve to accuse someone of not being all in when this whole franchise checked out for an entire decade.

  18. Robert Says:

I can’t remember a more boring and humiliating game. FBL, FTB

  19. LVMYBUCS Says:

Players don’t want to play for Bowles and Leftwitch

  20. Chuckstutz Says:

So much for recruiting! No one coming here no more.

Somebody call the shrinks for these guys.

Idea, since Arians is still on the payroll use him !!

  21. HC Grover Says:

Brady may decide to retire this Friday if nothing changes and the Bucs are blown out by the Ravens at home.

  22. Listnfrmafar Says:

GMFB talking about how predictable, basic and boring play calling is. Sh@t on TB12 all you want he is leading the NFC in passing by like 300yds and 6th overall. Evan’s dropped a 65 yarder right in his basket that goes against Brady’s stats. Miscommunication, quitting on routes, drops, falling down on routes, poor protection, can’t get 1 yd on two tries. Sure he had some bad throws, every QB does but to pin this game on him is a stretch. How does a make shift offense put up 180 yds on the ground and 21 points on this D? According the White they were probably just bored like their boring coach. Can’t wait to hear DR’s excuse for this debacle. C’mon, give us the positive D stats!!!

  23. Morgus the Magnificent Says:

And don’t EVEN try to tell me any more that this cratering has nothing to do with Brady’s 11 absence, Wednesdays off, and missing last week’s walk through. He can re-gain it, but for now, he’s lost the team.

    Tom Lazy

  25. stvcl Says:

Been a Bucs fan since I moved to Florida in 1987…I can’t remember a year that the team seems to care less. I have to think that it comes from that lack of intense commitment from the undisputed leader of the team that has been present throughout his career. The way he prepared every day in practice was important to set the standard for the rest of the team. Excused absences are still absences. You have to ask yourself, “If he doen’t care, why the heck should I?”

  26. SB~LV Says:

    Sean Payton!

  27. ClwJB Says:

    Dead team walking

  28. SB~LV Says:

Glazer’s are holding a losing lotto ticket and staring at it expecting the numbers to change!
    Sean Payton!

  29. HC Grover Says:

We are in a uniqe situation. The division is so bad that all 4 teams will end up with losing records and all four may lose the next few games. Now is the time for action by the owners. There is a window here to clean out the entire coaching staff and bring in new ones. Is Payton a possibility? If he is then Glazers should be on the phone this morning to him or any other available replacement for these Bums.

  30. Darin Says:

Glennon would be an improvement as an oc right now. Lefty had Brady looking like another number 12 from years past. Can’t tell if it’s Brady or dilfer out there. Oh wait yes I can Brady doesn’t throw as many picks. At least back then the staff could blame the losses on dilfers picks. Look in the mirror Byron don’t be who you be anymore

  31. SB~LV Says:

Time for BOLD LEADERSHIP… from the owners
    The Glazers

  32. SB~LV Says:

When is the headline going to say
    Coaching staff fired
This MALAISE has been going on all season

  33. Oddball Says:

    @This Team Is…

What, are you Brady’s mom or something? Relax man.

  34. SB~LV Says:

  35. Jack Sparrow Says:

Even the FOX sports analyst are saying that there seems to be a problem with coaching. It’snot just the X and O’s. It has something to do with rallying your team and the camera panned on the bucs sidelines and there you see Bowles and Leftwich like deer in a headlight.

  36. JVZ Says:

    Time for a major trade!

Trade the Buccaneers for the Eagles and solve all the football problems in Tampa Bay!🤣😂😄😀😆😂🤣😂🤣

  37. Ontario Mike Says:

A pocket passer who can’t rely on his pocket is doomed. Have to get a couple of trade deadline OL men who can help give TB12 time to set up and go thru his progressions. Would help if his receivers can get some separation but lack of a running game lets our opps drop more guys to cover vs the pass. Don’t get me started on our D. Soft coverage on the pass and can’t stop the run!

  38. Browsing from DC via MA Says:

A lot of good points here. Poor run game let’s the opposing D focus on stopping the pass. Also, poor effort from receivers allow them to focus on stopping our run (our very predictable run game).

So many problems. Start with Brady. When you think that after 7 games he would have fewer TDs (8) than times he’s been sacked (10) you have a problem. Lousy protection, poor effort from receivers, poor game plan, etc.

Yeah, that early Evans drop was inexcusable and would have been an easy TD, but he had another one later in the game where he just gave up on his deep route, jogging with the ball sailing over his head to where he should have been. Reminded me of the old (young) Randy Moss with the Vikings “taking plays off”. He had another drop later but he wasn’t the only one.

“Brady keeps throwing at Godwin’s knees”. Yeah. He’ll do that when a receiver doesn’t have good separation over the middle and another defender is approaching. Godwin needs to stop reaching down for the ball and go down to get it!!! Screw the YAC. Brady puts the ball where only you can get it AND by dropping down to GET THE DAMN BALL you’ll probably be avoiding a big collision. Sore hammy, knees whatever. Nothing should stop you from hitting the turf to grab a low pass. You want a completion then GO GET THE DAMN BALL!

Brady may not have a ton of time in the pocket, but he usually has enough for the receivers to GET TO THE STICKS ON THIRD DOWN and stop running 4 yard routes when you need 5. You ain’t Gronk. You’re not going to drag tacklers 10 yards after contact.

Another point made so often and I’m starting to see it is Coach Bowles’ lack of fire is contagious. Not only do they look like they don’t want to win, they look like they don’t even want to be there. You have to want to win on every play. Win your blocking assignment. Win your coverage. Win at your assignment whatever it is. Do your damn job. Destroy it. Kill it. Then swagger like you’re going to own that mf across from you the next time and all day. Swagger is contagious too and I see it nowhere on this team.

So much wasted talent, especially with the guys who have shiny new contracts. Bowles needs to start fining these clowns. Bench them. Ride their candy ass, millionaire butts in practice and meetings. Make them watch film of their lousy plays the same way you make your dog cower when they poop on the rug. Point to the screen and say “Did you do that? You’re a baaaad dog! Look at it! Baaaad!” Shame them.

But you can’t be a “player’s coach” and and embarrass “your guys” I guess.

There’s poop all over the field and nobody to blame or clean it up. Pitiful.
