Five Guys Making 12 Or 13 Bad Plays
October 19th, 2022Some Bucs fans were confused earlier today when Joe wrote about Todd Bowles saying offensive linemen graded reasonably well against the Steelers individually but collectively were subpar.
The Bucs had 66 offensive snaps on Sunday and, of course, perfection is the goal on every play. But what Bowles emphasized, along with offensive line coach Joe Gilbert on the Buccaneers Radio Network, is that different guys were failing on different plays versus on the same play.
So while, say, Tristan Wirfs had two bad plays out of 66, the other guys each had two or three. That’s how Gilbert’s math came up with 12 or 13 bad plays, which is bad news for an offensive line (20 percent) but individually decent.
Joe’s mind went to Donovan Smith getting beaten cleanly for a crushing sack in the second half as a good example. The other linemen were blocking well and Smith had been money nearly all season.
Bad beat, bad timing, bad news for the Bucs throughout the day.
Joe is glad the O-line gets a very stiff test on Sunday against Carolina.
The Panthers’ defensive front is likely the strength of the Panthers, so the Bucs won’t be able to get a false sense of confidence succeeding against a lesser group — if they succeed.

Speaking of OL, if you guys get a chance to investigate, JOE, there are a bunch of reports out there right now about the Bucs anticipating a possible Ryan Jensen return in November.
Man that would be MASSIVE if we could get Ryan Jensen back.
If that happens, maybe we would move Robert Hainsey over to LG.

Ironic that we had 66 snaps on Sunday.
Instead of 66 snaps with that OL performance…
I would rather just have #66 back.

Sure sounds like coaching if that many guys, including the defense, are making these mistakes. If it’s one or two guys, it’s easy to define, isolate, and correct.
When a group as a whole is under-performing, one usually looks to the leader of that group for solutions.
We can do it!
GO BUCS!!!

With three new starters, two of them basicaly rookies playing new positions bad O line play should be expected. What’s making matters worse the play calling isn’t helping the line out much. Running nowhere on first down, getting into 2nd, 3rd, and long doesn’t help. Pulling guards on shot yardage situations? Nothing Leftwich schemes helps his O line at all, just makes things worse. This is a complete failure from personal, scheme, and coaching.

Just heard Ryan Jensen might be back by early November. That would be absolutely huge…

Typical Bucs fan comment, Goedeke is causing everything to be F’ed up and Jill Tryon-Sissyinka is the best Buccaneer draft pick ever.”

Jeesh! Put Kieft and Fournette in the backfield for max protection and let Brady wing it all day.

I agree bob..they should go with 2 receivers sets..force more defenders in the box to create more passing lanes..Brady had been bery inaccurate

3’rd and long does suck, unless your The Steelers playing the Bucs. 3’rd and 16? 3’rd and 9? Piece of cake.

@PSL Bob: Ko Keif and Lenny in the backfield???
I love it!
Max protect … Or run … Or screen…. Love it!

Great if Jensen is back by November, but what shape will he be in?
Amazing how we have gotten zero information about his status since “too much swelling to diagnose”. A cover-up worthy of the Deep State.

This is stupid.
Might as well go get Raheem Morris.
